Pc Ian Minett, aged 38, died last month while on duty with Gloucestershire Police, and has been described as a 'massive loss' by his colleagues as tributes pour in The police community is mourning the loss of an officer who tragically collapsed and died while on duty last month. At just 38 years old, Pc Ian Minett, was serving with Gloucestershire Police during a night shift when he suddenly passed away. Having rejoined the force in 2022, he had previously dedicated 13 years as a special constable. His family released a heartfelt statement: "He was working as a Cheltenham and Tewkesbury local policing constable when he tragically and suddenly passed away, despite the gallant efforts of his colleagues on B shift nights and the ambulance paramedics,". They expressed immense pride in his service: "We, as Ian's parents, and family, are all very proud of his achievements within the police force." Finding solace in his dedication, they said: "We take consolation in the fact that Ian died performing the job he loved, in the town he loved, and that he was well loved and respected by all who knew him and worked with him." The family honoured their son: "Ian, we were privileged to have had you as our son, and we will keep your memories alive in our hearts and minds forever." They concluded with a poignant tribute: "Pc 255080 we salute you." Pc Minett's career began as a special constable with Gloucestershire Police in 2006, followed by a stint as a call handler for Thames Valley Police. He later became a full-time officer with the Ministry of Defence before returning to Gloucestershire Police three years prior to his untimely death. Adam Williams, chairman of Gloucestershire Police Federation, previously stated: "I was lucky enough to work with Ian and he was well liked amongst all that had the pleasure of working alongside him and getting to know him. "It is a massive loss to the shift, the station, and to the Constabulary as a whole." Charities like Care of Police Survivors (COPS) and the Police Memorial Trust support the families of police officers who die on duty. COPS provides vital support to bereaved families. The Police Memorial Trust maintains a Roll of Honour of officers killed in the line of duty and provides information and support to the public and related organizations. Since its foundation in 2003, COPS has helped support hundreds of police families devastated by the loss of a loved one who died on duty. COPS provides peer support opportunities to bring survivor families – the families of police officers who have lost their lives on duty – together, as well as access to counselling and specialist bereavement services.

Adam Williams, chairman of Gloucestershire Police Federation, said previously: 'I was lucky enough to work with Ian and he was well liked amongst all that had the pleasure of working alongside him and getting to know him. 'It is a massive loss to the shift, the station, and to the Constabulary as a whole.'

Gloucestershire Constabulary announced the untimely passing of PC Ian Minett on Saturday morning whose death is currently being treated as unexplained but not suspicious. In a heartfelt statement, the force said: "We extend our thoughts and prayers to PC Minett's family, friends, and colleagues, and we ask that his family are given privacy at this difficult time." The force's deputy chief constable Katy Barrow-Grint added: "Gloucestershire Constabulary is saddened about the death of PC Ian Minett whilst on duty yesterday morning (Saturday 21 June). PC Minett was a much loved and respected colleague who worked as a response officer and also served with the Constabulary for many years as a Special Constable. "At this point the cause of PC Minett's death is being treated as unexplained but non-suspicious and his family are being supported at this very difficult time. "We extend our thoughts and prayers to PC Minett's family, friends and colleagues. PC Minett will be greatly missed by everyone who knew and worked alongside him. Please can PC Minett's family be given privacy at this extremely difficult time." South Wales Police have also expressed their sorrow at PC Minett's passing: "We are very saddened by the news that a Gloucestershire Constabulary police officer died whilst on duty this weekend. Reflecting on years of shared service, Rachel Stemp wrote: "Such a kind gentleman, helped me only 2 weeks ago when myself and my colleague needed backing up. Known him my whole 18 years service and was a brilliant officer, much loved and going to be missed. My thoughts are with your family. The thin blue line just got thinner because of you." Sue Absalom fondly recalled the late officer, describing him as "a truly lovely, caring guy with a cracking sense of humour," and added: "It was a pleasure to have Ian on my team in Tewkesbury a few years ago. An absolute loss to policing." Adam Williams, chair of Gloucestershire Police Federation, expressed the organisation's profound sorrow: "All at Gloucestershire Police Federation are devastated to hear of the on duty death of PC Ian Minett." He continued: "I was lucky enough to work with Ian and he was well liked amongst all that had the pleasure of working alongside him and getting to know him. A POLICE force has paid a touching tribute to a police officer who tragically died while on duty. PC Ian Minett passed away on Saturday morning in what has been described as an 'unexplained but non-suspicious' incident. 2 Devastated colleague Adam Williams, chairman of Gloucestershire Police Federation, told how it was a "massive loss" to the constabulary. He said: 'I was lucky enough to work with Ian. "He was well liked amongst all that had the pleasure of working alongside him and getting to know him. "It is a massive loss to the shift, the station, and to the Constabulary as a whole." Gloucester Constabulary issued a statement shortly after 1.30pm today. The force confirmed that the coroner had been informed and offered its condolences to PC Minett's family. It said: "Gloucestershire Constabulary is saddened to report the death of PC Ian Minett whilst on duty this morning (Saturday 21 June). "PC Minett's death is being treated as unexplained but non-suspicious and the Coroner has been informed. "We extend our thoughts and prayers to PC Minett's family, friends, and colleagues. "We ask that his family are given privacy at this difficult time." 2

A coroner has been informed of the death and it is not being treated as suspicious.
