Miley Cyrus's Creative Director Breaks Down the Epic Visual Universe of Something Beautiful

Jacob Bixenman: I don't know. I mean, it's nice hearing you say that. I don't think I've ever tried to carve out a specific thing, but I feel like I've been offered such cool opportunities, from starting modeling and everything I've done since. And then having the opportunity to work with Miley. I didn't really have any experience prior to what I'm working on now. My intention was just kind of keep saying yes to things. From your own perch, what does being a creative director entail? For me, it's case by case, but in general, it's just kind of finding how to articulate the purpose of something. With Miley, there are projects where I'll understand what she wants out of something and I'll think of things like, who are the best team members for it? Who's a cool photographer that I'm really liking? You oversee that and make sure whatever you're setting out to do fits the little tapestry that's being woven. How did you and Miley initially connect? I actually wanted really badly to work with Miley before I had any reason to believe that I could or would. And then a mutual friend of ours who's another artist who she collaborated with said to me, 'I feel like you guys would have a good time together.' He suggested that she and I get together to just meet and work on this first thing that we ever shot together, which was a promo for a live album, and we just had so much fun. Being creative with someone can be as intimate as going on a date. Would you say you spoke the same language? Anything that she does, she does it so fully and wholeheartedly; if she agrees to do something, she's gonna arrive to it. So I was really surprised, when I shot with her for the first time, at just how intuitive she was. She's very easy to fall in love with and fall in love working with. For that first experience, I was really kind of nervous, but from the moment we began, I was just like, Oh, yeah, I'm here for a reason. And we were getting along, just asking questions and trying to learn how to communicate. And I think what you're saying is true; creating something with anyone is so intimate. It's a collaboration, but ultimately it's her world. I think that when someone trusts you or invites you to create something for them, it's a super vulnerable and intimate thing. So I find that connection with someone, when you have a shorthand or a language, it's just easy.

Miley Cyrus responds to frustrated hecklers with surprise performance at Tribeca Festival

Miley Cyrus is all about appeasing her fans. On Friday, the Disney alum - who was celebrating the release of her new film, "Something Beautiful" at the Tribeca Festival in New York City - was greeted by hecklers during a Q&A panel after the film's premiere. In a video posted to X, Cyrus - who was joined by her producer Panos Cosmatos, and collaborators Jacob Bixenman and Brendan Walter - was speaking when a voice from the crowd could be heard saying,"We thought this was a concert! We paid $800!" Another fan yelled, "Are you actually gonna sing?!" "Sing 'The Climb'!" one member of the audience demanded. Cyrus handled the request like a professional and replied, "You have to start it." Singing a few verses, the surprise performance quickly turned into a sing-along as the crowd joined in. Fans were quick to come to the singer's defense, dubbing the hecklers as rude. "Seriously though, she is incredible for this reaction to the rude calls for her to sing. Exceptional grace," one fan wrote. "Not a Miley fan, but I respect that," another user wrote. "Tiny gesture humanized her for me. Could have easily ignored the fan/hecklers, made it awkward for everyone on stage, but turned it into a singalong… probably did more for whatever movie this is than the entire interview that's going on." "That's so f---ing annoying of the fans," another wrote. "Imagine trying to do something other than singing and nobody wants to hear anything you have to say because it's not what they want to hear. But $800 for a premiere is wild."
