Al Fajer Group Joins IBBC
By John Lee. Iraq's Al Fajer Group has joined the Iraq Britain Business Council (IBBC). Operating from offices in Basra and London, the company supports oil and gas operations with a strong focus on the Rumaila oil field. It delivers a wide range of technical and administrative services, including Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I), ICT & Security, HSE, Finance, HR, and Operations. Omar A. Sahib, Managing Director of Al Fajer UK Ltd, stated: "We are delighted to be joining the IBBC and becoming part of a community of private businesses that support the Iraqi economy." IBBC Managing Director Christophe Michels welcomed the move, adding: "IBBC welcomes high capability companies like Al Fajer, who not only bring state-of-the-art electrical technologies to Iraq but also work closely with our community, including BP and Shell, to enhance technical performance." IBBC Welcomes New Member
By John Lee. The Iraq Britain Business Council (IBBC) has announced that Baghdad-based conference and business consultancy provider EMAAL has joined as a member. According to a statement from the IBBC, the business is owned and run by Dr Ali Mahjob (pictured), who previously started the Iraq24 TV station, which focuses on business. EMAAL will hold a tax reform conference in Baghdad in August, and a maritime conference focused on Al Faw in October. Dr Mahjob said: "We have known IBBC for a number of years and are delighted to be joining now our group is expanding. IBBC offers EMAAL a platform for business support in Iraq of all types, and IBBC's macro view of the economy and interaction with Government complements our practical granular level approach to private company development." IBBC Managing Director Christophe Michels welcomed EMAAL, adding: "IBBC has known Dr Ali and Iraq24 news channel, which has been very helpful to IBBC, and we look forward to collaborating with EMAAL in their new venture with our members to benefit the wider private sector in Iraq." Al Marafaa joins IBBC
By John Lee. The Iraq Britain Business Council (IBBC) has announced that Basra-based Al Marafaa has joined IBBC as a member. According to a statement, the company specialises in delivering advanced Information and Communication Technology (ICT) solutions tailored to the unique needs of the international oil and gas industry in Basra, Iraq. It says leading companies like BP, Shell, ENI, KEC, and Total place their trust in Al Marafaa to provide their highly critical internet connectivity, secure their facilities and/or networks, and deliver highly time-sensitive basecamps overseas to them. Al-Marafaa also agreed a strategic research and development partnership with Iraq's Southern Technical University, where collaboration will focus on specific areas of research, including artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, data analytics. Al Marafaa will also train and hire young engineers in their final year to work in the company. Christophe Michels, MD of IBBC said: "We are delighted to welcome Al Marafaa to our membership as they bring strong ITC expertise to the members and Iraq. They will be able to contribute to our education and skills group, as well as the Tech Forum and Energy group. It's interesting to note the growing technology capability of Iraqi companies among our members, which is a strong indicator of modern technical expertise developing within Iraq." Ridha A. IBBC appoints new Baghdad Office Manager
From the Iraq Britain Business Council (IBBC): IBBC appoints Ali Mashkour as its new Baghdad Office Manager. Ali Mashkour joins IBBC from member company MHD International. He is Iraqi British and has been based in Baghdad for the past ten years, working in projects across infrastructure, security, transport and government sectors, managing multi-disciplinary teams and engaging senior stakeholders across both public and private sectors. In his new role, Ali will work in the Baghdad and Erbil offices, supporting members and the organisation's overall objectives and with our Honorary Member Representative Mohammed Alsaadi and our Honorary Representative for Kurdistan and the South of Iraq, Dr Ali Jawad. Christophe Michels, MD of IBBC said: "We are pleased to welcome Ali Mashkour to our team, knowing he has to fill the sad gap that Muhanad Khattab left when he died last month, we have every expectation Ali will bring us new energy and insights to the role, which is of increasing importance to IBBC as our Iraqi membership rapidly grows and are holding more events and conferences in the country." S'wak entrepreneurs see RM1.9 mln sales boost in 2024 through Insken business coaching

KUCHING (June 12): A total of 119 Sarawakian entrepreneurs under the Insken Bumiputera Business Coaching (IBBC) programme recorded a sales increase of RM1.9 million in 2024, according to National Institute of Entrepreneurship (Insken) chairman Mustaffa Kamil Ayub. Speaking at the Program Seminar Usahawan Madani Asas Pembangunan Produk dan Servis (SAPPS) at Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Auditorium here today, he highlighted the tangible outcomes of the IBBC programme. 'In 2024, a total of 1,046 Sarawak entrepreneurs participated in Insken programmes. Of these, 119 received guidance through the IBBC, resulting in RM1.9 million in increased sales, 93 new jobs created and 10 entrepreneurs moving from micro to small enterprise status,' he said. Mustaffa emphasised that continuous learning and entrepreneurial knowledge play a major role in success. 'The knowledge shared is not just theoretical – it produces real impact and tangible results,' he added. He said Insken programmes, including the SAPPS, offer training, seminars, and coaching focused on boosting sales and creating job opportunities. 'SAPPS is not just an ordinary seminar. Today, 30 selected entrepreneurs are undergoing product and service assessments with coaches and industry players to receive direct feedback aimed at strengthening their products for the market.' The seminar, now in its second edition in Sarawak, is a collaboration between Insken, Human Resource Development Corporation (HRD Corp), the State Ministry of International Trade, Industry and Investment (Mintred), as well as local agencies and entrepreneurial non-governmental organisations (NGOs). Mustaffa expressed appreciation to all parties involved, as well as to State Deputy Minister for Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Sarawak Datuk Dr Ripin Lamat, who officiated the event. He noted that Insken has a branch in Kuching as part of its long-term commitment to supporting entrepreneurs across Sarawak. 'Our presence here is not symbolic. It is a concrete effort to expand access to quality entrepreneurial programmes,' he said. In conjunction with the seminar, Insken is also hosting an e-BizClinic, offering free consultations by Insken's BisKaunselor, alongside information booths on training and guidance available beyond the seminar. In this regard, Mustaffa urged participants to take full advantage of the opportunities available. 'Let the knowledge gained here not just be stored, but implemented as a strategy to elevate your business to greater heights.'
