Jersey on the verge of history; beat Scotland in a thriller ICC Men's T20 World Cup Europe Qualifier, 2025
Harrison Carlyon broke Scotland's back early in the first innings to put them on the backfoot by snapping three wickets. Losing half their side for just 43 runs on board, Scotland looked in grave trouble before Matthew Cross held fort with an unbeaten knock to help them finish at 133/7 in their stipulated 20 overs. Jersey were cruising at a point at 81/1 in 11.1 overs with Nick Greenwood leading the chase with a quick 46 off 36 deliveries, before Scotland made a comeback, effecting a mini collapse, courtesy Mark Watt and Chris Greaves. Looking in all sorts of trouble at 110/6 in 16.4 overs, Benjamin Ward kept Jersey in the hunt and brought down the equation to five runs off the final over before getting out off the second delivery, spicing the match up even further. However Jersey crossed the line off the final delivery of the game to pull off a stunning win to keep their ICC T20 World Cup 2026 dreams alive. All eyes will now be on the Netherlands versus Italy game to decide the final two teams to book their flights to India and Sri Lanka next year.

(Photo: PTI) The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) are the joint hosts of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 set to take place early next year. Although India were supposed to be the sole hosts of the tournament, but with Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) refusing tour India and vice-versa, their matches will presumably take place in Sri Lanka along with possibly the semi-final and final if they qualify. The ICC T20 World Cup 2024 was the biggest-ever tournament featuring a mammoth 20 teams for the first time ever which India went on to win in the Caribbean. Defending champions and co-hosts Team India and Sri Lanka are the automatic qualifiers for the tournament which will once again be a 20-team affair. Joining the group of automatic qualifiers from 2024, Canada booked their ticket for a return in 2026, thanks to their win at the recently-concluded Americas Regional Final on home soil. The Canadians completed an undefeated run on their road to India and Sri Lanka, brushing off the likes of Bermuda, Bahamas, and the Cayman Islands. Seven spots remaining for ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 🏆 The path to India and Sri Lanka 📲 — ICC (@ICC) July 1, 2025 How many matches will the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 have? The ICC T20 World Cup 2026 is once again going to be 55-match affair, and the tournament will be played out in the same format, with four groups of five, before two Super 8 groups, semi-finals and a final to crown the next champion. Rohit Sharma-led Team India had defeated South Africa in the final to win the T20 World Cup 2024 in Barbados. Before that though, the final seven teams for the tournament need to be decided across the remaining three regional finals. Which teams have already qualified for the T20 World Cup 2026? As hosts, Sri Lanka and India take up the first two spots for 2026. From there, the next 10 spots were determined by Super 8 qualifiers at the 2024 edition and ICC men's T20I Team Rankings at the June 30, 2024 cut-off date. Thanks to their strong opening round performance and entry to the Super Eights, Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, England, South Africa and the West Indies all secured T20 World Cup 2026 spots, as well as USA, who upstaged Pakistan in a Super Over to steal a Second Round spot in Group A. Despite missing out on the Super 8, Pakistan secured their place at the next edition thanks to their T20I ranking, alongside New Zealand and Ireland. Joining Canada will be the final seven entrants for the 2026 edition via the three remaining regional qualifiers.

Bad news for Team India after IPL 2025 season, star player travels to England for…
Suryakumar Yadav was leading run-scorer for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2025 season. (Photo: BCCI/IPL) The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 got over earlier this month and already some bad news has come Team India way. India's T20 skipper Suryakumar Yadav has decided to travel to England, not to join the Test team, but seen treatment for an injury. Mumbai Indians batter Suryakumar Yadav or 'Sky' will be a massive player for India as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) get ready to host the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 at home. MI had failed to reach the final of the IPL 2025 season, losing the Qualifier 2 match to Shreyas Iyer's Punjab Kings. With 'Sky' not part of India's Test team, he has got a lengthy break till August 26 at least when Team India begin their three-match T20I series against Bangladesh. He will then have to travel to Australia in the month of October for the five-match T20I series against the Aussies later this year. Suryakumar Yadav has decided to travel to London for right-side sports hernia treatment and is expected to be sidelined for a few weeks, according to a report in News24 website. According to the report, Suryakumar's treatment will start next week and he is expected to return to cricket field by August before the Bangladesh series. The BCCI have not issued an official statement, reports suggest the medical procedure could require up to two months of recovery. In conversation with Suryakumar Yadav, captain of Triumph Knights MNE 🔥 Catch him talking about city pride, Season 3 battles, and what it really means to play for Mumbai.#T20Mumbai — T20 Mumbai (@T20Mumbai) June 17, 2025 The timing works in MI batter's favour, as India have no T20I commitments until August, when they travel to Bangladesh for a white-ball tour. That will be followed by home series against the West Indies – which features only Tests – before an away trip to Australia, all of which are part of India's build-up to the 2026 T20 World Cup. Suryakumar's decision to undergo the procedure now is strategic, allowing him to return fully fit for the crucial upcoming T20 cycle. Suryakumar was the leading run-getter for MI in the IPL 2025 season with 717 runs in 16 matches at an average of 65.18 and a strike rate of 167.9. Remarkably, he scored 25 or more in all 16 innings, setting a new T20 record for most consecutive 25+ scores. He also turned out for Triumph Knights MNE in the Mumbai T20 League 2025 earlier this month, but his side managed just one win in five matches, missing out on the Playoffs. He notched up 122 runs in five innings in the tournament.

Muhammad Abbas, Pakistani-origin cricketer, gets central contract by New Zealand for 2025-26
Pakistani-born all-rounder Muhammad Abbas has been awarded a central contract by New Zealand Cricket for the 2025–26 season, marking a significant milestone in his rising international career. The Lahore-born cricketer is one of four new faces on the Black Caps' centrally contracted list, joining Mitch Hay, Zak Foulkes and Adithya Ashok. His inclusion highlights New Zealand's commitment to nurturing emerging talent through a diverse and inclusive pathway system. Abbas, a left-handed batter and right-arm medium-pacer, rose to prominence earlier this year during his One-Day International debut against Pakistan—the country of his birth. He scored a blistering 52 off just 26 deliveries, setting a new record for the fastest half-century by a debutant in men's ODIs. Having migrated to New Zealand as a child, Abbas developed his cricketing abilities through the country's structured age-group and domestic circuits. His rapid rise underscores both his personal work ethic and the effectiveness of New Zealand's development framework. The 21-year-old is expected to play a key role in the Black Caps' preparations for the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, scheduled for next February. His dual skill set with bat and ball makes him a valuable asset in the national setup. 'Muhammad's fearless approach and adaptability stood out,' said a spokesperson from New Zealand Cricket. 'He brings fresh energy to the team and embodies the spirit of modern New Zealand cricket.' This year's contract list reflects a generational shift, with a blend of established names and rising stars, reinforcing the board's long-term vision. While Abbas' name may be new to some fans, it is likely to feature more prominently in the years ahead.
