The Simpsons fans devastated over Marge's death

The finale sparked outrage with some fans of the long running show revealing Marge's death ruined their day. Fans of The Simpsons say they have been traumatised by Marge Simpson's death scene in an episode of the hit show, exclaiming, "Oh my God, they killed Marge". The season 36 finale sparked outrage with some fans of the long running show revealing Marge's death completely ruined their day. ‌ The episode showed the matriarch being outlived by Homer and Bart and Lisa mourning her passing. ‌ Reactions included: 'OMG THEY KILLED MARGE it's a sad day for us Simpsons lovers', and 'They done killed off Marge?? This world so unhinged'. In season 36 finale Estranger Things, the show flashes forward 35 years into the future to reveal that the Simpsons' matriarch died before her husband Homer. The episode also deals with Lisa and Bart's feelings around the loss, while showing Marge looking down on them from heaven. In the episode written by Tim Long and directed by Matthew Nastuk, Bart and Lisa are seen drifting apart as they stop watching 'Itchy & Scratchy' together. They agree to maintain their relationship, but drift apart after Marge dies. Years later, Lisa is commissioner of the NBA and Bart is running an unlicensed retirement home where Homer lives. Bart and Lisa are still estranged when she comes home to make a speech at Springfield Elementary — but after she discovers a video Marge made urging them to look after each other, they reestablish their bond. Marge, meanwhile, is watching this happen from heaven — while carrying on an affair with Ringo Starr. ‌ While many have pointed out the death happens in the future, and so not in the current Simpsons timeline, the impact was felt by fans on X (formerly Twitter). 'You just ruined my day' one poster said, before adding: 'I guess I'll only watch the first 35 Seasons so Marge Simpson can live forever." ‌ One fan questioned: 'Why couldn't it be Patty or Selma?', while another compared it to another animated comedy. 'Taking a page out of Family Guy where they killed Brian' the user wrote. Despite the death of Marge, producers have reassured fans of the show that she will be around for a long time to come. Executive producer Matt Selman said: 'Obviously since the The Simpsons' future episodes are all speculative fantasies, they're all different every time. Marge will probably never be dead ever again. The only place Marge is dead is in one future episode that aired six weeks ago.' ‌ The animated sitcom created by Matt Groening first aired as a short on the Tracy Ullman Show in 1987 before being developed into a half-hour series of episodes two years later. In all there have been 790 episodes of the show which satirises American family values.

Is Marge Simpson dead in The Simpsons? Season 36 Finale delivers shocking twist

The Simpsons Season 36 finale titled Estranger Things, has stunned by revealing the future death of Marge Simpson, the iconic matriarch of the most famous animated family. The episode skips ahead 35 years, showing Bart and Lisa in their 40s, estranged after their mother's death—though no details are given about how or when she dies. Despite the time jump, Marge is confirmed to be dead in this projected timeline, marking the first time a flashforward episode has depicted the permanent loss of a core Simpson family member. A tearful reunion and one final Itchy & Scratchy In the future, Bart runs an unlicensed retirement home while Lisa is a successful professional. The episode explores how their relationship has fractured in adulthood, but they reconnect after discovering a posthumous video message from Marge. Her heartfelt plea urges them to look after each other—and their aging father Homer, who is about to be sent to a dystopian nursing facility in Florida that functions more like a prison. Moved by her words, the siblings reconcile and rescue Homer, ending the episode by bonding once again over an old episode of Itchy & Scratchy—the cartoon that once brought them together as kids. The emotional twist is the latest in a long line of clever narrative stunts from the long-running series, which has often used flashforwards, dream sequences, and alternate realities to keep things fresh across its three-decade run. So fans can rest easy—for now. Marge is still very much alive in the present-day continuity, and The Simpsons has already been renewed for a 37th season, airing in late 2025.

Sarah McLachlan parodies her ‘Toy Story 2' song in season finale of ‘The Simpsons'

TORONTO - Sarah McLachlan's taste for poking fun at herself has made its way onto 'The Simpsons.' The long-running animated series marked its season finale on Sunday night with a darkly comedic version of 'When She Loved Me,' a song she originally recorded for 'Toy Story 2.' The new version plays over a scene inspired by Itchy & Scratchy, who in the episode have launched a line of merchandise for babies, which leaves Bart and Lisa feeling like they've outgrown the violent cartoon franchise. After Marge places the toys on the curbside, a montage unfolds of the siblings' shared memories with the cat and mouse duo, as McLachlan muses about how 'blood would flow, but also so would love.' The original 'When She Loved Me' was written by Randy Newman for the Toy Story 2 soundtrack and played over a scene of Emily's memories after she parted with her Jessie the cowgirl doll. Newman and McLachlan performed the composition together at the Academy Awards in 2000 when it was nominated for best original song. The new version is much darker, with McLachlan warmly singing: 'They laugh at all our violence and horrors quite unsuitable for children as guts rain from above.' The Halifax-born singer posted a clip on her Instagram and wrote: 'The parody song you never saw coming… still kinda heartbreaking, no?' It's not the first time McLachlan has joked about her weepy ballads and their cultural impact. She's parodied her 1998 song 'Angel,' and its use in an animal-rights fundraising campaign several times, including in a sketch for the Juno Awards and a Super Bowl beer commercial. This report by The Canadian Press was first published May 20, 2025.

‘The Simpsons' finally reveal who will voice Milhouse character next

There's a new voice in Springfield. After voice actor Pamela Hayden retired in November after 35 years on 'The Simpsons,' singer Kelly Macleod will be taking over the one and only blue-haired Milhouse Van Houten. The singer is set to make her debut during Sunday's season finale 'Estranger Things,' Entertainment Weekly reports. 6 Bart Simpson (voice: Nancy Cartwright), Milhouse Van Houten (voice: Pamela Hayden), Lisa Simpson (voice: Yeardley Smith) on 'The Simpsons.' ©20thCentFox/Courtesy Everett Collection The episode's official synopsis reads: 'When Bart & Lisa stop watching Itchy & Scratchy together, Marge fears that they'll start to drift apart… but she has no idea how bad things are about to get!' Despite Milhouse only having one line in the episode, she is no stranger to the long running sitcom. In 2022, Macleod appeared on 'The Simpsons' during Season 33, episode 15 titled 'Bart the Cool Kid.' 6 Milhouse Van Houten and Bart Simpson. ©20thCentFox/Courtesy Everett Collection 6 Milhouse Van Houten, voiced by Pamela Hayden. ©20thCentFox/Courtesy Everett Collection In the episode — which also starred The Weeknd and Michael Rapaport — the musician sang the song 'Two Badges, One Mind.' Macleod's music career kicked off in the rock band Private Life, with the group's 1990 song 'Touch Me' being featured in two films. The single was on the soundtrack of both 1992's 'Wayne's World' and 1990's 'Gremlins 2: The New Batch.' Additionally, she's performed with The Sweet Potatoes band for a decade, and released her first solo album 'Wide Open' in 2021. 6 Kelly Breznik Macleod. Macleod also has an acting credit, appearing in the 2009 short film 'Slice of Pie.' Hayden, 71, meanwhile announced she was retiring from the Fox sitcom with a touching tribute to her character. 'It's been an honor and a joy to have worked on such a funny, witty, and groundbreaking show, and to give voice to Milhouse (and Jimbo Jones, Rod Flanders, Janey, Malibu Stacy, and many others),' she shared at the time. 6 Kelly Breznik Macleod poses on Instagram. 'Here's to everyone who made this terrific ride I've been on possible,' Hayden continued. 'P.S. I'll always have a special place in my heart for that blue-haired 10-year-old boy with glasses.' 'The Simpsons' has run for 36 seasons since its 1989 debut. 'How many actors can say they've worked on a show for 35 years straight?' Hayden told Variety in November. 'That alone is amazing. But it was time for me to devote my time to other creative endeavors that I have, like filmmaking. It was a tough decision, but I feel like it was the right one.' 6 Pamela Hayden attends Kash Hovey And Friends At Film Fest LA At LA Live 2023 at Regal LA Live on November 18, 2023 in Los Angeles, California. Prior to 'The Simpsons,' she worked on 'Hey Arnold,' 'Pinky and the Brain,' 'The New Batman Adventures' and 'Recess.' 'It's just not like anything I've ever worked on,' Hayden gushed about the series. 'It's a once-in-a-lifetime job on a once-in-a-lifetime show. But being an actor, I think you're kind of used to taking risks. That's the kind of person I am. I'm not about playing things safe. And there were other things I wanted to do. I think you throw it against the wall and see what sticks.'
