First Look at Vietnamese Restaurant Two Bit Club, Opening in Downtown Charleston

The Indigo Road Hospitality Group (Oak Steakhouse, Ok-U, and Indaco, among others) has yet another restaurant on the way for the Lowcountry. Two Bit Club, which will be the team's first foray into Vietnamese cuisine, will open at 93 Society Street, on Thursday, June 19. The name, Two Bit Club, comes from a society formed at Poinsett Tavern in the 1730s. According to the South Carolina Society, French Huguenot Elisha Poinsett ran the tavern in Charleston, and his friends would frequent the establishment with charity in mind. They would contribute two bits (sixteen pence) each to be given to those in need. The group was then nicknamed the Two-Bit Society, which was later formalized as the South Carolina Society. Two Bit Club is attached to Indigo Road's latest hotel, Hotel Richemont. Just off the lobby is the upscale dining room with a bar, outdoor seating, and a chef's counter. The space is filled with rich wood details, plush banquettes in indigo, hanging plants, and brass light fixtures. The room is illuminated by floor-to-ceiling windows facing Society Street. The restaurant's executive chef is Jesus Carlo 'Jelo' Tria. Tria was born in Manila, Philippines, and learned to cook by helping his mother in the kitchen. He moved to the United States at the age of 15. Tria studied at the Charleston Culinary Institute, and before joining the Indigo Road team, he worked at restaurants like the Peacock and Mesu. 'Charleston already has an incredible and diverse culinary community, and we're excited to be part of that, bringing our own take on Vietnamese cuisine to the table,' says Tria. 'Two Bit Club is a reflection of my background and love for bold flavors and the kind of meals that spark connection. It's an honor to share that here and to add to the city's growing appetite for global flavors and fun, fresh dining experiences.' On the menu, diners will find many Vietnamese classics, like spring rolls, papaya salad, pho, bahn mi, bun thit nuong (vermicelli noodles topped with pork), com chien dac biet (fried rice), roasted duck with hoisin sauce, and more. Two Bit Club will open Sunday through Thursday, from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., and Friday through Saturday, from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. Take a look around the space here, before the opening on Thursday, June 19. Maru rooftop bar to debut in Tampa's Bayshore with Nikkei-inspired menu

A hospitality group known for its innovative concepts is bringing a taste of Japanese-Peruvian fusion to Tampa's Bayshore neighborhood. Story Highlights Maru, a rooftop cocktail bar, opens Friday, May 2, in Tampa's Bayshore neighborhood. Menu includes small plates, hand rolls, ceviches, and upscale shareables like caviar. Open Thursday–Sunday from 4 p.m. to midnight; until 1 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. A new rooftop bar is set to open in Tampa's Bayshore neighborhood. Maru, an elevated rooftop cocktail bar with a Nikkei-style menu, will open on May 2. The new eatery from the Indigo Road Hospitality Group will be located on the seventh floor of Bayshore Gardens at 2909 W Bay to Bay Blvd. Asana Partners is redeveloping Bayshore Gardens, located along West Bay to Bay Boulevard, with scenic views of Bayshore Boulevard and Hillsborough Bay. The developer acquired the site in late 2021 and is known for its distinctive, retail-focused neighborhood projects. Since then, it has expanded its footprint in Tampa's urban core, with a portfolio that includes properties in North Hyde Park and SoHo. Maru will offer customers traditional Japanese cooking techniques mixed with Peruvian flavors, according to a release. It will have a curated beverage program led by beverage director Vonda Freeman, with a selection of sparkling wines, champagnes and crafted cocktails. Under the direction of Chef Masa Hamaya, Maru's menu has shareable dishes, ranging from small plates, hand rolls and ceviche to elevated shareable dishes such as caviar. The restaurant will be open Thursday through Sunday from 4 p.m. to midnight, with extended hours until 1 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. This latest opening continues Indigo Road Hospitality Group's trend of opening unique concepts in Bayshore. Last year, the company announced it would open O-Ku, a sushi concept, this year on the ground floor of Bayshore Gardens.
