Stashed in 2024, Cowboys 7th-round pick looks to turn grainy film into real opportunity

One of the oldest tricks in the book when it comes to roster manipulation is the IR stash at the end of training camp. When a team has a player it has no intention of putting on the field, but has enough concern another team might have interest, they avoid risking the player being claimed off waivers in an attempt to get them on the practice squad. Instead, they trade practice reps for projection, and place a player like Nate Thomas on IR, where he can work out and sit through meetings. But what happens when the coaching staff changes after the redshirt season? That's what Thomas faces in 2025 where, despite offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer's rise to the head coach role, he has a whole new scheme and position coach to impress. RunDown Position: Offensive Tackle Age: 24 (Week 1 age) Height: 6-foot-4 Weight: 331 pounds Hometown: New Orleans, LA High School: Chamlee High School College: Louisiana (Pre-Draft Analysis) Draft: 2024 Draft, Seventh-Round (No. 233 overall) Acquired: 2024 Draft Contract: Four-year extension (2024), $4.1 million 2025 Base Salary: $795,000 Profile Thomas has a chance to make the 2025 roster as the Cowboys have issues at both tackle spots. Tyler Guyton had an mostly down rookie year as a first-round pick, and his backup Asim Richards doesn't have a ton of experience, either. On the opposite side, Terence Steele is entering the final assured year of his deal and if he can't improve his pass protection he may not get another opportunity in Dallas. In other words, there are future snaps to project and if Thomas shows value, they won't be able to stash him another year. Aside from those three players, Matt Waletzko still exists on the depth chartm as does Dakoda Shepley. The Cowboys also signed Hakeem Adeniji during free agency, who has experience both inside and out, and drafted Anaji Cornelius in the sixth round back in April. 2026 5-star defensive lineman has announced his commitment date

Texas A&M's priority prospect list in the 2026 cycle is dwindling after landing several names over the past two weeks, including back-to-back commitments from four-star tackles Avery Morcho and Zaden Krempin late last week. Coach Mike Elko and his staff are focused on building from the trenches, and while the offensive line looks loaded for the future, the defensive line is two elite prospects away from being solidified. Next month, 2026 five-star DL Lamar Brown will announce his commitment, choosing between the Aggies and LSU, which is reportedly as "50-50" as a decision can get, while it was announced on Monday night that fellow five-star defensive lineman Bryce Perry-Wright, who took his official visit to College Station late last month, has announced his commitment date. Perry-Wright's rise has been something to watch over the past few months, as the undersized lineman possesses elite athleticism that should translate to the next level sooner rather than later, leading to nearly every Power Five program taking notice. According to 247Sports' Tom Loy, the Georgia native will choose between Clemson, Miami, Texas, and Texas A&M on Saturday, July 5, which will stream on 247Sports and CBS Sports at 5 pm ET. Texas A&M has as good of a chance at landing Perry-Wright after hosting him for his final official visit of the summer, though Miami and Clemson are also clearly in the mix, while the Texas Longhorns' success at securing elite defensive tackles could continue. According to 247Sports, Perry-Wright is currently positioned as the 32nd-ranked prospect in the cycle, the 2nd-ranked defensive lineman, and the 5th-ranked prospect in Georgia. First but not last: 2026 wide receiver commits to Alabama over SEC, Big Ten schools

Alabama football has picked up its first commitment at wide receiver from the class of 2026. Three-star Tennessee receiver Owen Cabell announced his commitment to the Crimson Tide on Monday. Listed as 6-foot-3, 201 pounds, Cabell chose Alabama over a number of SEC and Big Ten schools, including Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin and Vanderbilt. Advertisement The addition of Cabell gives Alabama 15 hard commitments in the class of 2026. Cabell, who plays for Christ Presbyterian Academy in Nashville, is the seventh offensive player to commit to coach Kalen DeBoer, whose team has risen significantly in the various industry recruiting rankings after a big month in June. In the past week alone, Alabama has landed 5-star EDGE Xavier Griffin from Gainesville (Ga.), 5-star running back Ezavier Crowell (Jackson, Ala.), 4-star tight end Mack Sutter from Dunlap, Ill., and 3-star recruits Javari Barnett (running back, Tampa), Rihyael Kelley (safety, Cincinnati) and Zay Hall (linebacker; Hillcrest High School in Tuscaloosa). After the Crimson Tide's recent run in recruiting, 247Sports ranks Alabama with the No. 8 overall class in 2026. On3 has them at No. 9. Cabell is ranked as the No. 939 overall recruit in 2026 by On3, which lists him as the nation's 145th wide receiver. He recently clocked a 4.4 in the 40-yard dash, according to a video shared to social media. At wide receiver, DeBoer and staff are also targeting 5-star in-state recruit Cederian Morgan from Alexander City and 3-star Sunshine State target Brian Williams out of Orlando.
