Iraq: No radiation threat detected after strikes on Iran nuclear sites
Shafaq News – Baghdad Iraq's nuclear oversight authority on Tuesday dismissed fears of radiation following the recent US airstrikes on Iranian nuclear sites, reporting no trace of contamination across the region. Ahmed Khudair, spokesperson for the National Commission for Nuclear, Radiological, Chemical and Biological Control (I-NRC), told Shafaq News Agency that the Fordow facility—one of the reported targets—contains only partially enriched uranium. 'It does not pose a real danger if targeted,' he clarified, highlighting that the site's underground structure offers substantial protection against explosions and potential radioactive leaks. Khudair underscored that the commission launched immediate monitoring efforts at the onset of the crisis, contributing to scenario planning within Iraq's Central Operations Room for Radiation and Nuclear Emergencies. 'All measurements were accurate and fully aligned with global scientific standards,' he noted.

Iraq: No radioactive contamination detected after US strikes on Iranian nuclear sites
Shafaq News/ Iraq's National Commission for Nuclear, Radiological, Chemical and Biological Control (I-NRC) announced on Sunday that no radioactive contamination has been detected following the US airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities. In an official statement, the commission's head, Fadel Hawi Mazban, said the central emergency operations room had been activated from the outset of the regional escalation to monitor and respond to any radiological or nuclear incidents. 'Since the beginning of the Israeli airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities on June 13, 2025, our emergency response units have implemented appropriate procedures to counter and respond to such events,' Mazban stated. He added that, following the latest US strikes, all radiation monitoring systems, early warning detectors, and background radiation measurements at Iraq's border crossings indicated normal readings. 'All measurements remained within natural background radiation levels,' Mazban affirmed, stressing that the findings are consistent with the commission's earlier assessments and preparations since the beginning of the crisis.

Iraq launches Arab nuclear crisis cell over Iran-Israel tensions
Shafaq News/ Iraq has launched a regional crisis cell to respond to potential nuclear emergencies, as Israeli military operations targeting Iranian nuclear facilities escalate. In a statement, the National Nuclear, Radiological, Chemical, and Biological Regulatory Commission (I-NRC) announced on Wednesday the formation of the joint operations room, in coordination with Arab counterparts, to monitor radiological risks stemming from ongoing military strikes. 'The goal is to safeguard populations, protect the environment, and uphold nuclear safety and security,' it explained. The crisis unit was reportedly approved during a high-level virtual meeting chaired by Salem Hamdi, Director-General of the Arab Atomic Energy Agency, and Sabah Hassan Al-Hussaini, Head of the Arab Network of Nuclear Regulators (ANNuR). Representatives from nuclear regulatory authorities in Jordan, Lebanon, Yemen, Kuwait, Libya, Bahrain, Tunisia, and Sudan also participated.
