Lebanon: Security officer killed in clash with armed suspects in Tripoli

Shafaq News – Tripoli A Lebanese security officer was killed and two others injured during a raid on armed suspects in northern Lebanon, local media reported on Saturday. The confrontation reportedly broke out on Al-Miatein Street in Tripoli as Internal Security Forces from the Information Branch stormed an apartment to apprehend wanted men. Several suspects were detained during the operation. A security source quoted by Al-Joumhouria newspaper described the detainees as militants plotting a large-scale attack, tying their plans to the recent Mar Elias Church bombing in Damascus and wider regional tensions involving Israel. On June 22, a suicide bombing at Mar Elias Church killed 25 people and wounded dozens, with the jihadist group Saraya Ansar al-Sunna later claiming responsibility.

Israel-Iran conflict: NCP's Supriya Sule calls for de-escalation, peace

Pune (Maharashtra) [India], June 23 (ANI): Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) MP Supriya Sule on Monday called for de-escalation and peace amid the ongoing conflict between Iran and Israel. Speaking to ANI, Sule said, 'The whole world, geopolitics is in a crisis, whichever side you are. I think we should all urge de-escalation and peace. It's all very alarming; the less we speak, the more we hear. Sule emphasised that the Indian government has already intervened and is seeking de-escalation. 'The Government of India has intervened and is asking for de-escalation. The only way forward is de-escalation,' she stated. Meanwhile, former Foreign Secretary Shyam Saran echoed similar sentiments, highlighting the need for India to play a bigger role in shaping a new world order. 'I hope that in the days to come, the wisdom of India is brought to bear on this kind of situation and that we play a bigger role as we can in terms of the making of a new world order,' Saran said. Saran expressed concerns about the current global disorder, noting that norms of interstate relations have been abandoned. 'Instead of a global order, we have great global disorder,' he stated. 'The kind of human suffering that has resulted, for example, in Gaza, what may happen, for example, in Iran, so these are very troubled times, and India also faces a very challenging situation.' These statements came after the US joined the conflict between Israel and Iran and bombed Iran's three underground nuclear facilities. Earlier in the day, Israeli Air Force fighter jets carried out strikes on command centres and assets belonging to the Internal Security Forces and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in Tehran, Iran, the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) said in a statement. As part of the operation, the headquarters of the Basij were targeted. The Basij is identified as one of the IRGC's central armed bases of power and is responsible for enforcing Islamic law and reporting civilians who violate it to regime authorities. Additionally, the Alborz Corps--tasked with securing several cities in the Tehran District and ensuring the regime's stability--was struck, along with the Intelligence and General Security Police under the Internal Security Forces, which the IDF described as integral components of the regime's military forces. 'These command centres have a significant military effect and additionally they impact the regime's ability to impose control,' the IDF stated, adding that the strikes harmed the Iranian regime's military capabilities. Building on the outcome of these strikes, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed the developments, stating on Sunday that Israel is 'very close' to achieving its goals in Iran. He claimed significant damage had been inflicted on Iran's ballistic missile program and nuclear facilities, according to The Times of Israel. (ANI)

After US, Israeli Air Force hits core of Iranian regime control in Tehran

Israeli Air Force fighter jets struck command centres and assets in Tehran tasked with holding the Iranian regime's grip on power, the Israel Defence Forces said on Monday. The targets included various branches of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) and the Internal Security Forces, which were involved in defending homeland security, suppressing threats, and maintaining the regime's stability. "These command centres have a significant military effect, and additionally, they impact the regime's ability to impose control. Striking these military targets harms the Iranian regime's military capabilities," the IDF said. As part of the strike, the headquarters of the Basij, one of the IRGC's central armed bases of power, was targeted. Alongside its other functions, the Basij is also responsible for enforcing the Islamic law and reporting civilians who violate it to the regime authorities, Israel said. Also hit was the command centre of the IRGC's Thar-Allah, designated to defend Tehran from security and internal threats. The Alborz Corps, responsible for the security of several cities in the Tehran District, was struck, along with the Intelligence and General Security Police under the Internal Security Forces, the Israeli military said. Additionally, the "Sayyed al-Shuhada" Corps was struck. Subordinate to the IRG, the "Sayyed al-Shuhada" Corps is responsible for homeland defence and the suppression of internal threats. The IDF also struck the General Intelligence Directorate of the Internal Security forces, which is responsible for supervising the employees of the internal security wing and overseeing the supervision and control of information and media of the organisation. The IDF also confirmed striking access roads to the Fordow nuclear facility, which was severely damaged by US strikes on Saturday night. Defence Minister Israel Katz said the Air Force was hitting "regime targets and government repression bodies in the heart of Tehran." He added, "For every shot at the Israeli home front, the Iranian dictator will be punished and the attacks will continue with full force." Katz confirmed a strike on Tehran's notorious Evin Prison, which is known for holding political dissidents, human rights activists, journalists and foreigners accused of espionage. Iran's missile attacks have killed 24 people and injured over than 1,300. The Israel Tax Authority has received more than 25,000 damage claims related to buildings. Israel launched preemptive strikes against Iranian nuclear sites on June 13, citing intelligence that Tehran had reached "a point of no return" in its pursuit of nuclear weapons. According to Israeli defence officials, Iran has developed the capacity to rapidly enrich uranium and assemble nuclear bombs, with sufficient fissile material for up to 15 weapons. Israeli intelligence also exposed a covert program to complete all components of a nuclear device. The strikes marked a dramatic escalation in what officials describe as a broader Iranian strategy combining nuclear development, missile proliferation, and proxy warfare aimed at Israel's destruction.
