'Young Washington' historical epic hitting theaters Independence Day, 2026
"Young Washington," an upcoming biopic chronicling the origins of the first president of the United States, is set to release in theaters on July 4, 2026. "Set against the frontier of colonial America, this film brings to life the untold origin story of a 21-year-old George Washington—long before the Revolution, long before the Constitution—when a single mistake nearly cost him everything," the film's description says. "After triggering the start of the French and Indian War, Washington must reckon with personal failure, devastating loss, and the weight of responsibility. What emerges from the ashes isn't just a military leader—but a man forged by humility, courage, and conviction." The project is a collaboration between faith-based Angel Studios and Wonder Project and will be directed by Jon Erwin, the filmmaker behind the hit 2023 film, "Jesus Revolution," and Amazon Prime's streaming series, "House of David." Erwin said he was excited to share the story he's been waiting for over a decade to tell. "I've dreamed of telling the powerful origin story of George Washington for nearly a decade," Erwin said in a press release. "It's a story of a true pioneer, which makes it the perfect project to partner on with the pioneers at Angel and their world-class distribution network. 'Young Washington' isn't just a film—it's a celebration of the American spirit and the miracle of the forging of our nation." The historical epic's release will coincide with America's 250th anniversary. Erwin said filming will begin this summer. Jordan Harmon, president of Angel Studios, who will distribute the film, said: "Our shared commitment to inspirational, powerful storytelling made 'Young Washington' an easy project to partner on with Wonder." "George Washington helped shape our nation and so many of the American values we hold dear. I can't imagine a more meaningful way to celebrate America's 250th birthday than by watching this adaptation of such a pivotal period in his young life." Angel Studios announced that tickets are available for pre-order now.

It's official: 'House of David' season 2 will cost an extra fee on top of Prime Video
Prime Video's hit biblical series "House of David" returns for season 2 this fall, but watching it will set you back an additional $9 a month on top of your existing Amazon Prime subscription. That's because Jon Erwin, the show's creator and director of 'I Can Only Imagine," is launching a new subscription streaming channel on Prime Video called the Wonder Project, set to debut this fall. It's priced at $8.99/month and will be the exclusive home of "House of David" season 2, a co-production between Wonder Project and Amazon MGM Studios. To be clear, that $8.99 per month is an added fee on top of your monthly bill for an Amazon Prime membership. A kind of subscription-within-a-subscription, Russian nesting doll situation, if you will. After premiering on Wonder Project, "House of David" season 2 will eventually become available to watch for regular Prime Video subscribers in the U.S. and globally at an undisclosed later date. "House of David" racked up over 40 million viewers worldwide when it premiered in February. Amazon confirmed it renewed "House of David" for a second season in March, which will follow the aftermath of David's battle with Goliath and his rise to the throne. At launch, Wonder Project promises 'over 1,000 hours of highly curated movies and TV series that reflect the company's mission: to entertain the world with courageous stories, inspiring hope and restoring faith in things worth believing in," the company said in a press release. Moving forward, Erwin plans to release other originals through the service as well. Subscribers will get early access to new original films and series produced by Wonder Project. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. 'We are blown away by the success of House of David and can't wait for audiences to be swept away into the epic action and drama of season 2,' said Erwin in a press release. 'Our audience is underserved and craves a destination they can trust with exceptional originals and curated movies and TV shows. With the new Wonder Project subscription on Prime Video, we will be delivering all of that and more." It's clear that giving Wonder Project subscribers early access to one of Prime Video's biggest shows of the year is the service's biggest selling point. Whether subscribers believe that's enough to justify the added cost is another story. Especially when they know that they can hold out for its eventual wider release on Prime Video. As far as subscribers are concerned, keeping select shows behind an additional paywall is likely to be seen as frustrating at best and a cash grab at worst. Granted, Prime Video already offers plenty of channels you can subscribe to for an additional fee. But this is the first time that a program originally offered through Prime Video has moved to another paid service between seasons — and something tells me the move is not going to go over well when streaming services everywhere are seeing price hikes.

Amazon Prime Video to have Wonder Project's faith-focused channel in US this fall
Faith-based content producer Wonder Project said on Tuesday it will launch a new streaming channel on Amazon's Prime Video in the United States this fall. Studios, investors and streaming services are pouring money into faith-based programs to attract viewers with diverse content in a fiercely competitive streaming market. "This launch represents another step in our ongoing efforts to ensure Prime Video offers something for everyone," said Ryan Pirozzi, head of Prime Video Marketplace. The independent studio plans to price the service at $8.99 per month, the same as Amazon Prime Video's monthly membership cost. Founded in late 2023 by former Netflix and YouTube executive Kelly Merryman Hoogstraten and filmmaker Jon Erwin, the independent studio develops series and films focused on spirituality. Wonder Project plans to launch the service with the exclusive premiere of the second season of the biblical series "House of David," produced in partnership with Amazon MGM Studios. The first season has attracted more than 40 million viewers globally since its release, the company said. The studio's investors include faith‑focused private equity and venture capital firm Sovereign's Capital, Hollywood studio Lionsgate, United Talent Agency and film producer Jason Blum.
