Charles Spencer's estranged wife and new girlfriend embroiled in bitter $2.6M legal clash
Charles Spencer, the younger brother of the late Princess Diana, is stuck in the middle of a bitter legal spat between his estranged wife and his much-younger new girlfriend. Countess Karen Spencer, 52, who was married to Earl Spencer, 60, from 2011 to 2024, was slapped with a $2.6 million lawsuit by his new flame, Professor Catrine Jarman. The High Court suit, filed against Lady Spencer in October 2024, alleged that she had 'misused' private medical information. 4 Charles Spencer, the younger brother of the late Princess Diana, is stuck in the middle of a bitter legal spat between his estranged wife and his much-younger new BVLGARI and EJAF Jarman, 42, claims that she was forced to reveal her multiple sclerosis diagnosis in a high-profile interview in a desperate bid to silence online gossip — adding that she had 'worked very hard' to keep her health battle under wraps up until that point, GB News reports. The aristocrat's new flame, whom he met in 2021, further claimed she had kept her MS diagnosis hidden from those nearest and dearest to her, including the Earl himself. In her filing, Jarman said she decided to reveal her health condition in an interview with the Daily Mail after becoming concerned about 'loss of autonomy and control' over her own medical history. 4 Countess Karen Spencer, 52, was married to Earl Spencer, 60, from 2011 to 2024. WireImage Lady Spencer, for her part, countered the claim, saying that her estranged husband's new girlfriend's decision to go public with her medical information was 'hopelessly inconsistent' with her legal case. 'Deliberately disclosing the fact that she has MS to the world in a manner calculated to give it maximum publicity is not only entirely inconsistent with any claim to privacy, but it also nullifies the ostensible purpose of these proceedings,' her legal team said in response. On Monday, the women reached an agreement on future estimated legal costs, which are upward of $2.6 million. 4 The Earl (left) and Jarman (middle) have an 18-year age gap between them. The Post has reached out to reps for Earl Spencer for comment. The 9th Earl Spencer announced he was divorcing Karen, his third wife, in June 2024. He shares four kids with his first wife, Victoria Lockwood, and two with his second wife, Caroline Freud. GB's Jarman & Evans win silver in mixed team event
Great Britain's Jake Jarman and Ruby Evans combined to win silver in the first mixed team event at the European Gymnastics Championships in Leipzig. The 23-year-old Jarman, who won gold on Tuesday night as part of the men's team, delivered on the high bar, while teenager Evans shone on the beam. Jarman said: "That was great. Tactically we knew going with our strongest apparatus second gave us a good chance for a medal and the plan worked out perfectly. "It was the perfect scenario this time round so we made the right choice and we're both super happy to have won the silver medal. "It was great to have men's and women gymnastics combine. I think the competition worked really well and it's exciting for the future." Germany's Timo Eder and Karina Schoenmaier took the title title on home soil, with Manila Esposito and Lorenzo Casali of Italy winning bronze. Less than a 10th of a point separated the top two teams with GB's 25.466 seeing them pipped by Germany in the head-to-head final. Evans, 18, added: "The crowd was amazing, Jake helped calm me and we both really enjoyed it. I'm so proud of us both and really happy with this medal." Leipzig saw the first mixed team final to take place in a major artistic gymnastics event before its introduction to the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028.

State School Teachers Union branches call for clarity on what to tell kids about Gaza conflict
Teachers from several public schools are calling for protection from sanctions for voicing support for Palestinians in Gaza as well as more clarity on what they can and can't teach students about the conflict. Their demands have been revealed in the agenda for the State School Teachers Union's biannual State council, to be held on June 13 and 14. Eight of 20 motions submitted by school branches for debate at council — the union's peak decision-making body — reference the conflict in Gaza. 'The SSTUWA will guarantee support for members taking appropriate and peaceful action to advance the human rights of Palestinians and reject any unlawful employer and government actions that seek to restrict appropriate and peaceful action,' a motion from Morley's John Forrest Secondary College said. And Hillman Primary School proposed: 'The SSTUWA reaffirms the principles of the WA curriculum's general capabilities of ethical understanding ... and supports members who choose to reference Palestinian voices in teaching programs developed in accordance with these principles.' The agenda also includes an international report endorsing the Australian Education Union's call for a ceasefire in Gaza. It revealed the SSTU had 'formally requested' the Education Department provide guidance to school leaders and teachers to help protect people from racism, Islamophobia and anti-Semitism. The report said the union 'affirms the right of individual employees to express their cultural identity', but recognised tension could arise when that became linked to a 'controversial policy position'. While the union accepted teachers must abide by the department's code of conduct and avoid perceptions that personal political views may conflict with professional duties, it pledged support for teachers who may be unfairly targeted. 'We expect the department to act with sensitivity and respect towards employees and resolve any issues that arise in a respectful and considerate way, without being influenced by intemperate media reports or political commentary,' it said. 'We will support our members should this not be found to be the case.' SSTUWA president Matt Jarman said the report and motions were part of a 'general wave of solidarity' across the country that would be debated at State council. 'Members are using their right to demand support and clear up any confusion,' he said. Mr Jarman said the Education Department had previously provided guidance papers on dealing with topical or controversial issues. 'Not taking a position, but making clear what they can and cannot do in delivering the curriculum,' he said. 'Obviously there's concern in schools, they feel they don't have that clarity.' It comes as the department revealed it would strengthen its approach to managing anti-Semitism — including extra training for staff and guidance on teaching controversial topics — after a teacher's classroom tribute to the dead leader of terrorist organisation Hamas triggered an independent inquiry. The teacher took indefinite leave in February after it emerged she had last year written on a whiteboard in the colours of the Palestinian flag 'Rest in peace I.H. you were a great leader', in reference to Ismail Haniyeh. Premier Roger Cook ordered the Education Department to review its handling of the incident when it came to light. At the start of the school year, teachers were warned not to express personal views about international conflicts 'of a polarising nature' in a memo sent by the department.
