'Bumrah has the most runs in an over for a batsman': SA great slams Jasprit Bumrah for lacking intent in Lord's chase

The resilience showed by Jasprit Bumrah with the bat received applause from fans and experts worldwide, but an odd criticism has also dropped. read more As wickets tumbled on Day 5 at Lord's, Team India plunged into a shell and runs had completely dried up. Ravindra Jadeja, who against all odds put on a fight, had adopted a safety-first approach, and held on to it till the end of the match. He managed to forge a little stand with Nitish Kumar Reddy after 7 wickets were down, but the partnership could not go beyond the 30-run mark. Reddy's dismissal brought Jasprit Bumrah to the crease, who in the past has showcased his mettle with the bat. However, Jadeja tried taking most of the strike and Bumrah seemingly had only one job to do, which was to defend. The pacer knew the importance of the wicket and kept negating with a straight bat. After carefully playing 53 deliveries, his patience finally ran out and he perished at the score of 5. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD Also Read | 'You set yourself up, don't you?': Jos Butler on how Washington Sundar's words fired up England at Lord's Herschelle Gibbs questions Bumrah The players in the dressing room, along with head coach Gautam Gambhir, applauded the effort put in by Bumrah. He received praise from many experts as well, but an odd criticism has also been raised. Former South African batter, Herschelle Gibbs has thrown flak at Bumrah for not displaying intent. As someone who has scored 29 runs in an over in a Test match, Bumrah can launch an onslaught with the bat. However, he remained cautious this time and did not throw his bat at anything, except one at which he hit a boundary off Jofra Archer. According to Giibs, Bumrah should have showcased an attacking intent. Came close in the end but lack of intent cost India the game . #INDvsEND — Herschelle Gibbs (@hershybru) July 14, 2025 While his post was not directed at Bumrah, the reply he gave to a user cleared out what he was referring. 'Bumrah has the most runs in an over for a batsman in test cricket.. .. where was that intent today?' Gibbs said while replying to a user. As India lost the game by a mere margin of 22 runs, in hindsight, many factors can be pointed out that could have changed the outcome, but that's all in the past and reality cannot be altered. Team India will have to brush aside the Lord's defeat and regroup immediately, as there's a Test series to be won. The 4th Test of the India vs England series will begin on July 23, 2025.

'Disrespect!: Herschelle Gibbs claps back at Temba Bavuma tweets

Retired cricketer Herschelle Gibbs has clapped back at calls for him to apologise to Proteas captain Temba Bavuma, based on his past criticism of the player. Bavuma led the national cricket team to a historic victory at the ICC World Test Championships over the weekend. Over the years, the squad's first test captain has repeatedly come under fire over his performances on the pitch and allegations that he was appointed as part of sporting racial quotas. Like many South Africans, Herschelle Gibbs congratulated the Proteas for their historic WTC win at Lords in London on Saturday, 15 June. He posted on his X account: 'Well done @ProteasMenCSA .. everything went right from the toss already .. enjoy the celebrations' While Herschelle did not single out a player in his post, many cricket fans claimed his post should have congratulated captain Temba Bavuma. In recent years, the outspoken retired cricketer has been vocal about his criticism of the national cricket team's performance, particularly that of Bavuma. X user @Chorky_Seane replied: 'You've dedicated the past few years to disrespecting Temba Bavuma, so I need the praise and respect to be as loud as the disrespect'. Herschelle cheekily responded: 'Who the f**k made you god!' Herschelle Gibbs clapped back at a cricket fan who called out his past criticism of Temba Bavuma. Image via X: @hershybru Another – @SikhoPhilani – posted about Herschelle Gibbs: 'He thinks we have forgotten how he is always happy when the team loses!', to which the 51-year-old responded in a slew of profanities. Herschelle Gibbs's criticism of Temba Bavuma has not gone unnoticed by cricket fans. In 2023, a sports enthusiast compared the two players, claiming that Bavuma had a better strike rate than the retired player. An annoyed Herschelle responded: 'Talk to me when he reaches 35 international 100s. Until then, take a permanent holiday on Twitter [now X]. Bye now.' In 2024, Hershelle controversially told an X user that Temba Bavuma 'shouldn't have been in the T20 squad to start off.' Earlier this year, Herschelle rubbished the Proteas captain again on his X account. 'Which Bavuma were you watching?' he asked another follower. Herschelle Gibbs – who has played alongside icons like Jonty Rhodes and the late Hansie Cronje – retired from playing in 2010. He was hailed for multiple records and achievements, including being one of only ten batsmen in ODI history to score hundreds in three consecutive innings. He has now taken up cricket coaching and presenting. In a post-match interview over the weekend, Temba Bavuma subtly responded to criticism of the team and his own appointment as captain, which has often been referred to as a 'quota pick.' He said: 'We have prepared hard for this, we have worked hard for this moment. We came here with a lot of belief but also with a lot of doubters, and we are happy that we were able to play well enough to get that type of result'. He continued: 'For us as a country, here's an opportunity for us, as divided as we are at times, to forget all of that, to rejoice in this moment and just be on.e' Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 021 1 .
