Alabama football 2026 commitment officially shuts down recruitment
According to a social media post Saturday afternoon, current Alabama Crimson Tide 2026 football commit Jamarion Matthews has officially shut down his recruitment. Matthews, a four-star defensive prospect, has been committed to the Crimson Tide since February of 2025. Per the 247Sports Composite recruiting rankings, Matthews is considered as the nation's No. 98 overall prospect in the 2026 class, as well as the No. 13 edge rusher nationally. A four-star prospect, Matthews is also considered the No. 11 overall prospect in the state of Georgia where he attends Gainesville High School. Matthews is currently one-of-two edge rushers currently part of Alabama's 2026 class, joined by in-state prospect Kamhariyan Johnson. The fellow four-star also officially shut down his recruitment earlier this month. On Saturday, one of the commits for their class announced his plans to shut down his recruitment. Four-star edge rusher Jamarion Matthews is sticking with Alabama. Matthews has been committed to the Crimson Tide since February and is a native of Gainesville, Georgia. He is listed at 6-foot-2.5, 250 pounds. He is high school teammates with five-star linebacker Xavier Griffin, who just a received a prediction to land with the Crimson Tide. Alabama is waiting on the commitment announcement from four-star offensive tackle Deacon Schmitt. Schmitt's announcement is scheduled for Saturday and is between the Crimson Tide, the Colorado Buffaloes and Oklahoma Sooners. Alabama's 2025 season opener is against Florida State on August 30, with a 3:30 p.m. ET kickoff via ABC. Alabama football lands commitment from 2026 four-star edge rusher
For the second consecutive day, the Alabama Crimson Tide have added a commit to their 2026 recruiting class, as Jamarion Matthews announced his commitment to the program Friday afternoon. Matthews' joins fellow 2026 commit Chris Booker, who announced a commitment to the Crimson Tide on Thursday night. Alabama's third commitment of the 2026 cycle, Matthews is rated as the nation's No. 200 overall prospect in the class according to the 247Sports Composite recruiting rankings, as well as the No. 17 edge rusher. Rated as a four-star prospect, Matthews is also considered as the No. 26 player in the state of Georgia where he attends Gainesville High School. Matthews however recently spent the 2024 season in the state of Alabama at Sparkman High School, but recently announced a transfer to Gainesville for his senior year. Matthews now joins fellow four-star Zyan Gibson and the aforementioned Booker in Alabama's 2026 class, which currently ranks No. 32 nationally according to the 247Sports Team Rankings.
