The Beach Boys Chart A Debut Rock Hit In America

The Beach Boys debut on Billboard's Hot Rock Songs and Hot Rock & Alternative Songs charts with 'God ... More Only Knows,' which also holds at No. 2 on the Rock Digital Song Sales list. Clockwise from left, the Beach Boys are Al Jardine, Mike Love, Brian Wilson, Dennis Wilson, and Carl Wilson. Since the beginning, the music of the Beach Boys has been classified as both pop and rock, depending on different sources and, of course, different songs. Because the group is made up of musicians playing instruments like guitar, bass, and drums, the outfit was originally labeled under the rock genre, but more recently, its output is often seen through the lens of pop. When it comes to the Billboard charts, the primary pop rankings are focused on radio play, while there are other lists under the rock and alternative categories that center on streaming activity, sales, and general consumption. It's on those tallies where the group earns a special honor this week. "God Only Knows" Debuts on Multiple Charts "God Only Knows" debuts on a pair of Billboard rankings this frame. The tune opens at No. 17 on the Hot Rock Songs chart and No. 21 on the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs tally. Both of those lists are general consumption rosters, as they blend sales, streams, and airplay to showcase what titles in those styles Americans are listening to. A First Rock Hit for the Beach Boys While the Beach Boys have been called a rock band for many years, at least in some circles, "God Only Knows" earns the group its first hit on both the Hot Rock Songs and Hot Rock & Alternative Songs charts. Those tallies didn't exist until long after the Beach Boys produced most of the biggest hits in the group's catalog. It's only now, after the passing of the mastermind behind the outfit, Brian Wilson, that the musicians land a debut placement on these rankings. 'Good Vibrations,' "Sloop John B" and "I Get Around" Sell Well The Beach Boys fare much better on another style-specific ranking, the Rock Digital Song Sales chart. On that tally, "God Only Knows" keeps at its No. 2 high point. At the same time, "Good Vibrations" and "Sloop John B" rise to new peaks after debuting just last frame. Those beloved cuts lift to Nos. 4 and 9, respectively. "I Get Around" earns the group a fifth career placement, as it opens at No. 8.

Billie Eilish Makes Chart History Again As Her Song Refuses To Fall

Billie Eilish's 'Birds of a Feather' earns a record-breaking thirty-eighth week at No. 1 on the Hot ... More Rock & Alternative Songs chart, and it now ranks as the second-longest leader. Broadcasted live on FOX. (Photo byfor iHeartRadio) Billie Eilish has been riding high on the incredible success of her single 'Birds of a Feather' for months now. The tune continues to be a major win across nearly every Billboard ranking it appears on. That statement is especially true on the company's rock and alternative tallies, where Eilish's Grammy-nominated cut proves unbeatable. The track makes history yet again — something that the title is used to doing — but this frame is particularly special. 'Birds of a Feather' is a non-mover at No. 1 on the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart. The track earns its thirty-eighth stay on the throne on Billboard's list of the most consumed tracks in the country that could be classified as some form of rock or alternative in terms of style. The cut has spent 49 weeks on the list, with all but 11 of them in first place. As Eilish rules once again, 'Birds of a Feather' breaks out of a tie and officially becomes the sole second-longest-running No. 1 of all time on the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart. Last time around, it was matched for that position in the history books with 'Heat Waves' by Glass Animals. For a short time, both smashes had managed 37 turns at No. 1. But now, 'Heat Waves' is forced down to third place on this all-time roster. It will be months before Eilish comes even close to matching the all-time record Panic! at the Disco established — a high that may never be matched or beaten. The multi-genre band's 'High Hopes' collected an amazing 65 weeks at No. 1 on the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs tally during its run. That's one of the most impressive showings on any Billboard list, regardless of how they're compiled or what style they focus on. 'Birds of a Feather' doesn't only rule the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart this week. It also leads both the Hot Alternative Songs and Alternative Streaming Songs rankings, keeping at No. 1 on all three lists. The cut is so popular, it manages to live inside the top 10 on another half-dozen Billboard rosters, including the all-genre Radio Songs tally as well as both of the company's Billboard Global charts.

Twenty One Pilots Turn A Decade-Old Demo Into A Smash

Twenty One Pilots return to multiple Billboard charts this week – and somewhat surprisingly, it's not because of a brand new single or a full album campaign. Instead, the Grammy-winning duo scores an unexpected hit thanks to a viral moment that breathes new life into one of the band's older tunes. This week, a decade-old track becomes bigger than ever, becoming an unlikely hit long after fans first got to hear the tune. Earlier this month, Twenty One Pilots shared a slightly altered demo version of "Doubt," a track that first appeared on the group's massive album Blurryface. The updated release came after the tune suddenly went viral on TikTok, earning hundreds of thousands of impressions in a short span of time. To honor the song's fan-driven resurgence — and feed into the excitement — the band released a previously unfamiliar take on the already beloved cut. Now, the title has become a proper hit in America. Thanks to all that interest, "Doubt" debuts on three Billboard rankings this frame. The cut makes it onto both the Billboard Global 200 and Billboard Global Excl. U.S., opening at Nos. 152 and 157, respectively. The former list ranks the most-consumed tracks in the world, while the latter tallies the most popular songs across the globe, excluding U.S. sales and streaming data. Stateside, "Doubt" also arrives for the first time on one ranking. This week, it debuts at No. 20 on the Hot Alternative Songs chart, giving Twenty One Pilots another win. This new start marks the fifteenth time the band has landed a tune on the list, which measures the most-consumed alternative-only cuts throughout the country. Simultaneously, "Doubt" reenters both the Hot Rock Songs and Hot Rock & Alternative Songs tallies. The track has already spent 21 frames on each of those lists, but this frame, it reaches a new all-time highest placement on both of them. 'Doubt' hits No. 17 on the Hot Rock Songs tally and No. 23 on the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs ranking, which blends together all things rock and alternative. For longtime fans, "Doubt" is instantly recognizable as a deep cut from Blurryface, the 2015 full-length that turned Twenty One Pilots into household names. That album not only reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200, it also produced a string of major hits. Both "Stressed Out" and "Ride" rose into the top five on the Hot 100 and helped usher in a new era where alternative rock acts could once again find serious success on mainstream charts.

Billie Eilish Ties A Very Important Record — But Can She Go All The Way?

Billie Eilish's 'Birds of a Feather' rules the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart for a ... More thirty-seventh week, tying the second-longest reign in the ranking's history. HOLLYWOOD, CALIFORNIA - MARCH 10: Billie Eilish attends the 96th Annual Academy Awards on March 10, 2024 in Hollywood, California. (Photo by) Billie Eilish's 'Birds of a Feather' has become one of the most successful rock and alternative singles in recent memory, at least in terms of how long it's held on inside the upper reaches of a number of charts. The Grammy-nominated smash has been holding court on a number of Billboard rankings for nearly a year, and while it's still a win, it has already solidified its place in history. This frame, the cut manages a very impressive feat once again, as Eilish extends a reign that's already pushed the title into rarefied territory. 'Birds of a Feather' is steady at No. 1 on the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart once more. That's a position it has rarely relinquished since it debuted. The track has now ruled the tally for 37 weeks. For context, it's only spent 48 total frames on the ranking. The tune has been one of the most consumed rock and alternative releases in the U.S. for months on end. Whether via streaming, sales, or airplay, 'Birds of a Feather' continues to perform like a brand new single, even though it's been charting for close to a year. 'Birds of a Feather' is now tied as the second-longest-running No. 1 in the history of the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart. It sits alongside 'Heat Waves' by Glass Animals, which also managed 37 weeks in the penthouse not long ago. That track went on to become a defining hit of its own era, and one that helped the group become breakout stars, if only for a time. At this point, 'Birds of a Feather' looks like it's ready to keep going, and there's a decent chance it might rule for several more weeks…but whether it can actually match the all-time record is a little harder to predict. Panic! At the Disco's 'High Hopes' is still the song to beat, with a staggering 65-week reign. That remains one of the longest runs at No. 1 on any Billboard chart. Eilish's current total only covers a bit more than half of that chart-topping span – still, she's closer than almost anyone else has ever gotten. This week, 'Birds of a Feather' isn't just ruling the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart, it's also leading two other Billboard tallies. The composition is in charge of both the Hot Alternative Songs and the Alternative Streaming Songs rankings again. Beyond those three No. 1s, the cut also remains inside the top 10 on six additional Billboard lists. The single is just a few weeks away from celebrating a full year on each of those rankings, and it will almost certainly reach that milestone with ease…and then keep on charting.

Jack Black Charts His First Solo Hit Song, Thanks To ‘A Minecraft Movie'

A Minecraft Movie's box office dominance continues, and now, it's charting a musical win as well. The animated blockbuster, which is already one of the most successful releases of the year, appears on the Billboard rankings, as both the film's standout single and its soundtrack have become commercial successes on their own. Jack Black is one of the driving forces behind A Minecraft Movie's appeal, and now he's also one of its biggest musical success stories. The actor and musician earns a pair of Billboard chart appearances this week thanks to 'Steve's Lava Chicken,' a song featured prominently throughout the film. The quirky cut opens at No. 21 on the Hot Rock Songs chart and also starts at No. 27 on the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs list — two of Billboard's genre-specific rankings that highlight the most popular and most-consumed rock tunes in the U.S. The track marks Black's first appearance on either of the rosters as a soloist. While he's best known musically as one-half of Tenacious D, this is the first time he's scored a hit under his own name. Tenacious D has made it to both rankings before, including with the band's 2023 cover of Britney Spears's '...Baby One More Time' and the 2023 release 'Video Games,' both of which briefly appeared on the rock lists. 'Steve's Lava Chicken' earns one of the highest debuts this week on both the Hot Rock Songs and Hot Rock & Alternative Songs charts. On both tallies, it starts as the fourth-highest-ranking new entrant. It trails only 'Caramel' by Sleep Token and a pair of tracks from The Marías, 'Back to Me' and 'Nobody Knew.' Beyond just the single, A Minecraft Movie's full-length soundtrack is also performing well. This frame, the album debuts at No. 16 on Billboard's Soundtracks chart. It is the only new arrival on that list this week. In the coming weeks, it could break into the top 10, especially as 'Steve's Lava Chicken' takes off. The film has now spent back-to-back weekends as the No. 1 title in the U.S. and has grossed $570 million globally — a number that will almost certainly continue to grow by many millions before the feature finishes its theatrical run.
