NEW DELHI: One of the two terror suspects recently arrested in Andhra Pradesh's Rayachoti town has been identified as a major operative with extensive experience in bomb-making and links to past terror attacks, according to Andhra Pradesh Police. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Abubacker Siddique, in his 50s, was arrested along with Mohammed Ali by the Tamil Nadu Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) earlier this week. Speaking to the media on Saturday, Kurnool Range DIG Koya Praveen described Siddique as a "big fish." "This fellow (Siddique) is too big a fish than what we had thought," Praveen told PTI. "He had travelled across the country and frequently visited Gulf nations. He operated as a lone wolf, offering his bomb-making expertise to those who shared his radical ideology." Links to Zakir Naik and previous attacks Police say Siddique was ideologically driven by the teachings of fugitive preacher Zakir Naik and had been acting independently, assisting others aligned with extremist ideologies. He is said to be an expert in manufacturing Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), timer-based bombs, and electronic triggering mechanisms. Siddique is suspected of being involved in the bombing at the BJP office in Malleshwaram, Bengaluru, as well as the 2011 pipe-bomb attempt in Madurai during BJP veteran L K Advani's rath yatra. Police are currently investigating his full network and past involvement in terror-related cases. Explosive materials, Isis literature, and digital evidence seized Authorities have carried out fresh searches at the suspects' premises, recovering several incriminating items. While no live explosives were found during Saturday's search, police seized documents and pen drives, adding to an already significant cache of evidence. Earlier searches yielded: Daggers, sickles, digital timers, clock switches, and speed controllers Ball bearings, nuts and bolts commonly used in IEDs Walkie-talkies, mobile phones, binoculars, and hacking software Maps of major Indian cities and Isis-inspired literature Coding manuals, digital storage devices, cheque books, and financial records On July 3, the police had also safely disposed of a parcel bomb recovered from the duo. Investigation continues into wider network DIG Praveen confirmed that Siddique had settled in Rayachoti in recent years, but his operations appear to have national and international footprints.

Courier supplying arms & explosives to Maoists held: Cops

1 2 Raipur: Chhattisgarh Police have arrested a person acting as courier involved in supplying illegal weapons and explosives to Maoists in the Narayanpur district. The arrest follows the seizure of a large quantity of illegal arms, ammunition, and other explosive materials, further tightening the security measures against Maoist activities in the region. Police apprehended 27-year-old Prakash Soni, a resident of Bakharupara, from the Kuthul Road area in Narayanpur. Authorities found a scooter belonging to the accused containing 3 meters of cordex wire, electric cables, a scanner (walkie-talkie), 20 rounds of ammunition, and three detonators. During interrogation, Soni admitted to being involved in the illegal supply of firearms, ammunition, and explosives to Naxalites for the past five years. He revealed that he had been procuring and delivering these materials through underground channels, linking him to a larger network of urban facilitators assisting Naxal activities, cops said. Authorities further claimed that Soni was in possession of materials typically used to manufacture Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), which were intended for use by Maoists. The police are now investigating the broader network linked to this operation, with leads pointing to connections across several other states. Authorities have set up a special team to identify and apprehend the individuals involved in this operation. According to information, these individuals are believed to be responsible for procuring and distributing illegal weapons and explosives for the Maoists, contributing to the ongoing insurgency in the region. The police also plan to conduct further operations to dismantle the entire supply chain that has been feeding the insurgency, with a special emphasis on the networks stretching across state borders.

Man dies in Asr blast while ‘trying to retrieve explosive'

Amritsar/Chandigarh: A man was killed in a powerful explosion near Decent Avenue in Amritsar on between 9.30 am to 10.00 am on Tuesday, with police believing that the blast occurred when he tried to retrieve the explosive. Police suspect that the man, identified later in the day by a senior police officer as Nitin, in his twenties, son of an auto driver and hailing from Chheharta, was a "drug addict" and likely a "foot soldier" who had come to "retrieve the explosive on the directions of his handlers in a cut out module modus operandi where location of the explosive is shared with the foot soldier". While deputy inspector general (DIG) Border Range Satinder Singh described it as a "prima facie case of terrorism", another senior Punjab police officer privy with the investigations said "nothing conclusive could be said about his handlers as of now since he died" and "did not even have a mobile phone since his family is very poor". The officer said, "Even his father, who is an auto-rickshaw driver, has a basic phone. " The officer said, "Though he did not have any phone, but he must have used someone's phone for sure for getting in touch with handlers. In the absence of the phone he used to get in touch with his handlers, it may be painstaking investigation to ascertain that at the behest of which organisation he had come to retrieve the explosive." The officer added, "He could have been tasked by any Pakistan intelligence officer. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch CFD với công nghệ và tốc độ tốt hơn IC Markets Đăng ký It could be Harwinder Rinda group or the one which carried out grenade attack on [BJP] leader Manoranjan Kalia's house. We are working on it." Punjab police suspect that the explosive that caused the blast could have been "improvised explosive device or a pressure bomb", but would wait for the forensic report to say anything conclusive on that. "It may be an IED which might have gone off due to its trigger mechanism getting on while retrieving it. It is unlikely to be grenade as there has been no recovery of pin or safety lever from the spot," said the officer. The DIG said the police had uncovered a recurring modus operandi in such cases, where terror organisations hide explosives like grenades or Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) at abandoned places. "An operative is sent a picture of the location to retrieve the device and carry out planned attacks. In this case, a pole indicated where the explosive was hidden." The DIG said, "The circumstantial evidence suggests the deceased was tasked with retrieving the explosive, which accidentally detonated while he was handling it." Hinting that "items recovered from his pockets strongly link him to terrorist organisations," the DIG said a Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team was analysing the explosive to determine whether it was an IED or a grenade. Confirming that "the man injured in the blast succumbed to injuries," the DIG said ongoing investigations point to the involvement of terror groups such as Babbar Khalsa International (BKI). Police suspect the man was attempting to retrieve an explosive device when it detonated between 9.30am and 10am near Decent Avenue. Unconfirmed reports have fuelled speculation that the man intended to target policemen, but the DIG declined to comment, citing the sensitivity of the investigation. "We have recovered several clues from his personal belongings, but I cannot reveal them at this stage," he said.
