Joe Allen and Liam Cullen to open new Narberth AFC pitch

Joe Allen, who grew up in Narberth, and Kilgetty's Liam Cullen will be the guests of honour at the community celebration in Narberth. The much-anticipated launch of Narberth AFC Juniors' Greenway Sports Field will take place on Friday June 13. A club spokesman said: 'The event will celebrate the hard work and dedication behind the development of this much needed community space.' Joe Allen grew up in Narberth and played his first football for Tenby AFC. (Image: John Smith/FAW) The club's youngsters and locals will be delighted to welcome Joe and Liam to the occasion, with the two footballers on hand to inspire the next generation of Pembrokeshire footballing talent. Former Liverpool and Swansea midfielder Joe Allen, 35, recently announced his retirement from professional football after making 77 appearances for Wales. He features on a giant mural in Narberth, created on the wall of the town's Farmer's Arms ahead of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Swansea City striker Liam Cullen, 26, made his senior debut for Wales in October 2023. He scored his first goals for his country with a brace in a 4-1 home win over Iceland last November in the UEFA Nations League. The duo will also be at a celebratory fundraising dinner at the Plas Hyfryd Hotel, Narberth that evening. Joe Allen and Liam Cullen to headline community celebration A NEW era for grassroots football in Narberth kicks off on Friday, 13th June, as Narberth AFC Juniors officially open their new Green Ways Sports Field – with a helping hand from Welsh internationals Joe Allen and Liam Cullen. The community is invited to join the celebrations from 4:30pm at the new pitch on Jesse Road, next to Narberth CP School, for the official opening ceremony at 5:00pm. The ceremony will also feature Ben Field, Director of Grassroots Football at the FAW. This major milestone marks the culmination of years of fundraising and dedication by volunteers determined to create a modern facility for local children and young athletes. Later that evening, the spotlight turns to The Plas, Narberth, for a special Celebratory Fundraising Dinner – an over-18s event starting at 7:30pm for 8:00pm. Clemson Tigers' seed, opponent for 2025 ACC Baseball Tournament revealed Clemson baseball closed the 2025 regular season with a 13-6 victory over the Pitt Panthers on Saturday at Charles L. Cost Field in Pittsburgh. The Tigers will head to Durham, North Carolina, for the 2025 ACC Baseball Tournament, which begins Tuesday. Clemson's opponent in the ACC Tournament at Durham Bulls Athletic Park will be one of two teams: the Stanford Cardinal or Virginia Tech Hokies. The winner of Stanford vs. Virginia Tech will face the Tigers on Wednesday at 1 p.m. ET. The game will be televised on ACC Network. Georgia Tech (39-16 overall, 19-11) is the No. 1 seed in the tournament after winning the regular season championship and finishing ahead of Florida State (37-13, 17-10) and North Carolina (39-12, 18-11) in the final conference standings. Clemson (41-15, 18-12) is the No. 5 seed after closing the regular season with a three-game sweep of Pitt. The Tigers outscored their opponents, 30-9, in the series. Sophomore right-hander Ethan Knaak threw 7 1/3 innings of no-hit ball in Thursday's series opener, and relievers Joe Allen and Lucas Mahlstedt finished off the game for the 15th no-hitter in Clemson history and first since 2009. In Saturday's finale, Jack Crighton had four hits in a 4-for-5 day at the plate that included a triple and three doubles to raise his batting average to .302 in 41 games.
