McInnes wants the 25-year-old in during this window but concedes he might have to look at a plan B if January becomes his arrival date. He said: 'The recruitment team are due to speak to Islam, he's signed the pre-contract. 'Their season runs on to September so we're not fully in charge of that situation. 'His team are not wanting to lose him at this stage of the season because they are in the business end of theirs. 'I have said to the club I'd like him in as quickly as possible if we can find a solution. 'I had a good chat with Islam last Wednesday. 'We have a plan to deal with it, if we get him great, if we don't we will maybe just look to bring him in in January instead. 'We are trying to be as patient as we can but ideally we'd get him in this window.' Meanwhile, thousands of Sunderland fans are expected to descend on Edinburgh for Craig Gordon's testimonial next month. Robbie Neilson Released by Rangers, finding a home at Hearts, and splitting the Old Firm The newly-promoted Premier League club will face the Jambos on July 26 to honour their former goalkeeper. Scotland star Gordon, 42, moved to the Black Cats in a record £9million deal back in 2007. It was the highest fee a British club had ever paid for a goalkeeper and remains to this day the record sale for a Scottish club outwith Rangers and Celtic. Sunderland have been allocated 3,185 tickets for the Tynecastle clash. Keep up to date with ALL the latest news and transfers at the Scottish Sun football page

The winger is one of a few players the Jambos are looking at this summer. Wideman Daniel Arzani is also on the radar as he comes out of contract at Melbourne Victory while head coach Derek McInnes wants to reunite with defender Stuart Findlay, who he worked with at Kilmarnock. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Hearts have been linked with a move for the Kazakhstan international since the winter transfer period but nothing was agreed with his club, FC Tobol. They have already been busy in the market and are set to do more business over the course of the window. Hearts transfer target on his future After playing in Kazakhstan's 1-0 defeat to North Macedonia in a World Cup qualifier this week, Chesnokov was too despondent to discuss the transfer links in depth, but admitted he was none the wiser to whether he would become a Hearts player or not. Chesnokov has been capped 13 times by Kazakhstan and scored his first goals for his country with a double during victory over San Marino in 2024. He said: 'I don't want to comment any more about Hearts right now. Nothing is confirmed. If something happens, I am sure it will be announced. Right now, I am too disappointed and upset about this loss to talk about my future.' The player's representative, Yaroslav Zvarych, spoke to the Evening News in January as negotiations with Hearts emerged. 'There is interest from Hearts. We are currently in the process of deciding many things because we have a lot of offers,' he said. 'Islam is one of the most talented players in Kazakhstan and we are working on the next step with the transfer window open. We are currently in the stage of negotiations over the offer from Hearts. They are interested and we do speak with them. We are moving forward with them already. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Hearts interest in Islam Chesnokov 'Islam is a very interesting player who is extremely talented. He has a powerful left foot, a powerful shot and he does a big volume of work. He would be very suitable for Scottish football. He is very technical and he has established himself as one of the best players in Kazakhstan. He is a right-winger, more of an inverted winger who likes to go into the middle.' He's not the only winger to address transfer links this week. Arzani said while on duty with Australia: 'I think anyone now, any of the boys looking to move or off contract, that thought process will be in their head. It's a big deal, a World Cup. It's massive. Everyone wants to be a part of it. It is going to be really competitive and we have a lot of talent coming out of Australia as well. I think it is definitely important that if I go somewhere that I'll be playing week in, week out. I'm not sure what I am doing yet, what direction I am heading in but that's definitely part of the equation."

Shankland offered new deal as three signings close
Hearts chief executive Andrew McKinlay has admitted the Edinburgh club "got it wrong" when appointing Neil Critchley as head coach and has revealed that a new contract offer has been made to 29-year-old striker Lawrence Shankland. (Sky Sports) Hearts sporting director Graeme Jones says contract discussions with Lawrence Shankland will have a cut-off point but says they are ongoing and he is still hopeful they will be able to retain the club captain. (Edinburgh Evening News) Hearts are close to signing Alexandros Kyziridis, the 24-year-old Greek winger who is out of contract this summer with Zemplin Michalovce, hope to agree a deal for 25-year-old Kazakhstan forward Islam Chesnokov before his contract with Tobol ends in October, while Belgian striker Elton Kabangu's loan move from Union Saint-Gilloise is set to be made permanent for a fee in the region of £250,000. (Edinburgh Evening News) Sporting director Graeme Jones says he and Derek McInnes will add the "human" element of decision making over new signings to make sure any players earmarked by the Jamestown Analytics talent scouting system fit the new head coach's style of play. more new signings arriving in Edinburgh
Business is stepping up at Tynecastle Sign up to our Hearts newsletter Sign up Thank you for signing up! Learn More Sorry, there seem to be some issues. Please try again later. Submitting... Hearts are in the process of finalising transfer deals for two players with possibly a third to follow. Derek McInnes took charge as head coach at Tynecastle Park yesterday, and club officials are working to complete key signings ahead of next season. The Greek winger Alexandros Kyziridis and Kazakhstan internationalist Islam Chesnokov are both in the final stages of negotiations. Kyziridis has already visited Edinburgh and his move from the Slovakian club Zemplín Michalovce is close. He is out of contract this summer and Tynecastle officials made an approach hoping to bring him to Scotland. The 24-year-old is comfortable on the left flank but can also operate on the right or through the middle. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Hearts also held detailed talks with the Kazakhstan international winger Islam Chesnokov with a view to a pre-contract deal. The finer details of his transfer from Tobol Kostanay are still being discussed. Hearts want to avoid him arriving once his Tobol contract expires in October as he could not be registered with the Scottish Football Association until the January window opened. The prospect of a quick summer deal is still alive. Belgian striker Elton Kabangu's loan move from Union Saint-Gilloise is to be made permanent. Hearts are to pay a fee in the region of £250,000 to Union, with Kabangu expected to sign a three-year contract to continue his career in maroon. He arrived on loan in January in an agreeent which included the option of a permanent transfer. Norwegian right-back Christian Borchgrevink already has a pre-contract deal in place to move to Tynecastle for season 2025/26. Hearts also intend to strengthen their midfield and have identified a number of potential targets in that position. McInnes will assess and alter the rest of the squad as he sees fit over the coming weeks, with a number of departures expected. Hearts confirmed that winger Barrie McKay and midfielder Jorge Grant would leave at the end of the season with their contracts expiring. Goalkeeper Craig Gordon and captain Lawrence Shankland have been offered new deals. Hearts transfers explained as new signings are lined up at Tynecastle The Hearts chief executive Andrew McKinlay spoke exclusively to the Edinburgh News about to explain transfer issues as things stand. 'Some of it does depend on who goes out and Derek shares this view: The squad is a bit bloated at the moment. It's a bit too big,' admitted McKinlay. 'We have some players out of contract but not that many. Others who are more on the periphery, you would like to move on. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad 'We are already close to announcing some other signings. It's always a risk in football when you bring people in before others go out. That's always quite nervy from a board perspective. We are comfortable with the direction we are heading in. Hopefully, by the time the window is closing, we will have the squad size we want and the quality of player that we want.' Asked specifically about Kyziridis and Chesnokov, McKinlay replied: 'We are hoping to say something very soon on that. That will be exciting. I think everyone knows that one of Derek's preferred styles is to have good wingers. Those two are both wide players. We hope to say something quite positive very soon on at least one of those players.' He also elaborated on Kabangu's situation. 'Kabangu is a slightly different one. The situation is an option and we believe we will be able to say something positive very soon on that. There are just a couple of things we need to iron out but I don't see any issues on that one.' Borchgrevink is leaving the Norwegian club Valerenga and will report to Riccarton for pre-season training next month. 'Yes, we have already got him and there are others we have been speaking to,' said McKinlay. 'Those details have been shared with Derek and he is excited about some of them as well. So there are a few more already in the pipeline. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad 'It's fairly obvious where we need to strengthen. Some of it will depend on getting players out. Some of it might be players we sell because we receive good offers, others it might be just that we don't feel they are part of the squad going forward. Sometimes that is easier said than done.'
