3-star DB Jaxson Gates chooses BYU over Michigan State and others
A 3-star defensive back prospect has made his college decision, choosing a Big 12 school over Michigan State and others. Jaxson Gates, a native of La Verne, California, was at one time committed to Syracuse, before moving off of that pledge. Now, he has made his commitment to BYU, with the Cougars beating out Michigan State, Utah and Missouri. At one point, a top prospect on Michigan State's 2026 recruiting board, Gates officially visited Michigan State on the second weekend of June. At this point in time, though, the Spartans hold six defensive back commitments in the class, filling up and making the fit with Gates not likely. Michigan State continues to sit at 22 commitments in the 2026 recruiting class.
