Christopher Lee, Cynthia Koh, Chantalle Ng among Star Awards 2025 winners, Entertainment News
Star Awards 2025, with its lavish guest list of over 200 celebrities, ended on a high note last night (July 6). From Best Actress to Favourite CP, here's the list of all the winners in each category. Performance Category Best Actor Christopher Lee went home with Best Actor for his role in the 2024 drama Kill Sera Sera. This marks his third Best Actor win, with his first being in 1997 where he broke a record for being the youngest actor to win a Star Award at age 26. Best Actress She was nominated for the category for the first time, and went home with a win. Best Actress went to Hong Kong star Jessica Hsuan for her role in Kill Sera Sera. Best Supporting Actor Chen Hanwei won Best Supporting Actor for the third time for his role in the 2024 drama Unforgivable. He took home the same award in 2015 and 2018. When AsiaOne asked him how he felt about this win, he said he suddenly thought of his mother who died July last year. "In the past, whenever I won an award, she was always the first person I would tell. But this year… I no longer have that chance. So today, I'm wearing her ring and her earrings. I hope she knows." He said some people may wonder why he won again and spoke his piece. "I just want to say this, I'm an actor. Acting is no longer just my profession. It's my life. It's everything to me. I've been doing this for over 30 years, and during that time, I've always been nurturing and guiding the younger generation. But acting is still my craft, and I have to give it my all," he said. Best Supporting Actress This year marks her sixth time being nominated in this category, and her first winning it. Cynthia Koh won Best Supporting Actress for her role in the drama Hope Afloat, and she told AsiaOne she had been waiting for this moment for a long time. "After so many years of returning empty-handed, I've felt disappointed and distraught previously. So to be able to get it this time round, I'm truly very happy," said the 51-year-old. "Honestly, perhaps due to the disappointment from previous years, yesterday I was able to fall asleep really quickly, and didn't really consider winning the award much, if at all." Cynthia last won a Top 10 Most Popular Female Artiste award in 2022. Best Rising Star Tyler Ten is this year's Best Rising Star. He won the award for his role in Unforgivable. The 29-year-old told AsiaOne he's thinking of buying a whole cake for himself to celebrate his achievement. "I love chocolate cake, and I've been starving myself so that I can look good on stage. I will also celebrate with my fans and treat them to a meal, because they have been working really hard these past few years and this is my first award so I would like to share [this win] with them," he said. Best Programme Host (Entertainment & Infotainment) Best Programme Host went to Christopher Lee for his cooking show Dishing with Chris Lee S2. He said he wants to film a third season not for the awards, but the audience: "When I go to wet markets, there are many elderly folks who ask me when season three will happen, so I know that audiences love this show. I'll work hard to secure and confirm the third season, because their love is most important." Young Talent Award Child actor Lincoln Ang won the Young Talent Award for Born to Shine. In Philadelphia, breast cancer survivors paddle toward wellness together with dragon boat racing
On the banks of the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia, a group of breast cancer survivors assembles for practice. "My life is better for it. It's an incredible community of people who have gone through some version of what I've been through," said Catherine Hagele, a breast cancer survivor and member of the Hope Afloat dragon boat racing team. After finding a lump in 2017 when she was 49, Hagele had surgery, chemo and radiation. "It was the hardest thing I've ever done," she said. She said a big part of her recovery was finding this dragon boat racing team. Paddling their way to wellness in unison, the team called Hope Afloat even created a special song for themselves. Linda Giovinco lost her mother and sister to breast cancer, and then she was diagnosed. She said the team saved her life. "It's increased my confidence, it's given me a sense of camaraderie," Giovinco said. "Having lost a sister, I got all these sisters." Hagele, who works at Penn Medicine, recently received a Penn CAREs grant to supply equipment and discounted memberships for the team. The team ranges in age from 30 to 85 and welcomes all breast cancer patients and survivors, no matter their ability. And a few have been selected to be part of Team USA at the World Dragon Boat Racing Championships in Germany in July. "They are having an inaugural breast cancer survivor division, and so I'm part of the first team," Hagele said. Beyond the support and friendships, research shows dragon boat racing can help reduce breast cancer complications.
