Elite 2027 quarterback likes how Mike Norvell coaches
The FSU Seminoles recently landed the quarterback of their 2026 recruiting class in Jaden O'Neal, and now they are working on landing one for the 2027 cycle. One of their top targets is Jayce Johnson, a four-star prospect from Valdosta, Georgia.
He recently named them one of his top five schools and locked in his commitment date for Aug. 3. Johnson will be deciding between the Seminoles, Texas A&M Aggies, Tennessee Volunteers, Mississippi State Bulldogs, and South Carolina Gamecocks.
He recently spoke with On3's Steve Wiltfong about his recruitment and explained what he likes about each school. For the Seminoles, it was all about head coach Mike Norvell and quarterback coach Tony Tokarz.
'The way Coach (Mike) Norvell coaches and the way Coach (Tony) Tokarz breaks down how he wants his quarterbacks to work within his offense," he said.
Johnson is the No. 50 player and No. 5 quarterback in On3's industry ranking. The 6-foot-3, 205-pounder is also the No. 6 player from Georgia.
He had a productive sophomore season for Lowndes High School, leading them to a 10-2 record. Johnson completed 67.2% (123-183) of his passes for 1,799 yards, 16 touchdowns, and three interceptions, per MaxPreps. He also rushed for 318 yards and three touchdowns on 79 carries, averaging 4.0 yards per carry.

Five-star 2026 linebacker chooses Alabama over Ohio State
In what isn't much of a surprise, five-star 2026 linebacker Xavier Griffin announced his commitment to Alabama on Sunday. James Laurinaitis and Ohio State had hopes early on that Griffin could join an already solid linebacker room because of the prospects over the last couple of cycles, but as of late, the trend has been towards Tuscaloosa despite Griffin decommitting from USC and immediately scheduling a visit to Coumbus. Notre Dame commit Dylan Faison reaffirms his pledge to the Fighting Irish
Notre Dame's first commitment in the 2026 recruiting class doesn't intend to change his plans any time soon. St. Andrew's School (Boca Raton, FL) senior Dylan Faison, the brother of current Fighting Irish junior wide receiver Jordan Faison, pledged to the Fighting Irish in March of 2024 and does not plan on changing allegiances despite Miami extending a scholarship offer in early June. Boca Raton being so close to Miami may have Notre Dame fans concerned, but the 5-foot-11, 170-pound Faison affirms he is "100 percent locked in" with the Irish. 2026 4-star ATH commits to Tennessee over Texas A&M
While head coach Mike Elko and company have been hot on the recruiting trail as of late, the program saw a four-star wide receiver prospect commit to the Tennessee Volunteers over the Texas A&M Aggies on Saturday. It was down to the Aggies and the Vols, but when it came time for the final decision to be made, Legend Bey locked in his commitment to become Josh Heupel's 13th member of Tennessee's 2026 class. Bey spent most of his high school football career at the quarterback position, where he threw for 1,444 passing yards and 41 touchdowns. Per 247 Sports Player Recruiting Rankings, Bey is the No. 23 ATH and No. 49 player in the state of Texas. He also ranks as the No. 451 player in the country in the 2026 cycle. He received 36 total offers, including those from Ohio State, West Virginia, Duke, Texas A&M, Tennessee, and Oklahoma State. His elite speed and potential at wideout are why Bey will likely move from his normal position as a signal-caller to catching passes in Neyland Stadium for the Vols in 2026. Crystal ball predictions from 247 Sports had Elko and company with the highest probability of landing his commitment. Still, Heupel's spread offense spoke volumes to Bey in his transition to wide receiver. The speedy track and field star is highly touted for his ability to accelerate and find holes in opposing defenses quickly. His strong arm also makes him a dangerous threat for Heupel to use, with Bey already in talks to throw the ball around some in the Vols' offense. Following the last two days of multiple 2026 commits announcing their future destinations, the Aggies fell from No. 2 to No. 4 in 247 Sports Team Recruiting Rankings. Elko and crew have landed 21 hard commits for the upcoming class, including two five-star and 12 four-star prospects. After months on the trail trying to land Bey, the announcement from the track and field star is disappointing news for Texas A&M and the Aggie fans. There are more athletes on the radar that fans in Aggieland should keep their eyes on, however.
