Texas surging with elite edge Jamarion Carlton after recent visit
Texas has picked a few huge commitments over the last week for their 2026 recruiting class as four-star defensive lineman Dylan Berymon and four-star defensive tackle Corey Wells made their pledges to the Longhorns. They have another blue-chipper in their sights as well and that's four-star edge Jamarion Carlton.
The 6-foot-5, 240-pounder named Texas in his top five schools last week and also set a July 10 commitment date. Carlton was back in Austin last weekend to see the Longhorns, and he got to take in a bunch of what the program has to offer and what they have in store if he commits.
"This official visit was amazing," Carlton told Rivals earlier this week. "Just to be able to chill with the players, get some good advice and then being able to know what plan they have for me. At Texas, the plan to develop me into reaching my highest potential as a player and as a person was great. The time with the players and the coaches was pretty fun."
Carlton had a productive junior season for Temple High School. He amassed 57 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, five sacks, and a forced fumble.
Rivals has Carlton ranked extremely high in their rankings. In addition to being the No. 46 overall prospect he's also the No. 4 edge rusher and the No. 4 recruit in the state of Texas.
Texas Tech hosted Carlton at the end of April and LSU in May. He still has official visits to Texas A&M and Baylor before he commits, so last weekend was immensely important for Texas and their chances to land Carlton.
After spending time with players on the Longhorns roster as well as edge coach LaAllan Clark, Carlton can envision himself playing in Austin.
"I can see myself there," Carlton said.
If Texas can snag Carlton, they'll inch closer toward a top 10 class for the 2026 cycle.

5-star 2026 Ohio State running back target Savion Hiter announces commitment date
As it stands right now, the Ohio State football team has put together a very good recruiting class for the 2026 cycle, but if we're being honest, it's a little behind where we've seen in past years, especially considering the Buckeyes are coming off a College Football Playoff national championship. And while many programs would love to have the class Ohio State has, there have been some pretty big misses as the program tries to figure out how name, image and likeness, and the House Settlement leading to direct revenue payments will work. The perception is that the Buckeyes have been conservative compared to other teams, and that has seemingly led to some misses on the high-priority targets. But there's another big one in play coming up with five-star running back Savion Hiter, who just announced his commitment date. According to the 247Sports Composite rankings, Hiter is ranked as the No. 1 running back and ninth overall prospect in the class. He will be making his college choice on August 19, according to an announcement on "X," and he'll be choosing among a final four of Ohio State, Georgia, Michigan, and Tennessee. To be fair, OSU doesn't seem to have the momentum in this race -- though that hasn't seemed to matter this year. Despite being on campus multiple times, the buzz is that it'll come down to Michigan and Tennessee, both of whom have been much more aggressive with NIL money than Ohio State has been. To date, the Buckeyes have just one running back commitment in the class of 2026, three-star Ohio product Favour Akih. It's beginning to look like he'll be the lone back in this class unless there's a surprise with Hiter, or OSU pivots and tries to find a diamond in the rough to round out the class. Super Bowl Champion, Former Texas Star Retires At 33
Super Bowl Champion, Former Texas Star Retires At 33 originally appeared on The Spun. Just days after training camp opened up, the Cleveland Browns lost a veteran member of their defense to retirement. In 2015, the Philadelphia Eagles selected Jordan Hicks with the 84th pick. The former All-American at Texas had a nice run in the City of Brotherly Love and was a member of their Super Bowl team in 2017. Hicks left the Eagles in 2019 to sign a four-year, $36 million contract with the Arizona Cardinals. He then had a two-year stint with the Minnesota Vikings before taking his talents to Cleveland. On Friday morning, Hicks announced that his NFL journey has come to an end. "After 23 years of playing football, I'm officially retiring from the NFL," Hicks wrote in his statement. "Football has given me more than I could have ever imagined. Purpose, discipline, brotherhood, and a platform to impact others. But most importantly, it showed me who I am outside the game. "I leave this chapter with deep gratitude for every lesson, challenge, and victory. I'm proud of what I accomplished on the field, but even more proud of the man I've become because of it. To my teammates, coaches, fans, and most importantly my family, thank you for your unwavering support throughout this journey. I'm looking forward to this next season of life and all that it brings. I walk away with peace knowing I gave football all I had, and that the best is yet to come." At the end of Hicks' retirement letter, he let his fans know that "the best is yet to come." Hicks will finish his NFL career with 952 tackles, 16.5 sacks, 13 interceptions and 11 fumble recoveries. His best years were in Arizona and Philadelphia.
