Kolhapur: Alleging that several demands have not been fulfilled despite repeated initimations, the Sangli Railway Passenger Association and Sangli Zilla Nagrik Jagruti Manch have written to Central Railway (CR) officials, warning them of an agitation to be held at Sangli Railway Station on Ashadi Ekadashi (July 5). Association members alleged that several of their demands related to Sangli, Hatkanangale, Karad, Jat Road and Bhilawadi railway stations are not fulfilled thus the decision to carry out a 'Jan Andolan' against the railway administration. Satish Sakhalkar from Sangli Zilla Nagrik Jagruti Manch said, "As per the letters written to CR general manager on June 6 and June 10, a 15-day ultimatum was given to fulfil our pending demands related to Sangli, Hatkanangale, Kirloskarwadi, Karad, Bhilwadi, Kavthemahankal and Jat Road stations. "Whole govt, including Chief Minister is silent": Former Karnataka CM Bommai on BR Patil's allegations
Haveri (Karnataka) [India], June 24 (ANI): Amid a row over Congress MLA BR Patil's allegations of corruption against Karnataka government, former Chief Minister and BJP MP Basavaraj Bommai on Monday hit out at the Congress-led state government, saying that the frustration about corruption in the ruling party has reached the point of 'no return.' Questioning silence of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and government, the BJP MP alleged that the state leadership have agreed that there is a huge amount of corruption in the state. Speaking to ANI, Bommai says, 'The frustration about corruption in the ruling party has reached the point of no return. That's why ruling party MLAs are complaining about the corruption in transfers, in getting the work done, to get the work order, and to get the bills...' 'Every day, one or the other MLA cries, but the whole government, including the CM, is silent. That means they have agreed that there is a huge amount of corruption in the state. Financially, it has gone broke. Ministers are writing open letters instead of speaking in the cabinet...' he added. Bommai also announced that the BJP state unit will soon stage multiple 'Jan Andolans' against the Congress government over the matter for which party leaders will soon conduct a meeting. He said, 'Therefore, the BJP state unit will sit together and frame the issues where the development has not occurred. We will have a Jan Andolan in different regions. Shortly after that, all the state seniors will meet in Bangalore. Our Leader of Opposition, President, office bearers and all MPs, MLAs will sit together and finalise the issues...' His reaction came after BR Patil's acknowledgment of a viral audio clip that has sparked allegations of corruption in the housing department. Patil acknowledged that it was his voice in the audio clip that went viral on social media, where a phone conversation purportedly between Patil and Sarfaraz Khan, the personal assistant (PA) to Karnataka Housing and Minority Welfare Minister BZ Zameer Ahmed Khan, has brought the Congress government under fire due to allegations of irregularities in the housing allotment. Speaking on the matter, Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy said, '... Illegal activities took place in BR Patil's constituency. Two days ago, he called the minister's private secretary... But that private secretary said that if anything goes wrong, then they will make the decision, and he asked for the documents. This is the adamant reply by that officer... He is the main person who loots the state, collecting the money in that department, who is the kingpin. How is he going to take action against these kinds of activities?...' Meanwhile, Congress MLA BR Patil said that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah invited him for a meeting. He would meet him on June 25, possibly to discuss the allegations levelled by the former. 'Yesterday, the CM called me for a meeting. I will meet him on the evening of June 25. He asked me where I was and whether I was coming to Raichur. He asked me to meet him. He did not ask me anything about the audio. I have owned that it was my voice,' Patil told reporters here. When asked about Karnataka Housing Minister Khan denying the allegations, he reiterated, 'It is my voice (in the viral audio clip). I was the one who was talking. What else do you want?... He also has the right to deny it (allegations).' Patil earlier levelled serious allegations against the Housing Board, stating that houses under the Rajiv Gandhi housing scheme are allotted only when bribes are paid. (ANI)

Poshan Abhiyaan made significant strides in improving nutrition outcomes in India: Minister
Poshan Abhiyaan has made significant strides in improving nutrition outcomes in India, said Minister of State for Corporate Affairs and Road, Transport and Highways Harsh Malhotra on Monday. Addressing an event in the national capital, Malhotra said that Poshan Abhiyaan is 'Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government's effort and commitment to addressing India's malnutrition challenges'. 'Poshan Abhiyan has made significant strides in improving nutrition outcomes in India, particularly among children, adolescent girls, pregnant women, and lactating mothers,' Malhotra added. Launched in 2018, the campaign to fight malnutrition has promoted healthy growth and development in the country. 'The programme has enabled a nationwide Jan Andolan, catalysing nutrition-related behavioural change and promoting positive feeding and healthcare practices,' the Minister said. He also applauded the Poshan Tracker App which enables real-time monitoring of nutrition services, ensuring timely interventions and better tracking of progress. Mission Poshan 2.0 is a Rs 1.81 lakh crore initiative (2021-26) that targets children, adolescent girls, pregnant women, and lactating mothers. It not only integrates nutrition, health, and community efforts but also uses digital tools like the Poshan Tracker -- winner of the Prime Minister's Award for Excellence in Public Administration 2024 -- to drive real-time monitoring and behavioural change. As of March 2025, a total of 99.02 per cent of beneficiaries are Aadhaar-verified, and a face authentication module ensures transparency in distributing take-home rations, according to the government. Malhotra also advocated ensuring adequate nutrition for pregnant women and lactating mothers -- crucial for healthy child development. Maternal nutrition plays a vital role in preventing health complications during childbirth and ensuring healthy birth outcomes, the MoS added. 'By prioritising nutrition, India can build a healthier, more productive, and prosperous nation, achieving its vision of a Viksit Bharat,' the Minister said.

Make plantation drive a public movement in Gautam Budh Nagar: DM
GREATER NOIDA: Gautam Budh Nagar district magistrate Manish Kumar Verma on Wednesday called for transforming the district's upcoming plantation drive into a 'Jan Andolan' (public movement), urging officials to ensure big public involvement alongside institutional participation. Chairing a comprehensive review meeting of the district's environment, plantation, Ganga, and wetland committees, the DM directed all departments to adopt a mission-mode approach rather than viewing the campaign as a routine task. 'All departments must coordinate closely, finalise plantation sites, and start pit digging as per their targets. Public participation is crucial — this campaign must transcend paperwork and evolve into a true mass movement,' the DM said He stressed on the need to increase awareness and involvement in rural areas by forming plantation committees in villages. SDMs, in coordination with forest officials, have been tasked with facilitating this process. 'The involvement of schools, RWAs, industrial units, and NGOs must be ensured to build a collective sense of environmental responsibility,' DM Verma said also instructed district inspector of schools (DIOS) Dharamveer Singh to involve students in the plantation drive to offer hands-on environmental education. 'They should learn about the environment not just through books, but through direct action,' he added. As part of the preparations, SDMs have been asked to identify sites along the Hindon river and around local ponds for afforestation activities. Officials also said that the campaign will cover floodplain zones where hoardings will be erected prohibiting construction activities. Expressing concern over rising air pollution due to uncovered transport of construction material, the DM ordered the formation of joint enforcement teams across departments to act against violators and said: 'Strict action must be taken against open waste burning, and the Pollution Control Board must ensure adherence to NGT guidelines in all urban areas,' he said. Reviewing the progress of the wetland committee, the DM instructed officials to include encroached ponds under mitigation plans and conduct site inspections. He also emphasized the importance of reviving degraded wetlands across the district. Divisional forest officer (DFO) Pramod Kumar Srivastava stressed the need for timely execution. 'All departments must submit their plantation site details and pit digging status to the forest department in the prescribed format without delay. Timely groundwork is essential for the success of the monsoon plantation drive,' he said. The plantation campaign is expected to begin with the onset of the monsoon season in July, officials said.
