Cricket: Scott Boland ranked sixth best bowler in the world
He only plays one Test at a time but Scott Boland has vaulted into the top 10 on the ICC rankings on the back of his West Indian hat-trick. Boland, who took 3-2 in the final Test in Jamaica after being overlooked for the first two, is now the sixth ranked bowler in the world, ahead of man-of-the series Mitch Starc, who is 10th. The entire first-choice Australian attack all sit comfortably in the top 10, with captain Pat Cummins at three, Josh Hazlewood at four and spin star Nathan Lyon, who was left out for Boland in the West Indies, at number eight. It's a staggering feat for Boland, who has resigned himself to being a horses-for-courses selection, behind Cummins, Hazlewood and Starc despite performing whenever called upon. His bowling average of 16.53 puts him among the most effective in the game's history. Speaking after his brilliant turn in Jamaica, Boland said he's comfortable knowing his role was to do a job when called upon behind some of the best fast bowlers the game has ever seen. 'I'm playing with three of the best fast bowlers Australia has ever had, so I'm happy to be in behind them,' Boland said. 'It's going to extend all of our careers if we can all stay on the park and keep bowling really well, so I'm happy with that. 'I know I'm not going to play every game, so I can be really specific with my training, and then when I get to a Test match I'm going to play, I'm ready to go.' Confirmation of the brilliance of the Australian bowling attack comes through in the rankings. What a team - Josh Hazlewood, Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, and Scott Boland with the Frank Worrell Trophy. Picture: Supplied It's the first time since 1958 a team has had six bowlers ranked in the world's top 10. Lyon dropped a spot after being omitted to allow Boland to play in Jamaica, while Starc remained in 10th spot despite his haul of 6-9 in the second innings in his 100th Test, which took him past 400 career wickets.

West Indies subside to 27 all out as Mitchell Starc and Australia run riot
Mitchell Starc claimed his 400th Test wicket and team-mate Scott Boland took a hat-trick as Australia humiliated the West Indies in Kingston, Jamaica, bowling their hosts out for only 27 to complete a 3-0 series clean sweep. The home side's score was the lowest total the West Indies have ever mustered at this level. They only eclipsed the worst score ever recorded by a Test team — New Zealand's 26 against England in 1955 — by one run, courtesy of a misfield by Sam Konstas in the gully before Starc completed the rout. Advertisement The Australian left-armer ended with Test best figures of 6-9, taking three wickets in his first over to leave the home side 0-3 chasing 204 for victory and completing the quickest five-wicket haul in Test history in terms of balls delivered — 15. Starc, playing his 100th Test, passed the 400-wicket milestone when he trapped Mikyle Louis leg before wicket for four. Australia ended up winning what had, after three innings, been a relatively tight day-night Test match by an emphatic 176 runs even before the lights were turned on on the third day. 'It's been a fantastic series,' said Starc. 'We've seen some difficult batting conditions throughout, but it's been a good few days. Very enjoyable. I go home with a smile on my face. Our bowling attack has been pretty on the money throughout the series. Today it was like that again.' 'When you talk about 100 Tests, you talk about resilience, skill and fitness, but today he showed the real Mitchell Starc and what he can bring to a team,' said Australia's captain, Pat Cummins. 'Out of nowhere, he can tear an opposition apart and win a game for you. 'He does it consistently in any format, and I'm very lucky he's on our team.' Boland became the 10th Australian to claim a Test hat-trick by removing Justin Greaves, Shamar Joseph and Jomel Warrican with successive deliveries. 'He's amazing, isn't he,' added Starc. 'He would have played so many more Test matches in another team. But every time he comes in he's on the money, as you saw this week. He's never far from the perfect length. 'He got his opportunity this week and showed what a wonderful Test bowler he is.' Australia's win completed their 3-0 series win following the 159-run success in Bridgetown, Barbados and 133 runs in St George's, Grenada. (AP Photo/Ricardo Mazalan) KINGSTON, Jamaica (AP) — Mitchell Starc took six wickets for nine runs, surpassing 400 test wickets in his 100th test, and Scott Boland claimed a hat trick as Australia bowled out the West Indies for 27 to win the third test by 176 runs on Monday, The West Indies missed the lowest score in test cricket by one run. Advertisement Starc's first 15 balls delivered the fastest five-wicket haul in test history, and his 15th five-wicket bag in tests. The tall left-armer took a wicket with the first ball and three wickets in the first over of the West Indies innings at Sabina Park. Australia took only 14.3 overs to rout the home side in the first day-night test in Kingston and complete a 3-0 series sweep. While Starc missed a hat trick after dismissing Kevlon Anderson and Brandon King with consecutive deliveries, Boland completed his with the wickets of Justin Greaves, Shamar Joseph and Jomel Warrican. It was the 10th test hat trick by an Australian. Boland finished with three wickets for two runs. Advertisement The West Indies was out for its lowest test score, eclipsing the 47 against England on the same ground in 2004. At 11-6 in the sixth over it was in danger of inheriting the lowest score in test history. A misfield by Sam Konstas in the 14th over allowed the West Indies to take a single and reach 27, just avoiding New Zealand's 70-year-old record of 26 set against England. Earlier, Alzarri Joseph took 5-27 as the West Indies bowled out Australia for 121 in its second innings, leaving a chase of 204 runs for victory. Australia began the third day at 99-6 but lasted only eight more overs. Cameron Green, who battled hard on Day 2 to reach 42, was out to the first ball of the day and the rest of the Australia tail followed quickly. Advertisement When West Indies replied, Starc produced an outstanding display of fast bowling on a responsive pitch. He had opener John Campbell caught by substitute wicketkeeper Josh Inglis with his first ball of the second innings, compelling Campbell to play defensive at a ball which moved away. Inglis kept in place of Alex Carey, who was struck on the helmet by Alzarri Joseph on the second day. Starc then removed Anderson lbw, bowled King without scoring and Mikyle Lewis for 4, leaving the West Indies four wickets down for five runs. His fifth wicket was Shai Hope, trapped lbw by a ball that swung in at pace to hit the back pad. When Josh Hazlewood dismissed captain Roston Chase, caught by Inglis without scoring, the West Indies was 11-6. Taking out extras, the top six West Indies batters collectively scored only six runs. Advertisement The West Indies was 22-6 at the dinner break. Shortly after it passed 26, helped by two dropped catches in the slips by Sam Konstas off Starc. Boland's hat trick brought the end closer and Starc's sixth wicket finished the match inside three days. ___ AP rugby:

How would they cope without one of their talismanic leaders? Could Chelsea's Hampton handle the pressure?Clearly, they coped extremely well, and newly confirmed number one Hampton barely had to move a muscle. "Are you not entertained?," said former England goalkeeper Karen Bardsley on BBC Radio 5 Live."I'm running out of rubber on my eraser because I keep having to change [goalscoring] tally marks."It's been so fun to watch, with so much fluidity, and the enjoyment this England team has been playing with."Ex-England defender Lindsay Johnson described it as a "Friday night funfest" and even manager Sarina Wiegman celebrated more than usual in the so much attention on matters off the pitch over the past week, this was a performance that emphatically shut out the noise and lifted the was "back to business" as Wiegman claimed afterwards. 'Wonderful to see the girls with smiles on their faces' She had fielded questions regarding Earps' retirement on Thursday, admitting it had been a "hard" start to the was visibly emotional, reflecting on the good times they shared together and unwilling to discuss how frustrating the sudden departure of the 32-year-old may only 13 caps for Hampton prior to kick-off, and none for the other two goalkeepers in the squad, fears were raised about their when the team in front plays so well, it quickly becomes less of a concern. Hampton spent the majority of the second half stood still, watching on as her team-mates tried to add to their five first-half goals, managing one more through Chloe hero Beever-Jones gave some insight into Wiegman's talk before the Group A3 tie, saying. "She said before the game, 'it's a new kit, it's a new England, we have a new squad'."But it wasn't a new England, it was a "vintage" England, according to Bardsley, who was waxing lyrical by the time the fifth goal came in only the 33rd minute, sealing a treble for Bronze nodded in England's second, while Beth Mead joined in on the action and substitute Kelly added the finishing touch with the sixth in the 62nd minute."This is reminding me of vintage England, casting myself back to 2022," said Bardsley, who made 81 appearances for the Lionesses. She scores goals very easily and very well. She has such quick feet. She is also really tight on the ball, she played really relaxed."Team-mate Kelly said it was great to see Beever-Jones "firing" in an England shirt and Bardsley said she was a "pesky" forward to play for a starting role will be hard to come by though. Arsenal's Alessia Russo was watching from the bench, rested for this match after picking up a minor calf injury, while Chelsea's Lauren James has still to return from was impressive too on her first England game since knee surgery in November, while Mead was on the scoresheet and Kelly proved her worth off the bench."She really announced herself and put her case forward to Sarina Wiegman so she knows she is capable of starting at the Euros this summer," added Bardsley of Beever-Jones."Knowing there's that weapon, whether it's on the bench or from the start, is so lovely to know that she's in Sarina Wiegman's tool kit."Beever-Jones looked over to her family to celebrate and revealed the team had signed the match ball to take home whatever her role is at the Euros, she is ready to make an impact."In football it's never just a straight line. I couldn't have hoped for a better day."I wouldn't want anyone else for competition. Alessia [Russo] is an incredible player, I learn so much off her and the whole frontline.
