The Beach Boys Chart A Debut Rock Hit In America
The Beach Boys debut on Billboard's Hot Rock Songs and Hot Rock & Alternative Songs charts with 'God ... More Only Knows,' which also holds at No. 2 on the Rock Digital Song Sales list. Clockwise from left, the Beach Boys are Al Jardine, Mike Love, Brian Wilson, Dennis Wilson, and Carl Wilson.
Since the beginning, the music of the Beach Boys has been classified as both pop and rock, depending on different sources and, of course, different songs. Because the group is made up of musicians playing instruments like guitar, bass, and drums, the outfit was originally labeled under the rock genre, but more recently, its output is often seen through the lens of pop.
When it comes to the Billboard charts, the primary pop rankings are focused on radio play, while there are other lists under the rock and alternative categories that center on streaming activity, sales, and general consumption. It's on those tallies where the group earns a special honor this week.
"God Only Knows" Debuts on Multiple Charts
"God Only Knows" debuts on a pair of Billboard rankings this frame. The tune opens at No. 17 on the Hot Rock Songs chart and No. 21 on the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs tally. Both of those lists are general consumption rosters, as they blend sales, streams, and airplay to showcase what titles in those styles Americans are listening to.
A First Rock Hit for the Beach Boys
While the Beach Boys have been called a rock band for many years, at least in some circles, "God Only Knows" earns the group its first hit on both the Hot Rock Songs and Hot Rock & Alternative Songs charts. Those tallies didn't exist until long after the Beach Boys produced most of the biggest hits in the group's catalog. It's only now, after the passing of the mastermind behind the outfit, Brian Wilson, that the musicians land a debut placement on these rankings.
'Good Vibrations,' "Sloop John B" and "I Get Around" Sell Well
The Beach Boys fare much better on another style-specific ranking, the Rock Digital Song Sales chart. On that tally, "God Only Knows" keeps at its No. 2 high point. At the same time, "Good Vibrations" and "Sloop John B" rise to new peaks after debuting just last frame. Those beloved cuts lift to Nos. 4 and 9, respectively. "I Get Around" earns the group a fifth career placement, as it opens at No. 8.

The music icon, who helped define the Southern California surf-rock sound in the 1960s, died after experiencing several minutes of respiratory arrest on the morning of June 11 in his Beverly Hills, California, home, according to a death certificate obtained by USA TODAY June 30. Respiratory arrest occurs when a person stops breathing. Several hours of sepsis, which is a life-threatening bodily response to an infection, per the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and days of cystitis, or a bladder infection, were mentioned as contributing causes. Brian Wilson was under a conservatorship prior to his death Wilson is survived by his daughters from his first marriage, Carnie and Wendy, who achieved success as part of Wilson Phillips. "I have no words to express the sadness I feel right now," wrote Carnie Wilson in a heartfelt tribute on Instagram. "I am lucky to have been his daughter and had a soul connection with him that will live on always. I've never felt this kind of pain before, but I know he's resting up there in heaven … or maybe playing the piano for Grandma Audree, his Mom." He's also survived by his five adopted children from his second marriage to Melinda Ledbetter. Brian Wilson was placed under a conservatorship in 2024. The 6 God's abs sent the internet into a frenzy as fans had plenty to say about the photo. Some complimented Drizzy's chiseled physique while others believed his abs were the result of cosmetic surgery and not hard work. 'Abs etching,' one person asked. Another chimed in, 'No way are we supposed to be believe those abs are real with running form like that!' Others opted to focus on his liquor collection: 'Just missing Glenlivet 12.' It was a busy weekend for the 6 God. He made another post that found him at a bar where he left a signature on the wooden wall teasing Iceman, which many suspect to be the name of Drake's next solo album. 'Iceman. In the months since its release, Americans have continued consuming it in every way possible, whether by streaming the track, hearing it on the radio, or purchasing the tune outright. The Blackpink singer's collaboration with Bruno Mars has been a winner throughout its entire lifespan in the United States. 'Apt.' now stands as the longest-charting track by any K-pop musician on the Digital Song Sales list. "Apt." Surpasses BTS's "Dynamite" Just a few days ago, 'Apt.' matched 'Dynamite' by BTS for this honor. The South Korean septet reset the bar when the poppy tune held its place on the ranking for 34 frames, beginning in September 2020. That record held for almost half a decade, but now it has been beaten. Just One Week at No. 1 Amazingly, 'Apt.' has only spent one week at No. 1 on the Digital Song Sales chart. The track is one of three that Rosé has pushed to the tally under her own name. In 2021, she reached the list with both 'On the Ground' and 'Gone,' which peaked at Nos. 10 and 15, respectively, and only managed a single turn on the roster. 'Apt.' Sells, Streams and Is Still a Radio Hit 'Apt.' continues to live on not only the Digital Song Sales chart, but also the Streaming Songs and Radio Songs rankings. Those three forms of consumption feed into where a tune lands on the Hot 100, where Rosé and Mars can currently be found at No. 25, after previously climbing all the way to No. 3 in the 35 frames the track has spent on that tally — another record among K-pop stars.
