However, the reimagined model will officially debut later this year, before going on sale in 2026. Jeep has already released early images to give buyers an idea of what to expect from the brand's next mid-size off-roader. Jeep CEO, Bob Broderdorf, said: 'The all-new Jeep Cherokee headlines our efforts to deliver more product, innovation, choice, and standard content to customers than ever before.' According to Motor1, the 2026 Cherokee adopts Jeep's latest design language, first seen on the Wagoneer S, and then on the new Compass that debuted in May. The motor pays homage to the brand's classic look, with a seven-slot grille and a body with the familiar, rugged shape. Also, the new model will use Stellantis's STLA Large Transverse architecture, which Motor1 believe could mean it will have a variety of power train options. Popular dealership that sells Dodge and Jeep models abruptly closes for good as owner mourns 'difficult decision' Jeep has already confirmed a hybrid, but pure gas and fully electric power trains seem likely as well. An electric Cherokee would likely have a similar setup to the Wagoneer S, which uses a 100.0Kilowatt-hour battery pack and two electric motors to produce 600 hp and 617 pound-feet of torque. Mr Broderdorf added: 'Jeep Cherokee will boast competitive pricing that strikes at the core of the largest vehicle segment and sits perfectly between Jeep Compass and Jeep Grand Cherokee to bolster our winning mainstream lineup.'

Jeep Cherokee Returns Looking Ready For Bronco Sport Clash

At the end of May, Jeep gave us a first glimpse of the all-new Cherokee, which is set to make its arrival late in 2025. The most recent Cherokee, the KL generation, went out of production in 2023, leaving Jeep crossover fans with only the aging Compass. We've already seen the new Cherokee's face, but a new video reveals the much more squared-off rear of the upcoming crossover. The tougher styling hints at an even more capable crossover that should give the Ford Bronco Sport a good run for its money. The blocky structure of the taillight clusters and the lighting signature has a pleasing retro effect. The tailgate is flatter than on the previous model, and there's an interesting cut-out at the bottom of the license plate section. In the new image, the Cherokee is pictured with a mountain bike and kayak on its roof - in typical Jeep style, we're sure there will be no shortage of rugged accessories. In a video seemingly inspired by Transformers, the Cherokee morphs from one generation to the next. A new profile shot shows that it bears some similarities to its predecessor, such as the square wheel arches. However, the roofline and D-pillar are more upright, possibly hinting at a greater focus on maximizing cabin space. The version seen here is finished in a vibrant blue shade with a black roof. The front fascia, as we saw previously, features a more upright design, modernized headlights, and the traditional seven-slot grille. No interior shots were shown in the new video, but we can look forward to the usual enhanced infotainment setup and better materials. Related: First Look: 2026 Jeep Cherokee Returns With Hybrid Power and Off-Road Options No technical details were provided, but it's possible that a version of the 2.0L turbo four-cylinder plug-in hybrid powertrain in the Wrangler 4xe could be used, which makes 270 hp. However, Jeep may prefer a conventional hybrid for the Cherokee to help keep the price down. As for the non-hybrid model, the 200-hp turbo-four from the Compass would be an improvement over the older 180-hp mill used in the Cherokee. We expect Jeep's teaser campaign to continue as we get closer to a full reveal of the 2026 Cherokee. Copyright 2025 The Arena Group, Inc. All Rights Reserved.

New Jeep Cherokee Looks a Lot Bigger Than Beloved XJ in Latest Teaser

The latest car news, reviews, and features. We've seen nearly every angle of the next-gen Jeep Cherokee by now, but we still don't have any solid stats or specs. It's already confirmed that the model will return later this year as a hybrid, and judging by the small batch of photos Jeep has released, it'll be pretty boxy. That's unmistakably a call back to simpler times, when the XJ Cherokee revolutionized SUVs—and no, I don't think I'm exaggerating. But as Jeep's latest teaser for the new model shows, it's going to be quite a bit bigger. The short, 36-second ad spot shows the Cherokee transforming from one generation to the next. Now, the model hasn't looked anything like the original two-door SJ for a while, but the next-gen is really its own thing. It draws from the rounded lines of the most recent Cherokee, which was discontinued in 2023, but you can see as it morphs that the new Cherokee is both taller and longer than the one it replaces. I checked the XJ's exterior dimensions for reference and found that it measured 167.5 inches from bumper to bumper, with a height of 64 inches. The last-gen KL Cherokee was larger overall, coming in at 182.9 inches long and 67.8 inches tall in Trailhawk form. Additionally, the KL's 107.1-inch wheelbase is about six inches longer than the XJ's, which was 101.4 inches. And just so we're clear, all of those XJ specs are for the four-door model since it's obviously the most direct comparison. The upcoming Cherokee looks larger in just about every way. While it's tough to tell from the video if the wheelbase extends much beyond the KL's, the overall length is unquestionably greater. The roof is taller by quite a bit, too. I won't waste anybody's time by trying to guess the new rig's exact dimensions, but I bet when the hard numbers are released later this year, the size gap to the Grand Cherokee will be significantly smaller. Nobody should act surprised that the new Cherokee is bigger than before; new car bloat has been a thing for years. But if it grows as much as it seems, it could erase some of the Cherokee's charm as a compact four-wheeler. I doubt that will be a problem to most actual customers, though, especially those in America, where bigger is so often equated with better. Got a tip or question for the author?
