HP Omen Max 16 review: Desktop level gaming performance in a portable laptop

HP Omen Max 16 is one of those gaming laptops that doesn't come around very often, but when it does, it quickly becomes a highly desirable device for gamers. This gaming beast is packed to the brim with hardware and software that rival a gaming desktop at this point. With a price tag of a whopping ₹ 3,09,999, it had better run every modern title on ultra settings. Let's begin with the Omen Max 16 review and see just how desirable it remains till the end. Specification Details Display 16-inch WQXGA (2560 x 1600), 60–240 Hz, 3 ms, Anti-glare Processor Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX (up to 5.4 GHz, 24 cores, 24 threads) Graphics NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 (16 GB) RAM 32 GB DDR5 Storage 1 TB SSD Operating System Windows 11 Home Ports 2x Thunderbolt 4 (USB-C), 2x USB-A, HDMI 2.1, RJ-45, headphone/mic combo Battery 83 Wh, 6 cell Weight 2.68 kg Keyboard Per-key RGB backlit keyboard with light bar Color Shadow black aluminium, RGB accents Price ₹ 3,09,990 The Omen Max 16 comes with a very stealthy look; it is matte all around and HP calls this shadow black finish, which sounds and looks good. Only until you start touching it, it becomes a fingerprint magnet. That aside, the build quality is amazing, with not even a flex anywhere on the whole chassis. Even the hinge feels pretty solid with no wobble when adjusting the display, and with a laptop this heavy, you can lift the lid with one finger. HP Omen Max 16 Review: Design The laptop is heavy at 2.6 kg, which is not very easy to carry, and on top of that, the power brick is another approximately 700 grams. So, good luck carrying it around in a backpack. The laptop is also thick, with 24.8 mm at the thickest part. But I shouldn't be complaining because that extra weight is on me. After all, I wanted the best of the best gaming performance in a portable design. The 16-inch WQXGA IPS display stands out with its 2560x1600 resolution, 240Hz variable refresh rate, 3ms response time, and 500 nits brightness. The 16:10 aspect ratio offers extra vertical space for people who work with spreadsheets. But in gaming, it's not much use unless you play strategy games like DOTA or LOL. HP Omen Max 16 display The display features a matte finish on top, which cuts off any glare when using the laptop in a well-lit room or even outside. With an IPS panel this big, I often see light bleed or uneven lighting, but HP has again kept the premium experience consistent here. The 240Hz refresh rate not only makes the games look smooth, but everyday tasks like browsing the web also become a pleasant experience. This IPS panel is pretty good with contrast and the sharpness of the content. Its 3ms response time is good for esports titles like Counter-Strike. The brightness is also great; I barely had to crank the brightness to max even when playing horror games like Resident Evil. The keyboard you get here is a full-size keyboard with a numpad and a couple of extra keys, which may come in handy. Key features include a quiet press with a nice bounce to them, which is great for gaming as well as typing. The keys are also very stable, so no wobble or cheap feeling at all. One complaint I have is that with a numpad, the main keys shift to the left and it needs a little bit of adaptation, especially for typing. HP Omen Max 16 keyboard and trackpad The keyboard is all RGB with per-key lighting, with sufficient brightness to use the keyboard in low light. Omen Gaming Hub has a lot of customisation options to choose from and, with a lighting extension and custom theme maker, the options become endless. A light strip is also provided at the front of the laptop, which can also be configured like the keyboard lighting. The trackpad is decent with a large surface area and a nice feel to the touch, even though it is not a glass-top trackpad. This is a clicky trackpad with a button and the click sounds hollow. It is a precision trackpad with multi-finger gesture support and, overall, the tracking is accurate and snappy. Omen Max 16 features an Intel Core Ultra 9 and an Nvidia RTX 5080 GPU; there are very few options available to buy right now. This is the best combination for a gaming laptop at present, since there is barely any game available that can make this hardware sweat. Let's start with the synthetic benchmarks and see how it performed there. HP Omen Max 16 benchmark HP Omen Max 16 benchmark HP Omen Max 16 benchmark Starting with Geekbench, it scored 1,540 in single-core performance and 15,812 in multi-core performance. PCMark 10 gave it 6,108 points for its overall performance. I also ran Cinebench 24 and the scores are pretty good; the single-core score is 55, which is just above a 16-core Threadripper chip. The multi-core score is 1,405, which is just above a 32-core Threadripper chip. HP Omen Max 16 Gaming I played multiple AAA titles on this laptop, including Cyberpunk 2077, Doom: The Dark Ages, Stellar Blade, and Ghost of Tsushima. Out of these, Doom, Stellar Blade, and Ghost of Tsushima gave around 200 FPS at native resolution and ultra settings. Only Cyberpunk 2077 gave this GPU a run for its money; you get about 60 to 70 FPS with graphics settings cranked to the max, including Path Tracing enabled. HP's Tempest Cooling Pro system uses a large vapour chamber and liquid metal thermal compound to keep temperatures in check. The laptop stays cool to the touch and you cannot hear the fan spinning with regular tasks like browsing, watching content, or even on idle. When you run games, the fans get louder depending on the performance mode. When on performance, you can hear the fan going loud. Fans go all the way up to 6,000 RPM with Unleashed mode turned on and even with that, the fans are not as loud as I expected them to be in a gaming laptop. HP's Omen Gaming Hub software offers granular control over all the features of the laptop, including performance modes, RGB lighting, and fan cleaning. Pro users can take full advantage of the performance tuning features available in the Gaming Hub to squeeze out maximum frame rates from the hardware. A fan cleaning feature is available that spins the fans in the opposite direction to eject all the dust collected on the blades of the fan. An Omen AI mode is provided in the Gaming Hub that dials in the best settings automatically for competitive FPS games, and currently it works only in three games: Counter-Strike, Apex Legends, and League of Legends. The dual speakers on the Max 16 support DTS:X Ultra with HP Audio Boost to offer clear and loud sound. Although the sound quality is pretty decent, don't expect too much from these speakers. The 1080p camera supports Windows Hello and it comes with a privacy shutter. Camera quality is good and, with the addition of Windows Studio effects, it becomes a nice addition for meetings or casual video calls. HP Omen Max 16 ports A gaming laptop requires robust connectivity, and HP has taken care of this with a total of seven important ports. It includes 2 Thunderbolt 4 ports, 2 USB Type-A ports, an HDMI 2.1, one RJ45, and one headphone jack. For wireless connectivity, it features Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 HP Omen Max 16 battery An 83Wh battery is not the biggest I have seen on a laptop, but it is still big enough to give you about 3 to 4 hours of web browsing. Although it is not recommended to play games on battery, I tried it and got about an hour of gameplay on Eco mode. The 330W charger supports fast charging and tops up 50% battery in 30 minutes Top-tier performance with Intel Core Ultra 9 and RTX 5080 Excellent high refresh rate display Premium design and sturdy build Stays cool when not under stress Good port selection Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 support Supports overclocking with Unleashed mode Cons Fans get loud under heavy load Average battery life Laptop and charger combine weight is more than 3 kg Matte finish attracts fingerprints Average speaker quality High price point The HP Omen Max 16 is a maxed-out gaming laptop that I can't even think twice about before recommending to you if you can afford one. This laptop can easily replace your gaming PC without a noticeable performance drop. That said, once you decide to buy this laptop, you must know that it's a heavy machine and carrying it around with its charger is not easy.

Amazon Is Going All In, ASUS Strix G16 Gaming Laptop with RTX 5070i Suddenly Got a Lot Cheaper

The top-of-the-line gaming laptops with powerful graphics cards and next-gen processors are rarely discounted, especially in a market that is going through shortages and keeping prices high. This is why it is such a big deal when a great laptop like the ASUS ROG Strix G16 (2025) gets a deep discount. At the moment, this beast of a laptop (RTX 5070 Ti, Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX Processor, 32GB DDR5, 1TB SSD, Wi-Fi 7) is $400 off for Prime Day, bringing its price down to $1,999. It's a once-a-year chance to get a high-end gaming laptop for less than $2,000, and it's only available to Prime members (even those on the free 30-day trial). See at Amazon The 2025 version of the ROG Strix G16 is designed for gamers who require best-in-class performance. At the center of it all is the Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX processor which is perhaps the most advanced chip around and that is capable of handling the latest games and demanding multitasking with ease. Paired with the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Ti graphics processing unit (powered by the cutting-edge NVIDIA Blackwell architecture and loaded with DLSS 4 and Max-Q technologies), this laptop delivers smooth-as-silk frame rates, ray tracing and AI-accelerated graphics increases that upgrade each game to next-generation visuals and feel. What's more, the 16-inch ROG Nebula Display supports 16:10 aspect ratio, 2.5K resolution, and a blazing 240Hz refresh rate with 3ms response time. That means ultra smooth visuals, zero motion blur and an immersive experience whether playing games. The better ACR film boosts contrast and reduces glare and gives you vivid colors and sharp details no matter what the lighting condition. With 32GB of DDR5-5600MHz RAM, you'll have no problem juggling games, streaming, and productivity programs at the same time. The 1TB PCIe Gen 4 SSD delivers lightning-fast load times and tons of space for an enormous library of games. You'll never lack space or wait on slow-load screens. Cooling is most important in a high-performance laptop, and ASUS has equipped the Strix G16 with its latest ROG Intelligent Cooling system. That includes an end-to-end vapor chamber, tri-fan tech and Conductonaut Extreme liquid metal on the chipset, all of which work together to cool and stay silent even under extended gaming use. The full-surround RGB light bar enables you to synchronize lighting effects between your keyboard and other ROG peripherals and Stealth Mode turns off all lighting for a more professional look. Tool-less access makes it easy to upgrade RAM, SSD, and fans, with a frame that can be removed to conceal the hardware and give advanced users more access for customization. If you're looking for the best gaming laptop, the ASUS ROG Strix G16 is the Prime Day offer to beat. See at Amazon

Early Prime Day gaming laptop deals from $690 — RTX 50-series just got more affordable

Prime Day couldn't arrive at a better time, as the latest gaming laptops rocking RTX 50-series power are well and truly here — and I've already found some major price cuts. With Amazon's big sales event due to kick off soon, there's still time for deals to roll in. However, you can already find discounts on plenty of powerful, gamer-ready machines, including this RTX 4070-powered Acer Predator Helios Neo 14 with a $300 drop. But it's not just at Amazon. In fact, you can save big on the latest Nvidia offerings, such as this HP Omen Transcend 14 with an RTX 5060 that's $350 off, and an Alienware 16X Aurora with an RTX 5070 that's plummeted by $450. I've been scouting around for epic discounts on the latest and greatest, and these are deals I'd be jumping on. But there are many more worth checking if you're after a PC upgrade, and even more epic price cuts will start piling in soon (we'll keep you in the loop). So, be kind to your wallet and find the best early Prime Day gaming laptop for you. This HP Omen Transcend 14 gaming laptop rocks a 120Hz 2.8K (2880 x 1800) OLED display, an Intel Core Ultra 7 255H CPU, and an Nvidia GeForce RTX 5060 laptop GPU. You also get 32GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD for storage, all squeezed into a thin RGB-studded laptop decked out in HP's Shadow Black color scheme. Quite possibly the best deal I've found on an RTX 5070 gaming laptop, this Alienware 16X Aurora delivers value in spades now that it's $450 off, equipped with an Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX CPU, Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 GPU, 32GB of DDR5 RAM and a sizeable 2TB SSD. Thanks to its 16-inch WQXGA (2560 x 1600) 240Hz display, you'll see the might and speedy performance of its specs in full view, too. The RTX 5070 Ti brings that much more power to even the most demanding PC games, and this Lenovo Legion Pro 7i can handle it. With its Intel Core i9-275HX CPU, 32GB of RAM and 2TB of storage, too, this machine is ready to blaze through titles in a stylish, compact design. And they will all run great on its 16-inch (2560 x 1600) 240Hz OLED display. Even an RTX 5080 is getting a discount! We're mightily impressed with the HP Omen Max 16, and with its Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX CPU, RTX 5080 power, gorgeous 16-inch OLED display with a 240Hz refresh rate and sleek (yet hefty) design, you will be, too. Now that it's $360 off, you're getting a lot of power for less. Another Lenovo Legion Pro 7i, but this time with the might of an RTX 5090! It's a top-of-the-line gaming laptop thanks to its high-end GPU, but you can also expect incredible horsepower from its Intel Core i9-275HX CPU, 32GB of RAM and 2TB of storage. Pricey? Yes, but more affordable with its $400 price cut. Despite its more budget appeal, I was impressed by what the Acer Nitro V 15 could manage when I tested it out, especially for entry-level gaming. This model comes with an RTX 4050 and an AMD Ryzen 5 7535HS CPU, along with 8GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD. For entry-level PC titles and competitive multiplayer games, this is a great shout for under $700. And its 15.6-inch FHD (1920 x 1080) 144Hz display makes games look smooth. For great entry-level 1080p gameplay, you can't go wrong with this Asus TUF Gaming A16, especially now that it's down to just under $800. It rocks an AMD Ryzen 7 7735HS processor, a Radeon RX7700S GPU, 16GB of DDR5 RAM and 512GB of storage. Don't expect high-level performance, but with its 16-inch WUXGA (1920 x 1200) display with a 165Hz refresh rate thrown in, you could do far worse at this price. For even more power, this Acer Nitro V 16 with an RTX 4060 will do the trick. It comes with an AMD Ryzen 7 8845HS CPU, 16GB of DDR5 RAM and a 1TB SSD, along with a 16-inch WUXGA (1920 x 1200) IPS display with a 165Hz refresh rate and 16:10 aspect ratio to make games shine. This gaming laptop is a fantastic value at its current discounted price, featuring an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 GPU, Intel Core i7-13620H CPU, 16GB of DDR5 RAM, and a 1TB SSD. It has the power to run top PC games smoothly on its 16-inch QHD+ 165Hz display. As another gaming laptop that can pump out wicked gaming performance in a sleek design, the Acer Predator Helios Neo 14 is now $300 off. You can expect an Intel Core Ultra 9 185H processor, an RTX 4070 GPU, 16GB of DDR5 RAM and a 1TB SSD. All PC games will look buttery smooth on its 14.5-inch WQXGA+ (2880 x 1800) IPS display with a 165Hz refresh rate. Boasting mid-range value at its finest, the Gigabyte Aorus 16X still manages to pull its weight today. That's thanks to its Intel Core i7-14650HX CPU, RTX 4070 GPU, 32GB of DDR5 RAM and 1TB SSD, along with its premium-looking design. Plus, its 16-inch WQXGA (2560 x 1600) display with a 165Hz refresh rate and 3ms response rate makes for speedy, smooth visuals.

Don't wait for Prime Day: Alienware's new RTX 5070 laptop just got a huge $450 price cut

If you've been looking for a chance to jump on an RTX 5070 gaming laptop for less, you won't have to wait for Prime Day anymore. Not when Alienware's latest machine is now cheaper than ever. The Alienware 16X Aurora is now $450 off at Best Buy, making it the best RTX 5070 laptop deal I've found now that it's down to $1,649. Last week, I spotted its 16 Aurora sibling for an all-new low, and it looks like Alienware is continuing that trend with this absolute powerhouse. The RTX 5070 GPU is already a strong start, but this machine also boasts the latest Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX CPU, 32GB of DDR5 RAM and a whopping 2TB SSD. Having all that for well under $2,000 is a steal for anyone after the latest in gaming performance, and Prime Day will have to work hard to beat that cost. This Alienware 16X Aurora delivers value in spades now that it's $450 off, equipped with an Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX CPU, Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 GPU, 32GB of DDR5 RAM and a sizeable 2TB SSD. Thanks to its 16-inch WQXGA (2560 x 1600) 240Hz display, you'll see the might and speedy performance of its specs in full view, too. It seems Best Buy is having a field day with its selection of RTX 50-series gaming laptops deals lately, including this HP Omen Transcend 14 with an RTX 5070 that dropped to $1,700. But this Alienware 16X Aurora takes the cake. Now $450 off, you're getting a 16-inch beast sporting the latest specs on the market. That includes an Intel Core Ultra 9 Series 2 chip and Nvidia's latest mid-range GPU that offers plenty of horsepower to blaze through the latest AAA games. And I'm talking frame rates at over 200 FPS, like I've seen when testing the Asus TUF Gaming A18 with an RTX 5070. If that performance is anything to go by, you can expect frame rates to exceed 200 FPS in games like Cyberpunk 2077 and Doom: The Dark Ages. That's all on High settings at 1200p with Nvidia DLSS 4. Even better, it offers a 16-inch WQXGA (2560 x 1600) 240Hz display, meaning it can handle the high frame rates it's able to pump out. Throw in its 32GB of DDR5 RAM and 2TB for storage, and you can see why this gaming laptop has a lot to offer at this price. I've even seen RTX 4060 laptops, including the Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 for $1,599 and Lenovo Legion 7i for $1,699, for around the same price. Oh, and they come with 16GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD, so you're essentially getting double the specs. The Alienware 16X Aurora only just arrived in May, but it's already at this steep discount. It features a new look for the Dell gaming brand's usual offerings, featuring a slimmer, more portable design and a cooler on the bottom that sucks cool air in from under the laptop and pushes it from the back and sides. So, less of a juggernaut and more of a sleek machine! The deal won't last long, so if you're eager to upgrade to the latest in gaming laptops, now is a very good chance to grab one for less. Of course, there are more Prime Day laptop deals to check out, and even more to come during the big event, and we'll be keeping you in the loop for the best discounts to grab.

Exclusive: Maingear just dropped a monster RTX 5090 gaming laptop with up to 192GB RAM

Maingear just revealed its new 18-inch gaming laptop equipped with an Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 GPU, and it can come with a staggering 192GB of RAM. The Ultima 18 is Maingear's most powerful laptop to date, made in collaboration with manufacturer Clevo. Aimed at power users, this desktop replacement boasts an Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX, RTX 5090 or RTX 5080 and an 18-inch 4K (3840 x 2400) display with a 200Hz display. It's clearly a beast, but the real kicker is that it can be outfitted with up to 192GB of DDR5 RAM and 4x M.2 NVMe SSDs. With the power it packs under the hood, the Ultima 18 is set to cruise through load times and crush multitasking for both productivity and gaming. The Ultima 18 is available at Maingear's official store starting at $3,599, both in pre-configured and customizable models. It's already giving best gaming laptop vibes, so let's dive into the details. We've seen some powerful RTX 5090 gaming rigs so far, including the $6,700 MSI Titan 18 HX, but Maingear's new Ultima 18 gaming laptop takes it up a notch with its customizable specs. Maingear Ultima 18 Price From $3,599 Display 18-inch 4K (3840 x 2400), 200Hz, 16:10 aspect ratio CPU Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX GPU Up to Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 RAM Up to 192GB DDR5 (4x 48GB) Storage Up to 4x M.2 NVMe SSDs Battery 98Wh (330W charger) Ports 2x USB-A( 1x with PD), 2x Thunderbolt 5, 2x 2.5Gb LAN, 1x HDMI2.1, 1x microSD Connectivity Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4 Weight 8.8 pounds On paper, this is one of the most powerful laptops I've seen, and at its highest configuration, it's sure to cost a pretty penny. However, as with the Maingear ML-16, the Ultima 18 can be customized to the user's liking. So, of course, if you don't need anywhere near 192GB of DDR5 RAM, you can shave off some memory. Otherwise, there are a few fixtures that still make it a powerful desktop replacement. That includes the Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX CPU, plenty of useful ports that include dual Thunderbolt 5 slots, a 98Wh battery to give its internals enough juice and even the latest Wi-Fi 7 connectivity. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. It also comes equipped with a massive 18-inch 4K display with a 200Hz refresh rate and a response time of less than 7ms. Many newly released gaming laptops offer displays with up to 240Hz and sub-3ms response rates, like the Alienware 16 Area-51 and Asus ROG Strix Scar 18, but the Ultima 18's 4K resolution with a 16:10 aspect ratio should present gorgeous visuals. Plus, it also supports Nvidia G-Sync to manage screen tearing. Judging from its size (to be confirmed) and weight (8.8 pounds), this is a laptop you'll want planted on your desk rather than open up at a café. But the Ultima 18 is built to be a desktop replacement. 'Ultima 18 isn't just a laptop, it's a no-compromise desktop-class gaming rig that fits in a backpack,' states Wallace Santos, CEO of Maingear. 'We've engineered this notebook to handle the latest AAA games, creative workloads, and AI-driven applications with headroom to spare. From the raw horsepower to the fine details, this system embodies everything our gamers expect from a premium Maingear gaming system.' The amount of RAM and storage it can pack is what makes this a beast. It supports modern dual-channel DDR5 memory and PCIe Gen 5 SSDs, with the highest configuration allowing for 4x 48GB memory along with 1x Gen 5x4 and 3x Gen 4x4 SSDs. As for what else it comes equipped with, the Ultima 18 features a customizable per-key RGB keyboard with a dedicated Copilot key. There are also five speakers with two drivers, two tweeters and a subwoofer that's powered by a Sound Blaster Studio Pro 2 audio system, along with a 5MP Windows Hello camera. Maingear also states the Ultima 18 is free of bloatware (hoorah!) and its Control Center, where users can swap performance modes, customize per-key RGB lighting, adjust fan profiles and assign macros. There are some powerful gaming laptops out there, but Maingear's Ultima 18 looks to bring the heat. We'll see how this monster performs once we get our hands on it, but in the meantime, check out how this RTX 5090 Corsair gaming PC measures up.
