Cardi B Unveils Cover Art And Release Date For Highly Anticipated Sophomore Album
The wait for Cardi B's long-awaited second album is almost over after the Grammy-winning emcee announced the LP's title, cover art, and release date on Monday (June 23). Bardi's sophomore album, Am I the Drama?, is slated for release on Sept. 19. The day prior, the rapper teased the announcement on Instagram. 'Seven years and the time has come. Seven years of love, light and loss,' Cardi stated in the visualizer. 'Seven years I gave them grace, but now I give them hell. I learned power's not given; it's taken. I'm shedding feathers and no more tears. I'm not back; I'm beyond. I'm not your villain; I'm your karma. The time is here. The time is now.' The 23-track LP will include previously released hits, 'WAP,' and 'Up' as well as Cardi's latest drop, 'Outside.' After the rapstress already blamed the extensive delay on her collaborators, SZA quipped in the comments of the album announcement, 'Lemme send this verse chile.' Back in May, a frustrated Cardi said on social media, 'I really need these f**king features and it's like I'm not really trying to press or go crazy on these artists because I love them down. But it's like come on now! I need that! […] I really need y'all and I need y'all to hurry up and I love y'all. I feel like nobody want to miss being on this album.' Her debut LP, Invasion Of Privacy, produced two Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 hits and a Grammy for Best Rap Album. Every track is also at least certified platinum by the RIAA. Cardi B season is here. The Bronx bombshell finally announced plans for her long-awaited sophomore album, Am I the Drama?, which will arrive on Sept. 19. 'Seven years and the time has come. Seven years of love, light and loss,' Cardi said in the clip. 'Seven years I gave them grace, but now I give them hell. I learned power's not giving, it's taking. I'm shedding feathers and no more tears. I'm not back, I'm beyond. I'm not your villain, I'm your karma. The time is here. The time is now.' Cardi put the rap world on notice with her ineffable Invasion of Privacy album in 2018, which netted her two Billboard Hot 100 No. 1s (she now has a total of five) and went on to win best rap album at the 2019 Grammy Awards. Every track from her debut is at least certified platinum by the RIAA. The album comes on the heels of Cardi dropping her thumping 'Outside' single on Friday (June 19), setting the stage for the LP, which also includes smash hits 'Up' and 'WAP' on the 23-track LP. It's been a long road for Cardi B and the Bardi Gang to her sophomore effort. Back in May, she chalked up waiting on verses from guests for the delay. 'I really need these f–king features,' she said in a repost of the Spaces. 'And it's like I'm not really trying to press or go crazy on these artists because I love them down. But it's like come on now! I need that! I need that right now! Helloooo! Y'all don't want to miss this opportunity. I'll sing this s–t myself! But I really need y'all and I need y'all to hurry up and I love y'all. I feel like nobody want to miss being on this album.' After filing for divorce from Offset last August, Cardi B is entering a new chapter of her life as she's currently in a relationship with NFL star Stefon Diggs. With a release date set for Sept. 19, the countdown to Am I the Drama? is on. Cardi B Is Done Being Humble: The Sophomore Album Is Called Am I the Drama? and Baby, She Absolutely Is
Oh, you thought she was done? You thought she peaked with Invasion of Privacy. Baby, Belcalis Almanzar aka Cardi B aka Ms. Grammy Winner If You're Nasty just reminded the world that she's not your friend, she's your tyrant. And after seven long, drama-drenched years, she's finally back with the follow-up album we've all been begging for. Mark your calendars, girls and gays: Am I the Drama? drops September 19. And yes, mama, she absolutely is. Cardi B's 'Am I The Drama?' has already joined her own 'Invasion of Privacy' as the only female rap albums in history to spawn multiple #1 hits on the Billboard Hot 100. Invasion of Privacy dropped in 2018 and promptly snatched a Grammy for Best Rap Album. It was the first solo female rap album to ever do that. Iconic. Historic. Unmatched. Since then, Cardi has been feeding us crumbs, granted, delicious ones. 'WAP,' 'Up,' 'Money,' and 'Bongos' stayed in rotation, not to mention collabs with everyone from Lizzo to Ye (before he lost his mind) to your problematic fave, Ed Sheeran. But a second full-length album? A mirage. A myth. A whisper in the wind. Until now. On Sunday, Cardi said bitch, it's time. She dropped the album title, the drop date, and the cover art like a mic at the end of a diss track. The cover? Oh, just Cardi casually posing with a flock of crows like she's the final boss in a gothic fashion RPG. Black veil. Feathers. Face beat to heaven. And that title? Am I the Drama? Please. She knew exactly what she was doing. 'Seven years of love, life and loss. Seven years I gave them grace, but now, I give them hell,' she says in the voiceover of her dramatic announcement clip, which is giving Shakespeare meets strip-club realness. She continues, 'I learned power is not given, it's taken. I'm shedding feathers and no more tears. I'm not back, I'm beyond. I'm not your villain, I'm your tyrant.' Let the church say AMEN. Cardi ain't just talking. She's already giving us a taste of the chaos to come. Her new single 'Outside,' which premiered at the ultra bougie Cannes Lions festival, dropped Friday and sis did not come to play polite. First of all, she took a lyrical machete to ex-husband Offset (again). No subliminals, no coy metaphors, she named names and aired the mess. And just in case you were wondering if she's lonely, think again. Cardi also name-drops Stefon Diggs, New England Patriots wide receiver and her new certified boo. A stunt. A flex. A lifestyle. At Cannes, Cardi reminded everybody why she is the culture. She opened with 'Bongos' (the twerk anthem with Megan Thee Stallion that we're still recovering from), and then proceeded to unleash an avalanche of hits: 'Bodak Yellow,' 'I Like It,' 'Money,' 'Up,' and of course, 'WAP' the wettest, wildest, most politically triggering piece of music this decade. Say what you want about Cardi, but her stage presence is unmatched. She doesn't just perform, she dominates. Now, let's not pretend there hasn't been chatter, and I do mean beef. Cardi's been under pressure from critics, stans, and that one particular fanbase who shall not be named (rhymes with Barbz). People have questioned her pen, her artistry, her relevance. And for seven years, she smiled. She giggled. She let y'all think she was slipping. But Cardi B is from the Bronx, baby. She never forgets. This album isn't just about music, it's revenge, rebirth, and a royal serve on a platinum platter. And if the title Am I the Drama? is any clue, this era is going to be messier, louder, and even more unbothered than the last. Cardi isn't dropping this album to fit in. She's dropping it to remind everyone who invented the modern female rap blueprint. She's got the industry shook, the timeline buzzing, and the rap girls scrambling to update their notes. If you thought Cardi was going to play nice, stay quiet, or fade away, then baby, you must've mistaken her for someone who doesn't have millions, a diamond plaque, and a Chanel-coded death grip on pop culture.
