Human remains discovered off I20
HEFLIN — Possible human remains were discovered June 22 in a wooded area off Interstate 20 near mile marker 194, according to a news release from the Cleburne County Sheriff's Office. Deputies responded to a report and confirmed the discovery, securing the area and initiating a coordinated response with multiple agencies. While the circumstances surrounding the discovery are being examined, the news release states there is no belief of foul play involved at this time. Evidence was found that guided authorities to 'possibly identify the deceased.' Authorities are "working diligently and respectfully to positively determine the identity of the individual,' the release states. The Cleburne County Sheriff's Office expressed appreciation to Jacksonville State University's Center for Applied Forensics, Calhoun County Sheriff's Office, the Cleburne County Coroner's Office, and other assisting personnel for their professionalism. The office also thanked the individual who made the discovery and notified law enforcement. The news release concludes by stating, 'Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of the deceased.'

Cleanup begins for Greenwood, Big Spring after wind and hail damage
PERMIAN BASIN (KMID/KPEJ)- The small communities of Greenwood and Big Spring suffered some damage from hail and high winds over the weekend, now, some local businesses have come together to help clean up after the storms. One local business was the Permian Star Construction. They were out in the Greenwood community helping with boarding up windows, skylights, and fences. 'Trying to give back,' Eugene Heflin, of Permian Star Construction, said. 'The community has been good to us. I want to teach my son to give back to.' Heflin said he will be out helping as long as he needs to for his community. In Big Spring, the historic Hotel Settles was also damaged. Owners were too busy to interview with us as they were cleaning up glass and boarding up windows. Because of the extensive damages, the Mayor of the City of Big Spring, Robert Moore III issued a Declaration of Local Disaster and said he has been in contact with State officials. Also starting next week, a city-wide residential large item pick-up will take place for storm-related debris. The residents can bring in vegetation, fencing, roofing, siding, and building materials. Also, in Midland the Midland County Office of Emergency Management has asked residents to report any damage caused by the recent storms that produced straight line winds and hail. Man charged with murder following 2022 overdose death in Cheatham County
CHEATHAM COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — A Nashville man with a long criminal history is behind bars in Cheatham County in connection with a deadly overdose from more than two years ago. On Dec. 17, 2022, the Cheatham County Sheriff's Office received a call about an unresponsive man. Authorities said he had died from an overdose caused by methamphetamine cut with fentanyl. Detectives began collecting evidence and, over time, developed a suspect: Jerry Wayne Moore. However, finding enough evidence to charge Moore with murder would prove time-consuming More than 900 days later, on Thursday, June 5, the suspect was indicted on second-degree murder charges. According to Lt. Shannon Heflin with the Cheatham County Sheriff's Office, the Metro Nashville Police Department's Violent Crimes Division convinced Moore to surrender on what he believed was a failure to appear warrant. Body camera footage shows the 36-year-old after he arrived at the jail, where he learned he was in much bigger trouble. I don't know what I did,' Moore told deputies, adding that he doesn't even come to Cheatham County. 'Here it just says second-degree murder times two,' a deputy said. 'It don't tell me exact details on the warrant.' According to investigators, Moore supplied meth laced with fentanyl to the Cheatham County man who overdosed and died in December 2022. 'We did discover drugs on the scene that was hidden under a bathroom trash can,' Heflin said. The lieutenant reported the victim's girlfriend also overdosed from the same batch of drugs, but she was saved with Narcan and CPR. Authorities said the woman helped them turn up the investigative heat on Moore. According to Heflin, developing these cases typically takes a lot of time that includes forensics and lab analysis: 'Some of our most important evidence usually comes from pulling information off of cell phones or any other electronic devices.' Heflin said 2022 was the worst year for Cheatham County, which had 26 heroin and fentanyl fatalities, so law enforcement took an aggressive approach in trying to track down the dealers selling drugs to people that were resulting in deaths. The lieutenant said his investigators kept this case alive for almost three years for the victim's family: 'We also feel that we've got to get the family some closure, we've got to get them some answers, so it's important to us that we give them that closure and hold somebody accountable, and especially a drug dealer who's selling fentanyl because they know, these drug dealers know that what they're selling could potentially kill somebody.' News 2's Andy Cordan asked Heflin how the victim's family responded when they learned of the arrest. 'They were elated. They were happy. They thanked us for staying with the case. Greenville woman sentenced to 25 years for sex trafficking minor
GREENVILLE, S.C. (WSPA) – A Greenville woman has been sentenced to spend 25 years in federal prison after an investigation revealed her role in trafficking a 15-year-old girl. A press release from the United States Attorney District of South Carolina said True Heaven Heflin, 25, of Greenville, met the minor victim at a party over Christmas break in 2022. According to the release, Heflin took the victim to her residence and forced the teen 'to engage in sexual acts for money.' Heflin reportedly held the victim for over a week before they were able to escape. Heflin's 300 month prison sentence will be followed by lifetime, court-ordered supervision. Deputies arrest man accused of punching Dollar General clerk in mouth, knocking out teeth
The Brief Hillsborough County deputies have arrested Kyle Clark, 33, saying he punched a store clerk earlier this month. A surveillance camera inside Dollar General on 56th St. in the Temple Terrace area captured the punch on Feb. 6. The victim, Amber Heflin, said it would cost about $15,000 to fix the dental damage. TEMPLE TERRACE, Fla. - The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office says deputies have arrested the man accused of punching a clerk in the face at a dollar store, causing her to lose teeth. The backstory Amber Heflin told FOX 13 she was working at the Dollar General on 56th St. in the Temple Terrace area on Feb. 6 when a man who would show up at the store multiple times per day walked in. Heflin said the man tried buying stuff with a food stamp card that got declined, then got upset when the general manager asked him to leave. "And I mean, he just leaned in and punched me," Heflin told FOX 13's Ariel Plasencia earlier this month. "Like, I didn't even have a second to even think about the situation." The store's surveillance camera captured the punch, which knocked out three of Heflin's teeth and severely damaged a fourth – causing about $15,000 in damage, according to Heflin. HCSO says detectives later identified the suspect as Kyle Clark, 33, and arrested him on Tuesday. What's next Clark is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday afternoon to face charges connected to this case.
