Elite 2027 quarterback likes how Mike Norvell coaches

The FSU Seminoles recently landed the quarterback of their 2026 recruiting class in Jaden O'Neal, and now they are working on landing one for the 2027 cycle. One of their top targets is Jayce Johnson, a four-star prospect from Valdosta, Georgia. He recently named them one of his top five schools and locked in his commitment date for Aug. 3. Johnson will be deciding between the Seminoles, Texas A&M Aggies, Tennessee Volunteers, Mississippi State Bulldogs, and South Carolina Gamecocks. He recently spoke with On3's Steve Wiltfong about his recruitment and explained what he likes about each school. For the Seminoles, it was all about head coach Mike Norvell and quarterback coach Tony Tokarz. 'The way Coach (Mike) Norvell coaches and the way Coach (Tony) Tokarz breaks down how he wants his quarterbacks to work within his offense," he said. Johnson is the No. 50 player and No. 5 quarterback in On3's industry ranking. The 6-foot-3, 205-pounder is also the No. 6 player from Georgia. He had a productive sophomore season for Lowndes High School, leading them to a 10-2 record. Johnson completed 67.2% (123-183) of his passes for 1,799 yards, 16 touchdowns, and three interceptions, per MaxPreps. He also rushed for 318 yards and three touchdowns on 79 carries, averaging 4.0 yards per carry. His impressive track speed is what everyone knows about. But his ability to run crisp routes, create separation and catch the ball continue to get better. Gregory rarely drops a pass and we didn't see it happen again during the Rivals Five-Star. Coach Mike Elko will have a very dependable weapon in his offense. He won the fastest man competition, beating everyone in the finals. McFarland was consistently open during the one-on-ones and 7-on-7 portion of camp. He's a name the country will know about in short order. Sadler was one of the bigger surprises of camp. We knew he was good but no one saw it coming that he'd be able to get open with such ease against some of the best defensive backs in the country. The Michigan native is electric in the slot and took home MVP honors. North Carolina has the momentum in this recruitment. But Colorado, Maryland, Michigan and Michigan State are still in the hunt for him.

Florida State got its quarterback for the 2026 cycle last weekend when four-star Jaden O'Neal committed. They have two players committed in the 2027 class, but they don't have a quarterback yet. Four-star Jayce Johnson is one of their primary targets at the position for that particular class. Johnson has a total of 29 offers. However, he's narrowed his choices down to five schools. His final programs are the Mississippi State Bulldogs, Texas A&M Aggies, South Carolina Gamecocks, Tennessee Volunteers, and FSU. Also, Johnson has set his commitment date for Aug. 3. On3's industry rankings have Johnson as the No. 50 overall player in the country and the No. 5 quarterback. He's also the No. 6 prospect out of Georgia. His numbers weren't gaudy as a sophomore, but Johnson had some nice production. He completed 123 of his 183 passes as a sophomore (67.2 %) for 1,799 yards and 16 touchdowns with just three interceptions. Also, he gained 318 yards on the ground and scored three times. Johnson was in Tallahassee on June 5 for a camp, and he also took an unofficial visit on June 15. Hopefully, that was enough to secure his commitment.
