Meet IndyStar sports intern Joshua Heron
IndyStar's newsroom internships are an important tradition that benefits readers, the news industry and aspiring journalists. We have nine summer interns for 2025 — students who have shown a passion for local journalism and have prior internship or student media experience. The program provides a bridge from student journalism to the professional ranks and helps the Star fill the gaps as our full-time staff take well-earned vacation time. Similarly, we're taking a break from our "Meet the Staff" feature for the summer to give you a chance to, yes, meet the interns. We also call them Pulliam fellows — in recognition of the family that used to own the newspaper and has continued to support journalism in Indianapolis — and past participants have gone on to rich careers at the Star and elsewhere in journalism. Up this week is 2025 IndyStar Pulliam fellow Joshua Heron. Sports I graduated from Howard University in 2023 with a bachelor's in journalism. I earned a master's in sports journalism from Arizona State University in 2024. My favorite part of journalism is conversing with athletes off-record. I have a passion for humanizing athletes through my work and making them relatable to readers. That starts with normal human interaction off-record. Paola Boivin, one of my professors at Arizona State, encouraged me to apply. Upon further research, I knew IndyStar would be a place where I could learn from world-class reporters, sharpen my skills and mature as a reporter. I'm on the final season of 'Lost.' It's a solid show. Give it a watch if you haven't. 'Used By You' by Hulvey. He's one of the best rappers right now, in my opinion. Columnist Greg Moore once told me, 'It might not get better.' It's a harsh truth but also a sobering one. This advice made me find peace in a difficult season. Dogs. A chill one, though. As a Jamaican, I'd have to go Bob Marley.

Caitlin Clark Sends Powerful Message Amid Indiana Fever's 'Adversity'
Caitlin Clark Sends Powerful Message Amid Indiana Fever's 'Adversity' originally appeared on Athlon Sports. It has not been a smooth sailing season for the Indiana Fever. The fact that they are currently sitting on an 8-8 record approaching the mid-way point of the campaign is a testament to this fact. Advertisement Despite their struggles, the Fever are still on the brink of their first-ever Commissioner's Cup championship. They face the defending champs, the Minnesota Lynx, on Tuesday in a single game winner-take-all matchup. The big concern for Indiana is that Caitlin Clark is questionable to play. The reigning WNBA Rookie of the Year has been out of commission in the Fever's last two games due to a groin injury, and she is now in danger of sitting out one of her team's most important games of the season. Clark, however, rallied the troops ahead of Tuesday's pivotal matchup. The 23-year-old acknowledged the challenges her team has faced thus far, which at the same time is something she believes they can use to their advantage. 'Nobody said this season was going to be perfect for us," Clark said, via Joshua Heron of IndyStar. "There's always going to be ups and downs, and I think as we get moving here through All-Star, these are the moments we're going to be able to look back on and hopefully be able to give a lot of credit to for certain situations that we were in. Just giving our group credit for being able to stick together and know that whatever is in our locker room is really all we need to go out there and win." Advertisement It has been about weathering the storm for the Fever amid Clark's injury absence. She's missed seven games this season, and Indiana has lost four of those. As Clark said, however, these types of tough situations have the potential to bring out the best in the squad. It's not going to be easy, but the former Iowa star is confident that her team has it in them to make it through. 'Honestly, I'm really proud of our group every single day; we come back with the same energy, the same attitude, and wanting to get better,' Clark said. 'Being in situations that have been tough and responding really well every single time is what we could always fall back on.'
