India-Turkey news Bad news for Turkey: In a significant development making Turkey nervous, Indian Air Force Chief Amar Preet Singh conducted a successful visit to Greece, an European country known as the arch-rival of Pakistan's friend Turkey. The special visit has sent shockwaves across the leadership of Turkey as Turkey and Greece have been engaged in a long-standing conflict. Reports say that India has agreed to give its Long Range Land Attack Cruise Missile (LR-LACM) with a range of more than 1000 kilometers to Greece. According to a release by the Hellenic Air Force, the Air Chief Marshal arrived in the country on June 23, upon the invitation of Lieutenant General (P) Dimosthenis Grigoriadis, Chief of the Hellenic Air Force General Staff. The visit, aimed at enhancing bilateral cooperation in operations and training, marks a significant step in strengthening the strategic partnership between the two air forces. What did Indian Air Force say on Greece visit 'The Indian Air Force (IAF) Chief of the Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal AP Singh, was presented with the ceremonial Guard of Honour on arrival during his official visit to Greece, on invitation of Lt Gen (P) Dimosthenis Grigoriadis, Chief of HAF General Staff. The visit aims to strengthen bilateral cooperation in Operations and Training. The CAS was briefed on HAF's operational framework, visited a Combat Wing, and participated in Staff talks. The two Air Forces continue to reinforce interoperability through joint participation in exercises like Iniochos and Tarang Shakti,' the Indian Air Force stated in a post on X. During his stay, Air Chief Marshal Singh, accompanied by Lieutenant General Grigoriadis, will be visiting the Hellenic Air Force Combat Wings and the Hellenic Air Force Academy at the Dekelia Air Base in Tatoi. The Hellenic Air Force, in its release, provided further details on the visit, noting the ongoing collaboration between the two air forces, which has been demonstrated through joint participation in military exercises such as 'Iniochos 23', 'Iniochos 25', and the multinational exercise 'Tarang Shakti 24'. (File) Ahmedabad plane crash: Turkey on Sunday refuted allegations made by Yoga guru Baba Ramdev that the London-bound Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner which crashed in Gujarat on June 12, killing 241 onboard, was maintained by a Turkish technical team. In an official statement, Ankara termed the allegations as false and 'misinformation' aimed at spoiling India-Turkey relations. 'The claim that the maintenance of the Boeing 787-8 passenger aircraft was done by Turkish Technic is false,' the statement said, maintaining that Turkish Technic– the maintenance, repair and overhaul center of Turkish Airlines, which also serves 3rd-party airlines at its maintenance hangar at the Istanbul Airport– was never tasked with the servicing or maintenance of Air India's ill-fated Boeing 787-8 aircraft. Turkish Technic never serviced Air India's Boeing 787-8 Turkish authorities also revealed that the maintenance agreements signed between Air India and Turkish Technic in 2024-25 were limited to the B777-type wide-body aircraft only. 'Turkish Technic has not serviced any Air India aircraft of this type till date,' the statement said, asserting that claims were aimed at 'manipulating' public opinion in India about India-Turkey relations. Won't name company that last serviced crashed AI-171 Turkish authorities also said they are aware of the company that last serviced the crashed plane, but declined to name the firm to prevent unnecessary speculation. 'We know which company performed the most recent maintenance of the crashed aircraft, but it is beyond our scope to make a statement on this matter to avoid further speculation. The Center for Countering Disinformation will continue to monitor and take necessary measures against attempts targeting the reputation of our major brands, which represent Turkey on the international stage.' Turkish people share India's grief The statement also extended Turkey's condolences to India over the the deaths caused in the fatal Ahmedabad plane crash, saying the people of Turkey 'sincerely share the grief of the Indian people over this tragic plane crash'. Expressing condolences to India, the statement said, 'As the people of Turkey, we sincerely share the grief of the Indian people over this tragic plane crash. Respectfully presented for public information.' Baba Ramdev claims Turkish Technic serviced ill-fated Air India plane Earlier, Patanjali founder and Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev had claimed that a Turkish firm was tasked with the maintenance of the ill-fated Air India flight AI-171 that crashed minutes after take off earlier this week. 'I have come to know that the maintenance and service of the aircraft was done by a Turkish agency. India will have to keep a close eye on the aviation sector. There is a possibility of conspiracy by that agency. India will have to stop the interference of foreign companies in such sensitive matters,' Ramdev had claimed. Ahmedabad plane crash An India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, operating as flight AI 171 from Ahmedabad to London, Gatwick, crashed shortly after take off on Thursday, killing 241 people on board, including 230 passengers and 12 crew members. The lone survivor, identified as Vishwashkumar Ramesh, a British national of Indian origin, sustained injuries and is undergoing treatment. Veteran pilots with years of flying experience believe the accident could have happened due to the simultaneous failure of both engines of the aircraft, a rare occurrence but not something unheard of.

Robotic lifebuoys coming to Mumbai beaches? Not so soon, BMC scraps plan amid fallout with Turkey
Mumbai will have to wait longer for the dream robotic lifebuoys as the city's civic body scrapped its plan to procure Turkey-made bot. As per the initial plan, these remotely-operated rescue machines were sought for deployment across Mumbai's half-a-dozen beaches, an official informed PTI. This decision comes in the wake of backlash over Turkey's role in supporting Pakistan and India-Turkey fallout post Operation Sindoor. Boycott Turkey goods calls were raised and trade relations strained between the two countries after Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's government criticised India's terror clampdown and strikes in Pakistan and Pakistan occupied Kashmir. According to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, these bots were to be deployed at Girgaum Chowpatty, Shivaji Park Dadar, Juhu, Versova, Aksa and Gorai beaches. However, a change in plan was made after Turkey openly condemned India's action in response to April 22 Pahalgam terror attack. Affirming the development related to procurement of robotic lifebuoys, Municipal Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani said that the civic body has scrapped the plan to procure robotic lifebuoys manufactured in Turkey. Designed to assist lifeguards, the robotic lifebuoys would have been a part of search and rescue operation to save people from drowning. Equipped with dual water jets, each unit of robotic lifebuoys possess a 10,000 mAh rechargeable battery. With a carriage capacity of 200 kg, these remotely-operated rescue machines can cover a distance of 800 metres into the sea at speeds up to 18 km/h. BMC officials further informed PTI that the bot can operate for about an hour after one charge. Following the deal with the Eurasian country, the BMC faced strong criticism from political parties. BJP and Shiv Sena leaders had questioned and condemned the procurement of the machine from foreign supplier and had insisted on promoting indigenous production.
