Aap Jaisa Koi review: Madhavan-Fatima's love story is a dull Rocky Aur Rani...
It's important for cinema to start conversations about things that matter - smashing the patriarchy, demanding gender equality, understanding that marriage is not for everyone, or simply exploring second chances in life. It's beautiful when cinema does that. But it has to be done seamlessly. The more organic it feels, the more powerful it becomes and that's where 'Aap Jaisa Koi' falls R Madhavan and Fatima Sana Shaikh-starrer is an age-appropriate love story, yes, but it has its flaws - some more glaring and unforgiveable than others. The story follows Shrirenu Tripathi, a Jamshedpur-based Sanskrit professor - a virgin man in his 40s who never had the chance to fall in love, let alone get close to a woman. Sparks fly when he meets a 32-year-old Madhu Bose from Kolkata - a pretty, confident, modern woman who embraces her sexual agency just as much as she appreciates a shy, introverted an unlikely match. Two families collide, and just when things are supposed to feel celebratory, everything begins to fall apart. Dreams no longer seem colourful, and the heart is not smiling anymore. The good thing about 'Aap Jaisa Koi' is that it attempts to say something relevant. Director Vivek Soni wants to make you think -and that effort is commendable. But the delivery is far from is a stone-age concept. Cinema that attempts to challenge it deserves appreciation. However, it needs to be woven into the narrative organically, without feeling forced. In 'Aap Jaisa Koi', when things are happy, they feel almost exaggeratedly so - but when the cracks appear, it feels like everything comes crashing down out of nowhere. Honestly, the central conflict doesn't look big enough, and the tension between the couple doesn't convince. What's worse is the awkward chemistry between Madhava and actors are bold and expressive in their individual performances, but together, something feels off - as if they are acutely aware of their age gap, their surroundings, or the emotional depth their characters are supposed to share but haven't yet film also tries to say too much. There's a long-winded justification or rather glorification of an extra-marital affair, a father who's a textbook patriarch, and several men who refuse to grow into progressive citizens. And really, how many more times will Bollywood show women transforming men? The trope is counterproductive to the entire progressive narrative 'Aap Jaisa Koi' is trying to push. A man's personal growth - from being a sexist to a supportive partner - shouldn't come at the cost of a woman's Jaisa Koi' is an entertainer that makes sense in parts. However, it's not the most effective or refined take on smashing the patriarchy. At times, it even feels like a frayed version of 'Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani'. Watchable - just keep your expectations in film is currently streaming on Netflix. - Ends2.5 out of 5 stars to 'Aap Jaisa Koi' IN THIS STORY#R. Madhavan#Fatima Sana Shaikh

"Aap Jaisa Koi is a film about breaking free from the walls we build around ourselves. It's about embracing the awkwardness and vulnerability of love. Working with Netflix again after Meenakshi Sundareshwar has been a fulfilling experience, and I'm excited to present a love story that's tender, messy, and intimate, one that embraces vulnerability without losing its charm and breeziness. It quietly questions the roles we fall into in relationships and reflects the quiet courage it takes to truly let someone in. Former BCCI acting secy's legacy looms as cricket body polls today
1 2 Kolkata/Ranchi: The legacy of late IPS officer-turned cricket administrator Amitabh Choudhary is looming large over the election for the new managing committee of the Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA), which is scheduled to take place here on Sunday. Over 718 voters will exercise their franchise to pick the new JSCA president, vice president, secretary, treasurer, joint secretary, five committee members, four district representatives and a school, club or institution representative on Sunday. Votes will be cast in ballot papers from 9 am to 1 pm. N N Pandey, former cabinet secretary in the state govt, has been appointed as the election officer. Ajay Nath Shahdeo , a Congress functionary who previously served as the JSCA vice-president while Choudhary was the president, is in the race for the president's post. He is facing off against S K Behara , a Jamshedpur-based businessman, who has been a district representative and close associate of Choudhary. The Shahdeo camp has spiced up the election by fielding two former Indian cricketers, Saurabh Tiwary and Shehbaz Nadeem, as secretary and joint secretary candidates. "If elected, Tiwary and Nadeem would become the first-ever former international cricketers to hold office in the JSCA," Shahdeo said. The election took an interesting turn when Abhishek, Choudhary's son, wrote a letter to Pandey, objecting to the Behara camp using the slogan 'Amitabh Ke Log (People of Amitabh)' in their manifesto on Friday. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Upto 15% Discount for Salaried Individuals ICICI Pru Life Insurance Plan Get Quote Undo In his letter, Abhishek accused four candidates of the Behara group of trespassing, encroaching and selling off Choudhary's properties at Rajrappa in Ramgarh, Patna and Madhubani in Bihar. He also filed an FIR against one of them with the cyber police station for threatening him and his sister, Niyati, Abhishek claimed in his letter. Making matters more interesting is the involvement of a senior IPS officer, who is posted in Ranchi and JSCA member for many years. The officer worked behind the scenes to pitch Behara. "He is a close friend of Choudhary who does not want the JSCA to be governed by office bearers with political inclinations," a source close to Behara said. The officer, however, refused to comment when contacted. While candidates in Behara's group said the charges against some of their candidates were yet to be proven in court, Behara said he was determined to carry Choudhary's legacy forward. "The JSCA International Stadium in Ranchi has given cricket a big boost in Jharkhand, but we need to create infrastructure in districts so that we can bring out players like Vaibhav Suryavanshi (the IPL sensation from Bihar) from our state, too," Behara told TOI. "I have been in JSCA and worked with Choudhary. His death was a big loss to state cricket. But we will carry forward his legacy," Shahdeo told TOI on election eve.
