Longhorns lose another recruiting battle as 4-Star EDGE commits to Baylor
It's becoming a broken record -- Texas has lost another recruiting battle. The Longhorns have been on the wrong side of nine recruiting battles over the past couple of weeks and suddenly it feels like the UT 2026 class is in jeopardy. This time, Texas lost out on four-star EDGE Jamarion Carlton to Baylor. The Temple High School prospect picked the Bears over Texas, Texas Tech and LSU. Carlton is the No. 44 prospect in the nation according to On3 Industry rankings. The 6-foot-4, 240 pound defensive lineman plays multiple sports, including basketball and runs track. After signing the No. 1 class during the 2025 recruiting cycle, Texas is struggling some for 2026, currently ranking No. 16 on On3. Like some of the other recruiting losses, this one reportedly came down to money. Texas' valuation of many players is probably logical. But other teams are swooping in and offering huge NIL offers that have chipped away at UT's overall class. Follow us on X (formerly Twitter) at @LonghornsWire.

Texas surging with elite edge Jamarion Carlton after recent visit
Texas has picked a few huge commitments over the last week for their 2026 recruiting class as four-star defensive lineman Dylan Berymon and four-star defensive tackle Corey Wells made their pledges to the Longhorns. They have another blue-chipper in their sights as well and that's four-star edge Jamarion Carlton. The 6-foot-5, 240-pounder named Texas in his top five schools last week and also set a July 10 commitment date. Carlton was back in Austin last weekend to see the Longhorns, and he got to take in a bunch of what the program has to offer and what they have in store if he commits. Advertisement "This official visit was amazing," Carlton told Rivals earlier this week. "Just to be able to chill with the players, get some good advice and then being able to know what plan they have for me. At Texas, the plan to develop me into reaching my highest potential as a player and as a person was great. The time with the players and the coaches was pretty fun." Carlton had a productive junior season for Temple High School. He amassed 57 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, five sacks, and a forced fumble. Rivals has Carlton ranked extremely high in their rankings. In addition to being the No. 46 overall prospect he's also the No. 4 edge rusher and the No. 4 recruit in the state of Texas. Texas Tech hosted Carlton at the end of April and LSU in May. He still has official visits to Texas A&M and Baylor before he commits, so last weekend was immensely important for Texas and their chances to land Carlton. Advertisement After spending time with players on the Longhorns roster as well as edge coach LaAllan Clark, Carlton can envision himself playing in Austin. "I can see myself there," Carlton said. If Texas can snag Carlton, they'll inch closer toward a top 10 class for the 2026 cycle. Texas Predicted to Land 4-Star Recruit Over In-State Rival
Texas Predicted to Land 4-Star Recruit Over In-State Rival originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Texas Longhorns are in position to battle for national championships largely due to their ability to land some of the most talented high school players. Advertisement They continue to make pushes for some of the top recruits in the 2026 class, including EDGE Jamarion Carlton, whom they brought in for an official visit on June 6, marking their sixth time hosting him. However, they certainly have some competition, as he previously visited with the Texas Tech Red Raiders on April 25 and has another visit scheduled with the Baylor Bears on June 20. Luckily, for the Longhorns, though, signs are pointing in the right direction, because on Thursday, On3's Josh McCuistion logged an expert prediction for Texas to land Carlton. Texas Longhorns head coach Steve Heitman-Imagn Images It would certainly be a big win, as Carlton is coming off his best season for Temple (Texas) High School, accumulating 57 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, five sacks, 13 hurries, three pass deflections and one forced fumble in 10 games. Advertisement That's helped turn him into one of the most sought-after recruits this cycle, as On3 Industry Rankings place him as a four-star prospect, the No. 8 EDGE, the No. 4 player in Texas and the No. 43 player in the nation. He would certainly be a big addition for Sarkisian's already very strong 2026 class, which features a total of 13 commitments, ranking No. 6 in the SEC and No. 13 in the nation. It would also be a big win considering the Longhorns are battling two in-state programs in the Red Raiders and the Bears for one of the best recruits in Texas.
