Spanish small forward Hugo Gonzalez is a perfect fit for the Boston Celtics
Spanish small forward Hugo Gonzalez is a perfect fit for the Boston Celtics. Or such is the point of view shared by the hosts of the CLNS Media "How Bout Them Celtics!" podcast, Jack Simone and Sam LaFrance, in a recent clip taking a closer look at the 19-year-old wing that Boston elected to select with the No. 28 overall pick of the 2025 NBA draft. While he does not yet have a clear-cut, Association-level skill to his repertoire, the Madrid native has one of the highest motors we have ever seen a player maintain on the court, and the athleticism and strength to make good use of it against some of the best competition in the world. Simone and LaFrance take some time on a recent episode to highlight what it was that likely got the Celtics front office to take the European forward in the first round. Check it out below! Why did the Boston Celtics make the picks that they did in the 2025 NBA draft?
Why did the Boston Celtics make the picks that they did in the 2025 NBA draft? Fans of the team were a bit perplexed by the Celtics front office electing to take Spanish wing Hugo Gonzalez at No. 28 overall in the first round of the draft. Many of the more vocal Boston fans were even more perplexed by the team trading back from No. 32 overall to take a pair of prospects near the end of the second round, while picking up another two future second round picks. So why did Boston choose to take the picks that they did, and to move back in the second round? There is no better option to answer such question than an employee of the team itself, which is exactly what the Celtics did in a recent clip they put together for their official YouTube channel. Advertisement Team reporter Marc D'Amico dove into why Boston took Hugo Gonzalez out of Real Madrid at No. 28, Amari Williams out of Kentucky at No. 46, and Max Shulga out of VCU at No. 57 in the 2025 NBA draft. Take a look at the clip embedded below to hear what he had to say. This article originally appeared on Celtics Wire: Why did the Celtics make the picks they did in the 2025 NBA draft?

Boston Celtics President of Basketball Operations Brad Stevens full post-NBA draft presser
Boston Celtics President of Basketball Operations Brad Stevens sat down with the media in a post-2025 NBA draft press conference soon after the Celtics elected to take Spanish small forward Hugo Gonzalez with the No. 28 overall pick of the draft on Wednesday (June 25) evening. Stevens had a host of things to address with the press, with Boston having dealt away veteran guard Jrue Holiday for Portland Trail Blazers guard Anfernee Simons and two first round draft picks, and having traded Latvian big man Kristaps Porzingis to the Atlanta Hawks in a three-team deal that brought back reserve forward Georges Niang and a second round pick. The Celtics president also touched on Boston's plans with free agent big men Al Horford and Luke Kornet, the thinking behind drafting Gonzalez in the first round, how the team is viewing their offseason mandates, and more. The folks behind the "CLNS Media Boston Sports Network" YouTube channel put together a clip of Stevens' full media availability session from after the draft on Wednesday. Check it out below!
