Bukit Aman launches disciplinary investigation into Ampang cop over alleged hotel invite in viral clip

KUALA LUMPUR, June 15 — Bukit Aman's Integrity and Standards Compliance Department (JIPS) is conducting a disciplinary investigation into a police officer accused of inviting a woman to meet and check into a hotel, as alleged in a video that has gone viral on social media. Its director, Datuk Seri Azri Ahmad, said a police report on the incident was lodged yesterday by the chief of the Pandan Indah police station. 'The case is being investigated under Section 509 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998. 'JIPS Bukit Aman is also carrying out a concurrent disciplinary probe into the junior police officer involved, including aspects of supervision,' he said in a statement today. He added that firm action would be taken against any officer or supervisor if complaints are found to be substantiated. Earlier, national news agency Bernama reported that the woman who uploaded the video of the conversation — allegedly insulting to female modesty — has been urged to come forward to assist with the investigation. Ampang Jaya district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Azam Ismail said police had detected a 1-minute-30-second video showing a conversation between a police officer and a woman of unidentified ethnicity. The clip, which allegedly demeaned the woman's modesty, was posted on TikTok by a user named shaamajinbuulalu and later spread to Instagram.

Police appoint lawyer as FRU truck crash victims' families face exploitation attempts

GERIK, May 27 — Police have revealed attempts by certain parties to exploit the families of Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) personnel following the fatal accident in Teluk Intan on May 13. Perak police chief Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin said the police had appointed a lawyer to represent all the families and affected personnel to prevent exploitation regarding compensation and contributions meant for them. Noor Hisam advised them not to engage with unknown individuals, stressing that they must only communicate through the appointed lawyer. 'There are attempts to take advantage of the situation. We cannot go into specifics, but based on reports, it involves financial and legal matters. 'Raja Permaisuri of Perak (Tuanku Zara Salim) has expressed concern over the issue of exploitation, so we are taking this matter seriously,' he told reporters after today's handover of duties ceremony for the Gerik district police chief at the Gerik District Police Headquarters here today. The crash, which occurred at 8.54am, between an FRU truck and a stone-laden lorry, killed nine FRU personnel, injuring nine others. Meanwhile, Noor Hisam said that the police's Integrity and Standards Compliance Department (JIPS) will continue to prioritise providing counselling services for the families and FRU personnel involved in the accident to help restore their emotional well-being and resume their daily lives. 'Under JIPS, there is the Religious and Counselling Division with trained counsellors who continue to support the affected families and personnel. We are not leaving them behind, carefully looking after every aspect of their well-being,' he added. — Bernama
