Manly fan favourite Jazz Tevaga off to Super League after knocking back new contract to stay
Manly have lost forward Jazz Tevaga to the Super League after the Samoan international opted to sign with Wakefield Trinity from next season. AAP understands that Tevaga has signed a two-year deal with Trinity, after knocking back the option to stay with the Sea Eagles. Picked up from the Warriors at the end of last year, Tevaga has proven a good purchase for the Sea Eagles while filling in at hooker and impressing at lock. He has played his best football in the past two months, wearing the No.13 jersey while Jake Trbojevic had two spells out with concussion. That form came despite the 29-year-old revealing to AAP this month he had been playing through the pain of a fractured rib. The Sea Eagles had recently opened talks with Tevaga around a one-year extension to stay at the club beyond the end of this season. Manly officials believed the former Warrior brought with him a toughness to the club's pack and culture, and had been keen to keep him at Brookvale. But it's understood Trinity were able to offer more money than the Sea Eagles, while also handing Tevaga the security of a two-year deal. Tevaga will start at hooker for Manly on Friday night, after the club's long-term No.9 Lachlan Croker was dropped to reserve grade. '(I prefer) 13, but I have no qualms with starting the game at No.9 and taking the brunt out of the game for whoever is on the bench to come on,' Tevaga told reporters this week. 'When I play No.9, I have to save a bit in the tank because you have to follow the ball around, make right decisions and your passing accuracy has to be on point. 'When I am at lock I can take a spell here and there and invest more energy in my defence.'

Major blow for Manly as fan favourite reportedly signs with different club
Jazz Tevaga has reportedly signed with Wakefield Trinity in the English Super League for 2026 - a huge blow for Manly fans amid the forward's impressive season. Tevaga has become a fan favourite at the Sea Eagles since switching from the Warriors this season. The 29-year-old has been one of the most reliable members of Manly's forward pack in 2025, playing both lock and hooker. The Sea Eagles revealed last month they'd open contract extension talks with Tevaga for 2026, but it appears as though they couldn't get a deal done. The 'All Out Rugby League' website is reporting that Tevaga has agreed to join Wakefield Trinity, joining Brisbane Broncos hooker Tyson Smoothy in making the move for 2026. Tevaga played 138 games for the Warriors between 2016 and 2024, and has represented Samoa in seven Test matches. But 2025 has arguably been his most impressive season to date, and the majority of Manly fans believe he should be starting at lock ahead of Jake Trbojevic. He's played all 14 games for the Sea Eagles this year, and will start at hooker on Friday night against the Wests Tigers. Last month he revealed he'd been playing through a fractured rib, making his form even more impressive. "I've been battling and it doesn't help when you lose a few players, but it's getting better," Tevaga said. "At first it was a rib cartilage, and then I copped a whack on it, and with the rib cartilage out, it just threw me in a vulnerable position. I was going to sit out the Sharks game (in Round 6) ... If you watch it I just couldn't wrestle. In the play-the-ball, I couldn't fight, because it was just in pain, but the (pain-killing) jab helps it." Jazz Tevaga is heading to the Super League! Wakefield Trinity have signed the Manly Forward/Hooker, beating several NRL clubs to his signature. ( All out Rugby League )#NRL #SuperLeague — NRLCentral (@centralNRL) June 25, 2025 Tevaga took something of a gamble when he knocked back an offer from the Warriors to move to Australia on just a one-year deal. He said last month his preference was to remain at Manly. "I put all my eggs in this basket," he said. "I'd prefer to stay. We came over here for an opportunity. I feel like I've lived up to the transaction. Hopefully we can get something across the line. I'm no Isaah Yeo or anything, but I feel like it's working well (at lock) and giving me a good balance." Manly CEO Tony Mestrov had previously said the club had opened discussion with both Tevaga and Siosiua Taukeiaho. "Siua came for a year, had a few injuries, but his leg speed has been great, and Jazz is a tough bugger," Mestrov told AAP. "Siua and Jazz have probably been two of our best forwards this year. They've added to the culture of what we're trying to do, being tough and relentless. We've started discussions, just started with both, with a view to keeping them next year and extending them." Tom has previously flagged a move to England could be on the cards, as he doesn't want to play for any other NRL team if a deal with Manly can't be done. with AAP
