CID files ‘B' report in Suraj Revanna sexual assault case
Bengaluru: In a major development, JD(S) MLC Suraj Revanna has received significant relief in one of the unnatural sexual assault cases filed against him. The Criminal Investigation Department (CID), which was investigating the case, has submitted a 'B' report to the Special Court for Public Representatives, citing lack of sufficient evidence. The case was initially filed based on a complaint by an individual claiming to be a member of 'Brigade Khajanchi', and an FIR was registered at the Holenarasipura Rural Police Station. The CID took over the investigation and found that the evidence was insufficient to proceed with charges in one of the two FIRs filed against Revanna. However, CID has already filed a charge sheet in a separate FIR related to similar allegations. The original complaint dates back to June 22, 2024, when the alleged victim accused Suraj Revanna of sexual misconduct. He was arrested the following day on June 23. The complaint was initially submitted in Hassan district and was later transferred to Holenarasipura Rural Police. Meanwhile, Revanna's associate Shivakumar filed a counter-complaint, alleging blackmail for money. He claimed that the complainant threatened to file a false case unless Rs 5 crore was paid. Following these conflicting claims, the case was handed over to CID. With the 'B' report now filed in one of the cases, Suraj Revanna stands cleared in that instance, while legal proceedings in the other continue.

CID submits closure report in 2024 Suraj Revanna case
The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has submitted a closure report in the unnatural sexual assault case lodged against JD(S) MLC Suraj Revanna, citing a lack of evidence. CID submits closure report in 2024 Suraj Revanna case Suraj, grandson of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda and son of senior JD(S) leader HD Revanna, was accused of sexually assaulting a 27-year-old JD(S) party worker, Chetan KS, at his farmhouse in Ghannikad, Holenarasipur taluk, on June 16, 2024. The case was filed at Holenarasipur police station under Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and other charges. Given the sensitive nature of the allegations and the political profile of those involved, the state government handed over the investigation to the CID. The agency conducted a detailed probe involving witness testimony, forensic evidence collection, and analysis of technical inputs. According to officials, the inquiry did not yield any concrete evidence to support the charges. The report was submitted to the special court on Wednesday. 'We have concluded there was insufficient evidence and filed a 'B report', which is typically submitted when a case lacks prima facie evidence,' CID deputy SP and investigating officer B Umesh told the Special Court for People's Representatives on Wednesday. 'The special court will now decide whether to accept the report. The complainant retains the right to file objections,' he added. The allegations came at a politically vulnerable time for the Revanna family. Suraj's father, HD Revanna, and brother, Prajwal Revanna, then JD(S) MP, are facing separate legal challenges. Moreover, opposition parties seized upon the assault case to question the JD(S) leadership's integrity. Further complicating the case, Suraj Revanna's aide Shivakumar filed a counter-complaint, accusing the original complainant of trying to extort ₹ 5 crore in exchange for withdrawing the charges. Though a court decision on the report is still pending, the CID's findings may help Suraj Revanna navigate immediate legal threats.

No evidence against rape survivor in Suraj Revanna extortion case: CID
Bengaluru: The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has stated that there is no evidence to support the extortion allegations filed against the sexual assault victim in the case involving expelled JD(S) MLC Suraj Revanna. In its B-report submitted to a special court in the city, the CID concluded that the extortion case lacks merit. The case originated last year after a close associate of Suraj Revanna, who is the grandson of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda, lodged a complaint with Holenarasipur town police, alleging that a man was attempting to extort money from Suraj. The accused in that complaint was the same individual who had, just days earlier, filed a rape case against Suraj, accusing him of subjecting him to unnatural sex. Shortly after the man accused Suraj of raping him, a second case was filed by Suraj's henchman, Shiva Kumar. In his complaint, Kumar explained that the complainant was trying to extort Suraj to settle the rape case. However, findings by the CID show that the second case was a stage-managed one. "It is clear that Suraj persuaded his henchman Shiva Kumar to urge the complainant to demand some amount so that the rape case registered against him (Suraj) can be settled," reads the B report submitted to the special court for elected representatives in the city. It accuses Suraj of committing the offence under section 377 (Unnatural sex) of the then Indian Penal Code. According to sources, the chargesheet mainly contains the statements from the survivor and the witnesses corroborated with electronic evidence, thus strengthening the allegations. Suraj was arrested on June 22, 2024, following the complaint made by the survivor with Holenarasipur Rural police. The victim, a 27-year-old male worker of the JD(S), stated in his complaint that "Suraj raped me on June 16, 2024, inside the family's Gannikada farmhouse in Holenarasipur. When I brought the matter to the notice of Shivakumar, the latter asked me to keep quiet and promised a good future with a job and money from Suraj," read the complaint. Shivakumar later filed the attempt- to-extort case against the survivor. Both cases were transferred to the CID. Suraj was lodged in the judicial custody of the Central Prison, Bengaluru, for around a month before walking out on bail in the last week of July.

Rape-accused Prajwal Revanna moves Karnataka high court again for bail in sexual assault case
Former JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna has once again petitioned the Karnataka High Court seeking bail in the ongoing sexual assault and rape case filed against him. His earlier plea was rejected by the court, which cited the seriousness of the allegations and concerns that he might influence or intimidate witnesses. JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna (PTI/File) Also Read - Bengaluru civic body's pothole 'fix' sparks outrage as photos of shoddy repairs go viral At Tuesday's hearing, Senior Advocate Prabhuling K Navadgi, representing Revanna, argued that there had been a notable change in circumstances since the previous ruling. He pointed to the prolonged delays in the trial proceedings as grounds for granting bail and emphasized that procedural lags were beyond Revanna's control. Navadgi also highlighted that the original complaint was registered nearly four years after the alleged incident. He told the court that the survivor had not initially invoked rape charges under Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code. Those charges, he claimed, were included only at the stage of recording her formal statement. According to the defence, Revanna has no intention of hampering the judicial process and continued imprisonment under such conditions would be unjust. The state government, however, strongly contested the bail plea. It argued that the delays in the case were a result of Revanna's actions, not the prosecution's. Government counsel alleged that Revanna had frequently summoned defence witnesses and created disruptions in court, effectively stalling the trial. A lot of discontent in the BJP, no one is happy, says Yatnal
There is a lot of discontent in the BJP in State . No one is happy. The only way to fix it is by removing B.Y. Vijayendra from the post of the State president, Basanagouda R. Patil Yatnal, MLA who was expelled from the BJP, said in Vijayapura on Friday. 'The State unit of the BJP is in the Intensive Care Unit. There is no proper coordination with the alliance partner JD(S). All the leaders are sold out. Instead of acting as active leaders of a responsible opposition party, they are acting as per the wishes of the ruling party leaders, he told reporters. He said that the State leaders were trying to present a false picture of the state unit's activities before the central leaders, while betraying the common party workers,' he said. According to him, Mr. Vijayendra was responsible for this State of the party. 'Many senior leaders are acting as per the directions of Congress leaders. Mr. Vijayendra seeks the permission of Minister Priyank Kharge before visiting Kalaburagi. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar are keeping the opposition inactive, by threatening Mr. Yediyurappa and Mr. Vijayendra of filing or proceeding with criminal cases against them. At least now, senior leaders like Amit Shah should understand that the BJP can not depend on Mr. Yediyurappa or his family members for ever,' he said. He criticised the Congress government in the State as an anti-Hindu government. 'If Mr. Siddaramaiah is allowed to be Chie Minister for the next three years, he will turn Karnataka into a Kerala or a West Bengal. Unfortunately, the State BJP is not raising its voice against such actions by the Congress,' Mr. Yatnal said.
