Young Designers Weave a New Moroccan Identity in Casablanca at Révélations 2025

Rabat – On the evening of June 20, the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Casablanca transformed into an electric celebration of Moroccan fashion for the 36th edition of 'Révélations', the annual runway show by College LaSalle Morocco. This year's theme was 'Made in Morocco,' a theme that Bouchra BY – Vice President of LCI Education Africa and General Director of Collège LaSalle and HEM – told Morocco World News was chosen to emphasize that it is essential to stay rooted in our traditions while embracing progressiveness in order to create meaningful designs. And indeed, the theme delivered exactly what it set out to achieve: it brought forward creativity, cultural resonance, and authenticity, setting the stage for a remarkable showcase of local talent. The event drew a significant number of celebrities and influential figures, including Isabelle Valois, Ambassador of the Canadian Embassy in Morocco; the talented orchestra conductor and maestra Salma Elidrissi; and Morocco's Minister of Industry and Commerce, Ryad Mezzour. They were joined by numerous stylists, influencers, and artists; a vibrant melting pot of colors and creativity that came together to celebrate and discover the Moroccan talents of today. In a unique progressive twist, the event was presented by an AI host developed by College LaSalle, showcasing the institution's innovation and originality. Following this futuristic touch, guest speakers took the stage to officially launch the runway show, setting the tone for an evening that would captivate and amaze the audience. The energetic vision of rising Moroccan designers was revealed through a variety of categories, including 'Moroccan Talk,' 'The New Moroccan Vision,' 'Trésors de Mon Pays,' 'Loose & Up,' 'Once Upon a Time,' 'Notes de Glamour,' 'Little Cowboy,' 'Q'ssid ELMEL7OUN,' and 'Sables du Sahara Marocain.' Each of these categories were stitched together in distinct layers to create a fashion-forward display of Moroccan identity. One of the designers, Basma Bouamri, told MWN that she was inspired by the 'Made in Morocco' theme to introduce 'tbourida', a traditional Moroccan equestrian performance that is dear to her, into her design. Another designer shared that she was able to blend Moroccan modernity with Western cowboy culture, reflecting a merging of symbols and highlighting the globalized context of today's fashion. The theme further encouraged designers to make their creations personal and intimate, offering the audience a glimpse into their souls and stories. Claude Marshand, President of LCI Education, told MWN 'I think in Morocco we are moving away from fast fashion, we want handmade, which I think is the real luxury, and that craftsmanship is still in Morocco, and it is something to cherish.' In this way, he says, we see the Moroccan fashion scene paving the way for greater opportunities for local talents through using artisanal methods. Each look that graced the runway told a unique story, portraying aspects of Moroccan identity through traditional motifs, colorful fabrics, the incorporation of lights and technology, creative structures, and rich craftsmanship. The collection as a whole paid a heartfelt tribute to the heritage and spirit that define Moroccan heritage at its roots, bringing a refreshing cultural touch to the fashion world.

Korea to Host Its First Ever Job Fair in Morocco on May 25

Rabat – The Korean Embassy in Morocco has announced the organization of the first-ever Korea Job Fair in Morocco, set to take place on May 25 in Casablanca. The event will be held from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Casablanca. The job fair comes at a time when relations between Korea and Morocco are growing stronger, especially in the fields of economics and politics, says the embassy in a press release. The job fair is designed to support this growing partnership by creating new connections between people and businesses, added the statement. The main goal of the job fair is to connect Korean companies operating in Morocco with job seekers, both Moroccan and Korean, who live in the country. It promises to provide a valuable space for Korean companies to find local talent, while also giving job seekers the chance to discover promising career opportunities. Some of the Korean companies that will take part in the event include Samsung Electronics, LG Electronics, Hyundai Rotem, Yura Corporation, and SEOIL Co. The job fair will also see the participation of MediGlobal, Epeul, and KOTRA (Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency). This first job fair of its kind reflects Korea's commitment to mutual prosperity, local job creation, and long-term cooperation with Morocco, added the embassy. The embassy encourages eligible candidates to register in advance and bring a copy of their CV.

Japan ‘becoming very angry' with misbehaving social media influencers

Japan is growing increasingly exasperated with foreign social media influencers who stage disruptive stunts and brazenly flout local norms, as calls grow louder for tougher action to be taken against them. Advertisement Last week, footage was posted on TikTok and other social media platforms showing a foreign man in an orange hat sitting on the floor in the lobby of the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Kyoto. In the video, the man is approached by a police officer who asks him to leave as he is not a guest. He largely ignores both the officer and the translator and stares blankly into space. Later, when the officer tries to open his bag, the man turns to the camera and says, 'I have not given them permission to touch my bag.' The footage immediately provoked angry comments, with one message reading, 'Japanese police officers are too polite' and another suggesting, 'Foreign tourists are taking Japan for granted.' Makoto Watanabe, a professor of communications and media at Hokkaido Bunkyo University in Eniwa, Hokkaido, said the Japanese public was struggling to understand why streamers act in this way – but added, 'We are becoming very angry.'
