Three men arrested for allegedly soliciting prostitution in Holyoke sting
HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – Three men were arrested Monday following a Holyoke police 'John' sting within the city. ATV rider arrested after crashing into Holyoke police cruiser The Holyoke Police Department states that on Monday, undercover law enforcement officers posed as prostitutes during a sting operation. This operation is an effort to address quality of life issues in Holyoke. It aims to deter men from soliciting prostitution and to combat the demand for commercial sexual exploitation. At 12:30 p.m., 53-year-old Luis Lopez-Rodriguez of Chicopee drove into the area where the operation was taking place and offered the undercover officer cash for a sexual act. Lopez-Rodriguez was placed under arrest on Elm Street near the intersection of Cabot Street. At around 2:30 p.m., 52-year-old Rufus Rushins of Chicopee also drove into the area and offered the officer cash for a sexual act. He was stopped and arrested near the intersection of Appleton and Chestnut Streets. At 4:55 p.m., 80-year-old Kazem Rahmani of Amherst was stopped near the intersection of Beech and Suffolk Streets and was also arrested for offering cash to an officer for a sexual act. All three men were charged with sexual conduct for a fee. Members of the Holyoke Police Detective Bureau, Holyoke Police Narcotics/Vice Unit, Massachusetts State Police Special Services Section HRVS and VCAT, along with Hampden County SPDU, MSP Gang Unit West, and Hampden County Sheriff's Department were involved in the operation. ATV rider arrested after crashing into Holyoke police cruiser
HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – A Holyoke man was arrested on Sunday after crashing his ATV into a police cruiser. Holyoke Community College to offer free course in AI essentials The Holyoke Police Department states that on Sunday at approximately 6:15 p.m., an officer was sent to Vernon Street for reports of the illegal and dangerous operation of off-highway vehicles (OHVs). The reports stated that individuals were riding without helmets, and juveniles were involved. Additional officers encountered a moped and three ATVs. An officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop on one of the ATV riders, 39-year-old Carlos Alvarez of Holyoke. After initially stopping, Alvarez took off at a high rate of speed. Another officer observed Alvarez on Main Street before he began to head back to the Vernon Street area. The officer parked his cruiser with his emergency lights on near the intersection of Main Street and Vernon Street. Alvarez crashed into the parked cruiser and was thrown from his ATV. He received minor injuries. Alvarez was arrested and the ATV was seized. Holyoke drug sweep: 10 arrested in multi-agency operation targeting open-air dealing
HOLYOKE ― A multi-agency operation led to 10 arrests and the recovery of heroin, fentanyl, cocaine and cash, Holyoke police announced. The sweep targeted open-air drug dealing in Soucy Park, Sargeant Street and Cabot Street in Holyoke, Holyoke Police Department said in a social media post on Friday. On Wednesday, officers saw Antoine Diaz, 44, of Agawam, in a suspected drug deal at Soucy Park. Diaz drove away, but police stopped his car and found seven vials of cocaine. Police arrested Diaz, and charged him with possession of a Class B drug, Holyoke police said. In the park, officers arrested Maria Gonzalez, 55, of Chicopee, and charged her with possession of a Class B Drug. Juan Carlos Llorens-DeJesus, 38, was arrested after police found him with 2 grams of crack cocaine, more than 2 grams of fentanyl, and cash, Holyoke police said. Police said they charged Llorens-DeJesus, of Holyoke, with distribution of Class A and Class B drugs. On Sargeant Street, officers saw Steven Devers, 36, of Indian Orchard, in suspected drug activity, according to the statement. Devers tried to flee and threw heroin mixed with fentanyl from a fourth floor, police said. Officers said they caught Devers and recovered about 100 bags of heroin mixed with fentanyl, 27 vials of cocaine and money. Devers is charged with distribution of a Class A drug, possession with the intent to distribute a Class A and B drug, and for the possession of a Class A and B drug, police said. Anthony Broden, 41, of West Springfield, also was arrested during the sweep on two active warrants. On Cabot Street, officers saw Omar Albira-Torres, 46, of Springfield, in suspected drug deals, according to the statement. Police arrested him and found about 7 grams of cocaine and crack cocaine, according to the Holyoke police, and he was charged with possession with the intent to distribute a Class B drug, possession of a Class B drug and on an arrest warrant. Luis Vazquez Jr., 50, of West Springfield, also was arrested for possessing crack cocaine, police said. Meanwhile, Pedro Rosado-Torres, 53, of Holyoke, and Jessica Dahlke, 40, of Belchertown, were arrested for outstanding warrants, Keenan said. Thomas Miklovich, 42, of Hadley, was charged with the possession of a class A drug and trespassing. The sweep was conducted by the Holyoke Police Narcotics Task Force, U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, Massachusetts State Police, Hampden District Attorney's SAFE Unit and the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms. Operation in Holyoke focused on ‘open-air drug dealing' nets 6 arrests
HOLYOKE — Police in Holyoke arrested six people Monday and seized a gun, over 75 grams of cocaine, more than 100 bags of heroin mixed with fentanyl and over $2600 in cash. The arrests happened in the areas of Appleton, Elm, Cabot and Sargent streets, according to the Holyoke Police Department's post on social media. The operation involved multiple agencies working together to address 'open-air drug dealing in the city of Holyoke,' the post says. Law enforcement officers involved in the effort came from the Holyoke Police narcotics task force, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, Massachusetts State Police Gang Unit West, Massachusetts State Police S.A.F.E. task force, and Hampden County District Attorney's narcotics task force. During the operation, officers saw Michael Rivera and Jose Torres making alleged drug transactions in the area of Elm and Appleton Streets, according to Holyoke Police. Police watched as Torres got into a car. They conducted mobile surveillance and when the vehicle stopped on Suffolk Street, they arrested Torres. At the same time officers stopped Torres, Holyoke Police said officers arrested Rivera and recovered ten bags of heroin. Near Cabot Street, police said they saw Nestor Quinones and Vieshaun Davis conducting 'alleged drug transactions.' Police said they stopped Teofilo Rosado 'after a suspected drug deal.' After police found cocaine, they arrested him. After Rosado's arrest, police then detained Davis and Quinones. Davis, police said, wore a cross-body bag that contained 59 grams of cocaine, more than $2000 in cash and a loaded firearm. 'The firearm was reportedly stolen out of Maine,' the post says. Meanwhile, Quinones possessed $611 and 15 grams of cocaine, police said, and so they arrested him. Police said they believed Raul Hernandez was involved in suspected drug dealing. He was detained, and officers recovered approximately 28 capsules of cocaine, and 90 bags of heroin mixed with fentanyl, the post says. Among the charges: Michael Rivera, 33, was charged with conspiracy to violate drug law, distribution of a class A drug, possession of a class B drug. Jose Torres, 30, was charged with conspiracy to violate drug law, distribution of a class A drug. Vieshaun Davis, 44, was charged with carrying a gun without a license, possession of a gun during a felony, cocaine trafficking, possession of ammunition without an FID card, carrying a dangerous weapon, possession of a class A drug, receiving stolen property. Nestor Quinones, 43, was charged with distribution of a class B drug, arrest warrant. Teofilo Rosado, 56, was charged with possession of a class B drug. Raul Hernandez, 44, was charged with distribution of a class A drug, possession of class A and B drugs, intent to distribute class A and B drugs. Driver crashes into JFK Memorial in Holyoke, police seek charges
HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – The Holyoke Police Department is seeking charges against a driver who crashed into the John F. Kennedy Memorial Plaza Sunday morning. Multi-car crash in Holyoke damages traffic light, parked cars Holyoke Police Chief Brian Keenan stated that at approximately 4:25 a.m. on Sunday, officers were called to the area of Suffolk Street and Sycamore Street for a single-vehicle crash. The crash resulted in significant damage to several monuments located at the Memorial Plaza. Police and fire crews were able to gain access to the vehicle and remove the driver and passenger from the car. Both occupants were administered Narcan and brought to the hospital to be evaluated for injuries. The driver, a 26-year-old man from Springfield, was issued a citation. Chief Keenan said that officers will be seeking a criminal complaint against him for OUI – Drugs and Wanton Destruction of Property. The Holyoke Department of Public Works has been contacted about the damage to the memorial. 22News will provide updates as more information becomes available.
