‘When will it stop?': Jewish community urges government to ‘get to work' on finding solutions

Australia and Jewish Affairs Council Joel Burnie says the Australian Jewish community has been under 'intense siege and barrage' from the wider community as the consistent attacks keep 'ripping the fabrics of Australia's social cohesion'. 'There has been a distained campaign against a very proud community that has given all that it has given to this great country of ours,' Mr Burnie told Sky News host Peta Credlin. 'There has to be an endpoint where the authorities and the government take it upon themselves, instead of listing that they've done and tried to do, it's obviously not working, so get to work on finding out the solution to the problem and fix it quickly.'

Jews fed up by ‘artificial meaningless words' from Jacinta Allan

Australia/Israel and Jewish Affairs Council Joel Burnie says Australia has gone 'crazy' and 'loopy' with the antisemitic attacks occurring. 'Nothing is more jarring to the ears of a Jewish person in this country than to hear a political leader or a leader say there is no place for antisemitism in this country,' Mr Burnie told Sky News host Peta Credlin. 'This is a formulated construct of artificial words with poor syntax that are essentially meaningless to the people that have been under consistent siege for the past 21-22 months. 'When is the immediacy of this matter going to come to the floor?'

Israel has ‘weaned off' idea of two-state solution with Palestine following Oct 7 atrocities

Australia/Israel and Jewish Affairs Council Joel Burnie says a two-state solution between Israel and Palestine cannot happen without 'deep reform of the Palestinian Authority'. 'For obvious reasons, but mainly because of Palestinian rejectionism of previous offers, plus the bloody responses that come through those offers, mainly the second intifada, and obviously October 7, the Israeli public has unfortunately been weaned off the idea that there is a partner for peace,' Mr Burnie told Sky News Senior Reporter Caroline Marcus. 'The idea of somehow recognising that the two-state solution is the ultimate aim, but that caveat is, is that it would require deep modification and the removal of the corruption of the Palestinian Authority. 'The Palestinian Authority… is currently paying the stipends of Hamas terrorists who entered Israel on October 7, there is significant change that is required within the Palestinian political society.'

‘Everyone knows who the winner and loser is': Iran Supreme Leader mocked for claiming victory

Australia/Israel and Jewish Affairs Council Joel Burnie discusses the Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei who released a video claiming victory for Iran. 'We've had control of the skies over Iran for a period of two weeks, the complete annihilation of their air force, their near complete and hopeful annihilation of their ballistic missile arsenal,' Mr Burnie told Sky News Senior Reporter Caroline Marcus. 'I think it's very fair to say that the majority of the planet that's watched this knows exactly who the winner is and indeed who the loser is.'

Albanese urged to visit Israel instead of ‘throwing mud' over Gaza war

Australia/Israel and Jewish Affairs Council's Joel Burnie discusses the continued 'one-sided criticism' from Prime Minister Anthony Albanese about Israel's war against Hamas. Israeli President Isaac Herzog has told media in Jerusalem that he wants Anthony Albanese to visit Israel to engage with the problems of the region in person. 'Essentially, what the president is saying, that if you are so concerned about what is going on here, how about you come here and you visit,' Mr Burnie said. 'Instead of throwing mud or criticising through words, how about you come here with your actions, see how things are going, see what's happening on the ground here and come up with practical solutions.'
