These are the 100 best food trucks in the US, per Yelp—and 25 are from the same state
We've come a long way since the days when food trucks only doled out greasy fries or soggy tacos out of its side door. Today, mobile eateries serve fare just as delicious as you'd find in a restaurant, and the lack of overhead means they can take creative risks while keeping prices low. Talented chefs can be "at the wheel" and food truck villages have found a sort of permanent impermanence in cities like Portland, Oregon. With all that in mind, a new Yelp round-up lists the 100 best food trucks in the country and, surprisingly, 25-percent of these on-the-go restos can be found in Hawaii. Yes, the Aloha State dominated the Yelp ranking, even claiming the No. 1 spot with Tony's Catch of Kapa'a, Hawaii—the easygoing vendor is a local favorite for its seared ahi tostadas, carne asada fries, mahi sandwiches, poke bowls and more. It's conveniently located near both the beach and a bike path, making it the perfect quick, no-frills meal that lets you keep surfing, swimming or biking. Outside of Hawaii, Austin, TX, Portland, OR and Los Angeles, CA revealed themselves to be fellow food-truck strongholds—it obviously helps to have a warm climate, with diners lining up al fresco for their food. The roundup also shows that Yelpers appreciated fusion foods that creatively merge cuisines to form a new mashup, like JoJo's Hot Chicken (No. 4 on the list), which serves finger-licking Nashville hot chicken but with a zesty Ethiopian flair. The number two spot, Jim's Smokehouse, is located in a small park in Austin and serves barbecued Angus brisket that has been smoked for 12 hours. Taco Libre on Kauai rounds out the top three, known for its signature dish the "Mexi Moco," which is inspired by Hawaii's traditional loco moco dish (rice layered with hamburger patties and egg that's smothered in a savory gravy), but done up with Mexican flair. Watch: Tennessee Titans rookies take on Nashville Hot Chicken challenge
Watch: Tennessee Titans rookies take on Nashville Hot Chicken challenge With the NFL being in the midst of the dead period between the offseason workout program and training camp, this is a time when rookies and new acquisitions can become familiar with their new cities. For the new faces of the Tennessee Titans, Nashville is an incredible city full of nightlife and delicious food, and of course, Nashville Hot Chicken. The origins of this tasty cuisine are shrouded in betrayal and revenge, yet the spicy delicacy has become famous worldwide and is now, like a meat and three, a must-have when visiting the city. Recently, Hattie B's in Nashville welcomed some new faces and hosted some rookies for a hot chicken challenge. Were these young players up for the challenge? Watch and see. Being cheered on by Cam Ward, Xavier Restrepo, and a chorus of other rookies, Femi Oladejo and David Gbenda took part in the battle, diving into the fiery mixture of peppers and seasoning. Oladejo ultimately pulled out the victory after eating 16 wings, but Gbenda held his own with a respectable 15. While not a traditional football activity, these rookies hanging out and growing together off the field is an excellent sign for the future of the Titans. Even in this hot chicken challenge, the competitive nature of this class comes across loud and clear, speaking volumes about the cultural change being undertaken by the organization this offseason.

Seattle's Vietnamese Coffee Boom Is Spreading to Wallingford
Coffeeholic House is absolutely addicted to opening new cafes. The local chain, which calls itself Seattle's first Vietnamese coffee shop, opened in March 2020 — the onset of the COVID pandemic — and became wildly popular on TikTok thanks to its colorful, photogenic drinks that are often topped with cold foam or cheese foam. Coffeeholic started in Columbia City but now has locations in Greenwood and Bellevue — and soon Wallingford, according to the Puget Sound Business Journal . The Journal reports that the new location, which will open sometime this summer, is at the bottom of the Chronicle apartment building on Wallingford Avenue near North 45th Street. It'll serve drinks like the ube-centric Purple Haze and the Tiramisu Egg Coffee, which comes garnished with a ladyfinger cookie. Those sorts of eye-catching, tastebud-tingling drinks are pretty common in Seattle thanks to the Vietnamese coffee boom that was launched in part by Coffeeholic. A stylish new Vietnamese cafe called Phe just opened on Capitol Hill; Aroom, a popular cafe in Fremont, is eyeing an expansion itself. You can also find fine examples of phin-brewed coffee concoctions at places like Pioneer Square sandwich shop Saigon Drip Cafe, or the swanky waterfront Bellevue restaurant Anchovies and Salt, or MCozy, a University Village–adjacent brunch spot from Coffeeholic owners Chien Dien and Tang Cao. If you like Vietnamese coffee, this is great. If you don't, get with the times! Now on to more news: Ramie is turning into a steakhouse for one night only Speaking of hot Vietnamese places, Capitol Hill's Ramie is putting on a wagyu-centric steak night on June 26. Called Bò & Béo, it's a collaboration with Preservation Meat Collective, which supplies many of Seattle's top restaurants. The a la carte menu includes cuts like T-bones, strip loins, and a limited quantity of 21-day dry-aged tomahawks, which at $180 are the most expensive thing on the menu. Smaller dishes include beef heart tartare, bo la lot (beef wrapped in betel leaves), and bap xao (sauteed corn). To book tickets (and reserve those limited-quantity cuts) go here. A cognac pairing is also available. A coffee... rave? That's right: MyBallard reports that there's a new pop-up bringing the worlds of house music and coffee together. It's called Garden Club, and it's hosting events on the last Saturday of every month from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and maybe at other, yet-to-be-announced times. You can sip specialty coffee while listening to a DJ set — what a way to spend a weekend morning! It's giving, as they say, Gen Z. Follow Garden Club on Instagram for updates and for future events. Dave's Hot Chicken is on a heater Finally, Dave's Hot Chicken fans rejoice: Your fave is being fruitful and multiplying. The Seattle Times reports that the Los Angeles–born, Drake-backed Nashville-style chicken chain is building a new restaurant in Redmond, with others in Tacoma, Puyallup and Federal Way to come in the next several months. Local franchise owner Sana Keshap originally planned to open 10 restaurants in Washington State, the Times writes, but after the success of the Capitol Hill Dave's (the first in the state), she may open up to 15. Fun nugget (pun intended) from the Times story: Keshap likes to make her restaurants 'feel homey' by doing things like offering dates to customers who are breaking their Ramadan fasts. McDonald's, Wendy's and other burger joints are leaning into chicken
Chicken: It's what's for dinner — even at major restaurant chains long known as temples to beef. The first permanent menu item McDonald's has rolled out in four years consists entirely of white meat. In introducing McCrispy Strips last month, the fast-food giant acknowledged that diners 'have made one thing clear: they want more chicken.' Wendy's launched a new Cajun-spiced chicken sandwich in April, the same month Taco Bell brought back chicken nuggets, declaring it wants to become the 'go-to destination for crispy chicken.' Fast-food brands long known for beef have been pushing chicken menu items recently. The poultry push comes amid fast-food operators' broader battle for customers who've been tightening their dining-out budgets. McDonald's last week reported its worst quarterly U.S. sales decline since the depths of the pandemic in 2020, with a 3.6% drop. Wendy's saw first-quarter global sales shrink by 1.1% and reduced its outlook for the year. Chipotle, which also flagged a slowdown, said its limited-time honey chicken offering helped prop up sales, which slid 0.4% for the quarter. Consumers have been demanding more chicken even as they've rebelled against menu price hikes during the past year, sending many restaurant chains racing to roll out value deals and find other ways to keep customers coming back. Chicken featured in nearly 40% of all Grubhub restaurant orders last year and was purchased almost three times as often as beef by grocery customers, the delivery company said in December. Visits to chicken chains swelled by 4.3% in the third quarter of 2024 from the same period a year earlier, according to the location analytics firm while quick-service and fast-casual traffic dipped by 1.3% and 2.4%, respectively. These trends play to the strengths of chicken-focused brands including Dave's Hot Chicken, Raising Cane's Chicken Fingers and Church's Texas Chicken, while putting pressure on burger-centric incumbents. Taco Bell said its limited-run chicken nuggets sold out nationwide in less than a week. 'The reason they're doing this, as much as anything else, is really about competitiveness,' Jonathan Maze, editor-in-chief of Restaurant Business magazine, said of fast-food chains' embrace of chicken. Consumers are seeing more stable prices for poultry than they are for many other animal proteins. Chicken costs were up just 1.3% in March from a year earlier, federal data shows, while pork rose 2.9% and beef and veal prices surged 8.6%. But Maze said the biggest factor may simply be a shift in diners' tastes — as fast-food brands themselves have acknowledged. Chicken at Wendy's 'consistently resonates with our fans, and we do not expect this momentum to slow down,' a spokesperson said. 'Our focus on chicken is more intensive than ever!'
