"Traffic movement severely affected, restoration efforts underway": DM on Uttarkashi landslides
Uttarkashi (Uttarakhand) [India], July 1 (ANI): Following major landslides in the Silai Band area, Uttarkashi District Magistrate Prashant Arya on Monday said that traffic movement has been severely affected due to road washouts at multiple locations, but restoration efforts are underway on a war footing.
Speaking to ANI, DM Arya said, 'Traffic has been disrupted due to road washout at three places in Silai Band area. Work is being done on a war footing to make the road smooth for traffic.'
DM Arya stated that instructions have been issued to the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and the Forest Department to construct an alternative route to ensure safe pedestrian movement in the region.
'In view of the washout of the road in the Ojri area, necessary instructions have been given to the ITBP and Forest Department for the construction of an alternative route there, so that safe movement by foot in the affected area can be made smooth soon...The movement of vehicles will be restored to Silai Band by tomorrow,' he said.
Landslides triggered by heavy rains have been recurring across Uttarkashi district, hampering road connectivity and posing challenges for both locals and tourists.
The administration, along with disaster response agencies, has been actively engaged in clearing debris and ensuring essential connectivity is restored swiftly.
Uttarkashi DM Prashant Arya inspected the relief and rescue operations, which are underway at the site of the incident.
Two workers have died in the incident, and seven people are still missing.
Earlier in the day, Uttarkashi Superintendent of Police (SP) Sarita Dobhal inspected the landslide-affected areas along the Yamunotri National Highway and reviewed the safety measures in place to manage the situation.
'SP Uttarkashi Sarita Dobhal inspected various landslide zones on the Yamunotri National Highway and reviewed and assessed the safety management today, ' posted Uttarkashi Police, Uttarakhand on X.
Meanwhile, officials stated that the 24-hour suspension of the Char Dham Yatra has been lifted. The ban was imposed following a heavy rain alert.
The Yatra was suspended after a cloudburst near Barkot triggered a massive landslide, killing two workers and leaving seven others missing.
Earlier, the Barkot-Yamunotri road in Uttarkashi district, which had been damaged by a landslide, was repaired. However, search operations for the missing individuals are still underway.
Uttarkashi District Magistrate Prashant Arya confirmed to ANI that 'repairs have been completed on the washout before Silai Band, and that efforts are ongoing to restore other damaged portions of the road.'
'The washout that happened due to a cloud burst before Silai Band on the Barkot-Yamunotri road of the district has been repaired and the road has been made smooth, while the work of making the other washout smooth is going on,' Uttarkashi District Magistrate Prashant Arya said. (ANI)

Railways rationalises passenger fares from tomorrow; No change for suburban routes
New Delhi (India) June 30 (ANI): In a move aimed at streamlining fare structures and enhancing the financial sustainability of passenger services, the Ministry of Railways has rationalised the basic fare of Passenger train services, effective from 01 July 2025. The revised fares are based on the updated Passenger Fare Table issued by the Indian Railway Conference Association (IRCA), the railways said in a release. As per the release, no change in Suburban single journey fares and Season Tickets (for both suburban and non-suburban routes). The fare hike varies across different classes and train types. For ordinary non-AC classes in non-suburban trains, second-class fares will increase by half a paisa per kilometre, subject to certain conditions, such as No increase up to 500 Km; Increase by Rs 5 for distance 501 to 1500 Km; Increase by Rs 10 for distance 1501 to 2500 Km; and Increase by Rs 15 for distance 2501 to 3000 Km. Sleeper and first-class fares will also see a similar increase. The first class will witness an increase of 0.5 paise per kilometre. Mail and express trains will have a slightly higher fare hike, with second-class fares increasing by one paisa per kilometre, and sleeper and first-class fares will follow the same. AC classes, including AC chair car, AC 3-Tier/3-Economy, AC 2-tier, and AC First/Executive Class/Executive Anubhuti, will see a fare increase of two paisa per kilometre. The fare revision also applies to premier and special train services such as Rajdhani, Shatabdi, Duronto, Vande Bharat, Tejas, Humsafar, Amrit Bharat, Mahamana, Gatimaan, Antyodaya, Jan Shatabdi, Yuva Express, AC Vistadome coaches, Anubhuti coaches, and Ordinary non-suburban services, in accordance with the revised class-wise fare structure. Additionally, there will be no change in ancillary charges, such as reservation fees, superfast surcharges, and other applicable charges, which will remain unchanged. GST will continue to be levied as per applicable rules. Fare rounding principles remain as per existing norms. The revised fares will apply to tickets booked on or after 01.07.2025. Tickets issued before this date will remain valid at the existing fare without any fare adjustment. PRS, UTS, and manual ticketing systems are being updated accordingly, the release said. The Ministry of Railways has issued necessary instructions to all Zonal Railways to ensure the smooth implementation of the revised fare structure and update fare displays at all stations, it added. J-K LG Manoj Sinha visits Baltal base camp to review Amarnath Yatra arrangements
Ganderbal (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], June 30 (ANI): Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Monday visited the Baltal base camp to review necessary arrangements for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra. The first batch of pilgrims will be flagged off from the Jammu base camp on July 2 and the Yatra will officially begin on July 3 via both the Baltal and Pahalgam routes. Sinha met with officials from all departments to review security, logistics, and coordination for this year's Amarnath Yatra. He also said that the administration and security forces have made better arrangements this year to ensure a safe and smooth pilgrimage for devotees from across the country. Speaking to the reporters, Sinha said, 'Officials from all departments were present in the meeting here administration and the Shrine Board have together made better arrangements. The security forces have made very robust security arrangements. I hope that this time, people will be able to undertake the yatra even more successfully than before, and the devotees coming from all over the country will have a better experience here...' Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also spoke on the necessary arrangements facilitated for the pilgrims of the Amarnath Yatra. He further stated that the Lieutenant Governor (LG) Manoj Sinha chaired two meetings ahead of the pilgrimage, one with the political parties and one with the civil society to ensure proper facilities for pilgrims. 'We have made the necessary arrangements to facilitate the pilgrims. The LG chaired two meetings, one with political parties and one with civil society. All necessary security arrangements have been made, and we are eagerly waiting for the pilgrims to arrive.
