Artist among those honoured in King's Honours list

A Lincolnshire artist has been awarded a MBE in the King's Birthday Honours list. Jason Wilsher-Mills, from Sleaford, described it as a "wonderful honour". His recent exhibition Are We There Yet? attracted more than 50,000 visitors to the Ferens Art Gallery in Hull. The Wakefield-born artist has used a wheelchair since he was 11 after suffering damage to his central nervous system from contracting chickenpox. He said it was "one of the highest accolades that I could receive". "As it acknowledges my work as an artist, and the work I do to raise awareness about disability related issues," he said. Others on the list include Paul Boucher, director of the Lincolnshire Traveller Initiative, who is awarded an OBE for services to the traveller community in the county. Eleanor Hutton, manager of Grimsby pre-school centre Explorosity Education, receives a MBE Also honoured was Helen Keneally, who received a British Empire Medal (BEM). Ms Keneally, from Scunthorpe, works as a children centre manager and involves families in activities such as community picnics and summer barbeques. Artist's exhibition in Hull shortlisted for global award

An art exhibition at the Ferens Art Gallery in Hull has been shortlisted for a global exhibition entitled Are We There Yet had over 50,000 visitors at the gallery in 2024 and has been shortlisted for a Museum and Heritage pieces explored the experiences of Jason Wilsher-Mills as a disabled person through portrait work and artist said he was "incredibly proud" and grateful that the museum "believed" in his work. Mr Wilsher-Mills used computer tablets to create paintings which were then transformed into large, interactive said the show had been important for him: "This makes me incredibly proud and I would like to take the opportunity in thanking the team at Ferens for all of their care and support, which ultimately made the show such a success." Following the exhibition, the gallery commissioned the artist to make a sculpture for their permanent collection. The Withernsea 2 is a huge inflatable sculpture and is situated near the entrance.
