Skeletal remains found in home of late ex-Perak assemblyman

(Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA : Skeletal remains were found in the family home of former Pasir Bedamar assemblyman Wah Keng Jooi on Saturday, believed to be those of the late MCA man's youngest son. Hilir Perak police chief Bakri Zainal Abidin said a police report was lodged at about 2.25pm on Saturday by a 78-year-old man who had gone to the wooden house to visit his younger brother, who stayed there on his own. 'When he arrived at the house, he noticed a foul smell. He tried but failed to find his younger brother, and could not go upstairs as the wooden staircase had decayed,' he said, according to Sinar Harian. Bakri said an investigation led to the discovery of the skeletal remains. Also at the house was a pet dog, which was still alive, along with the victim's personal belongings. The remains were sent to Teluk Intan Hospital for an autopsy, and the case has been classified as sudden death. Wah was Pasir Bedamar's first assemblyman, serving in the post from 1959 to 1964.

Police hunt trio after machete-wielding robbery at Teluk Intan entertainment outlet
IPOH, June 21 — Police have mounted a manhunt for three male suspects involved in an armed robbery at an entertainment outlet along Jalan Changkat Jong, Teluk Intan, on June 15. Hilir Perak police chief ACP Dr Bakri Zainal Abidin said one of the suspects has been identified as a 37-year-old local man with a prior criminal record. 'This suspect has also been placed on the wanted list, and efforts to track down all three individuals are being intensified,' he said in a statement today. He added that the Forensic Unit from the Perak contingent police headquarters (IPK) visited the scene and collected several pieces of evidence, including bloodstains, two fingerprints, broken glass fragments, and closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage. Earlier, a 30-second video went viral on social media, showing three masked men exiting a Honda car and brandishing machetes at individuals at an entertainment outlet. Bakri said a police report on the incident was lodged at 1.02 am on June 15 at the Hilir Perak district police headquarters by a 42-year-old security guard employed at the premises. He said that the three suspects had stormed into the premises, damaged property, and fled with an iPhone 14 Pro belonging to an employee, along with RM2,000 in cash taken from the counter. He added that the suspects also injured two customers with the machetes and smashed the windows of four vehicles parked near the premises. Police have opened an investigation paper under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code for armed robbery and Section 427 of the Penal Code for mischief involving damage to public property. — Bernama

Last two FRU officers injured in Teluk Intan crash leave ICU
IPOH, May 31 — The last two members of the Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) who were warded at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Teluk Intan Hospital (HTI) were discharged and allowed to go home yesterday. Hilir Perak police chief ACP Dr Bakri Zainal Abidin said the last two patients who were at HTI, namely Sergeant Mazlan Mat, 50, and Corporal Mohd Izwan Ishak, 39, were discharged at about 6pm yesterday. 'Earlier two others, Corporal Haslizal Mohd Ali, 44, who was receiving treatment at HTI, was discharged on May 28, while Corporal Syed Isfan Syed Mohammad, 32, who was treated at Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital (HRPB), was discharged on Friday. 'All patients were discharged yesterday by 6pm. Everyone treated here has been allowed to leave. Thank you all for your support and assistance,' he said in a statement yesterday. Earlier, Bakri mentioned that the last four officers showed significant progress since their critical condition when the accident first occurred. On May 13, an accident at 8.50am claimed the lives of nine FRU personnel and injured nine others when their truck collided with a lorry loaded with gravel stones on Jalan Chikus–Sungai Lampam in Teluk Intan while they were returning to their base in Sungai Senam here. — Bernama

Last 4 FRU crash victims discharged
Hilir Perak police chief Bakri Zainal Abidin said that two FRU personnel were discharged today after 18 days of treatment at Teluk Intan Hospital. PETALING JAYA : The last four members of the Federal Reserve Unit who were receiving treatment following the crash involving their team's truck and a lorry on May 13 have been discharged from hospital. Hilir Perak police chief Bakri Zainal Abidin said that Mazlan Mat, 50, and Izwan Ishak, 39, were discharged today after 18 days of treatment at Teluk Intan Hospital. He added that Haslizal Ali, 44, was discharged on Thursday, while Syed Isfan Syed Mohammad, 32, who was receiving treatment in the intensive care unit of Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital in Ipoh, was discharged on Wednesday. 'With this development, all nine injured officers have now been discharged and are currently on medical leave as they recover,' Sinar Harian reported him saying. The five who were discharged earlier are Nizam Tarmizi, 38; Aniq Taufiq Rozi, 26; Harrisul Ikhsan Mahabudin, 39; Zulnaidi Zulkifli, 34; and Parih Ali, 44. The crash occurred when a lorry carrying gravel collided with the FRU truck transporting 18 personnel at Jalan Sungai Manik, Ipoh. Eight were killed at the scene, while another died while receiving treatment at Teluk Intan Hospital. Those who died were S Perumal, 44; Roslan Abdul Rahim, 46; Pozli Jaudin, 41; Nurit Pandak, 34; Amiruddin Zabri, 38; Hilmi Azlan, 38; Akmal Muhamad, 35; Damarrulan Abdul Latif, 33; and Akmal Wafi Annuar, 28. The driver of the lorry has claimed trial to nine charges of causing death by reckless driving.

Four FRU officers remain in ICU after Teluk Intan crash, condition improving, says police chief
KUALA LUMPUR, May 22 — Four members of the Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) remain in intensive care following a recent road accident, with three being treated at Teluk Intan Hospital and one at Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital (HRPB) in Ipoh. The officers currently receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Teluk Intan Hospital are Corporal Haslizal Mohd Ali, 44; Sergeant Mazlan Mat, 50; and Corporal Mohd Izwan Ishak, 39. Corporal Syed Isfan Syed Mohammad, 32, is being treated at the ICU in HRPB, Ipoh. Hilir Perak District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Bakri Zainal Abidin told Harian Metro that the most recent officer discharged from Teluk Intan Hospital was Sergeant Mohd Parih Ali, 44, at 6.30pm on Tuesday. 'As of this morning (Wednesday), three officers remain in the ICU at Teluk Intan Hospital, and one at HRPB. I pray for their full recovery. Doctors have reported positive developments. 'They are now conscious, stable, and breathing with oxygen support. This was described as a positive sign. Most of their injuries were caused by the impact of the accident. 'Full recovery may take time, but the Hilir Perak District Police Headquarters remains committed to ensuring the welfare of the victims' families. 'This is why we have been conducting regular hospital visits to meet with the families, identify their needs, and provide welfare support,' he reportedly said after attending a special assembly at the Hilir Perak District Police Headquarters, where he presented 75 certificates of appreciation to those involved in managing the incident. The first officer to be discharged was Corporal Nizam Tarmizi, 38, on the day of the incident, followed by Lance Corporal Muhammad Aniq Taufiq Rozi, 26, on May 14; Corporal Mohd Harrisul Ikhsan Mohd Mahabudin, 39, on May 16; and Corporal Mohammad Zulnaidi Muhammad Zulkifli, 34, on May 17. Bakri added that senior police leadership have also made visits to the victims and their families to offer moral support.
