Dodgers pitcher comes dangerously close to scary situation

The post Dodgers pitcher comes dangerously close to scary situation appeared first on ClutchPoints. The Los Angeles Dodgers narrowly avoided a nightmare scenario Tuesday night when pitcher Justin Wrobleski came within inches of being struck in the head by a scorching line drive. During the opening game of a three-game road series against the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field, Wrobleski instinctively dodged a sharply hit ball by Jordan Beck, likely exceeding 105 mph in exit velocity, in a moment that left players, fans, and the broadcast crew holding their breath. Advertisement The MLB safety scare occurred at Coors Field, where the Dodgers bullpen injuries have already piled up this season. Wrobleski, the team's No. 10 prospect, has played a critical role in plugging the gaps in a rotation that's seen far too many setbacks. Fan-driven outlet Dodgers Nation shared the harrowing close call on X (formerly Twitter), using a SportsNet LA broadcast clip to highlight just how dangerously close the ball came to hitting the Dodgers pitcher. 'Dodgers pitcher Justin Wrobleski BARELY avoided getting hit in the head by this ball (Via @SportsNetLA)' Though there were no injuries, the speed and angle of the line drive injury threat highlight just how thin the margin is for pitchers on the mound. According to standard MLB data, a 105 mph ball reaches a pitcher in about 0.4 seconds — leaving little room for error. Reaction time becomes the difference between a routine play and potential traumatic brain injury. Advertisement The moment occurred early in a game the Dodgers eventually took control of, leading the Rockies 8-3 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning. Still, the close call served as a sobering reminder of the physical danger pitchers face with every throw. With the bullpen already thinned by injuries, losing the southpaw, even temporarily, would have dealt another tough blow to the Dodgers' depth. Based on physics estimates and similar MLB incidents, the line drive likely left the bat at 95 to 105 mph. Past cases involving Reese Olson (102 mph) and Chris Bassitt (100 mph) highlight just how dangerous these moments are for pitchers. Fortunately, Wrobleski avoided injury. But the close call served as a sobering reminder of how quickly things can take a terrifying turn on the mound. Dave Roberts Makes Statement on Dodgers' Potential Search for Starter

Dave Roberts Makes Statement on Dodgers' Potential Search for Starter originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Despite compiling a formidable assortment of arms, the Los Angeles Dodgers' pitching staff has been anything but consistent. Most of their problems can be chalked up to injuries, something the Dodgers have had no shortage of this season. This has led to many rumors that the Dodgers would indulge the idea of trading for a starter. Advertisement When asked about this possibility, Dave Roberts seemed to shrug it off. His answer was direct and concise: 'The internal options, I feel much better about,' he said as Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reported. Ardaya names Emmet Sheehan and Justin Wrobleski as standout depth pieces. In his first game back from Tommy John, Sheehan tossed four innings against the San Diego Padres, giving up one run on three hits, after which he was promptly sent down to Triple-A. In the minors this year, which includes his rehab assignment, Sheehan has given up just five earned runs in 17.1 innings (2.60 ERA). Southpaw Wrobleski hasn't seen much success, throwing a 4.91 ERA on the year. However, Wrobleski has been effective in the relief role, and his stuff has improved. Advertisement 'Wrobleski has now allowed just eight earned runs over his last five appearances, a 2.96 ERA,' Ardaya notes. 'He cleaned up his delivery, spreading his legs wider before coming set and leaning more on his back leg to generate momentum toward home plate. As a result, his velocity has ticked up, touching 99.5 mph again at Coors Field and giving himself more margin for error.' Mar 18, 2025; Bunkyo, Tokyo, JPN; Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto (18) and designated hitter Shohei Ohtani (17) stand in the dugout during the fifth inning against the Chicago Cubs during the Tokyo Series at Tokyo Dome. Darren Yamashita-Imagn Images Ardaya also discusses the struggles of Bobby Miller and Landon Knack, which have weighed on the pitching staff. However, with Blake Snell and Tyler Glasnow nearing return and the potential of getting Roki Sasaki back sometime this season, there might not be a real need to add a starter. One might also add that Ben Casparius, who is having a decent year, is also an option to start and has done so twice this year. Dodgers Option Landon Knack After Rough Pitching Outing

Dodgers Option Landon Knack After Rough Pitching Outing originally appeared on Athlon Sports. After giving up four earned runs on three homers in Thursday's outing against the New York Mets, the Los Angeles Dodgers optioned right-handed pitcher Landon Knack, the team announced on social media. Advertisement The 27-year-old Knack's earned run average of 5.12 across nine appearances is not cutting it for MLB's fifth-place team. The starting pitcher posted an ERA of 3.65 in 15 appearances last season. That is a notable drop-off in production from his first year to this point in his second year. Knack was drafted in the second round of the 2020 MLB Draft out of East Tennessee State University. In a corresponding move, the Dodgers are calling up LHP Justin Wrobleski, who has appeared in the majors in eight games in 2024 and for two games this season, with mixed results. Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Landon Knack (96) throws against the New York Mets during the first inning at Dodger Parkhurst-Imagn Images Last year, the young pitcher posted an ERA of 5.70 with 26 strikeouts and 16 walks. Advertisement Wrobleski was first called up to start against the Washington Nationals on April 8. He gave up eight earned runs in five innings and was promptly sent back down to the Oklahoma City Comets. Wrobleski had to wait more than a month before making another appearance in the Majors on May 15 against the Athletics. This time, he gave the Dodgers four scoreless innings, giving up just one hit in the game. In those two appearances, he posted eight strikeouts and three walks. The 24-year-old is now set to make his eighth career start in game one of the series against the St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium tonight. The game time is set at 8:15 p.m. ET. Game Preview 6/6/25: Dodgers Vs Cardinals

The St. Louis Cardinals enter tonight's game 34-28 and 5 games back of the Chicago Cubs who will finally have to face a real opponent for the first time in 3 weeks. Credit to them for taking care of business but they get Skubal tonight. Of course this would be looked at more positively if the Cardinals weren't facing arguably the top team in baseball in the Los Angeles Dodgers. L.A. enters tonight's game at 38-25 and pacing a tough NL West. The Cardinals coming off back-to-back series losses to the Rangers and Royals will turn to Sonny Gray to set the tone for the remainder of the homestand. With rain in the forecast there will be a good chance for a delay later in the evening. The Dodgers will send young lefty Justin Wrobleski to the mound to start who is 1-1 with an ERA of 8.00 and will likely be an opener to face off against Donovan and Nootbaar. We saw the Tigers try this same tactic against the Cardinals recently and the two lefties at the top were able to neutralize the opener once but failed the 2nd time. In his last 7 games he's 8-27 slashing .296/.367/.444 with 7 RBI. Look for Willson to get an early RBI opportunity in this game and to put together several tough at bats tonight. LAD: Shohei Ohtani - I mean, what do I really have to say? 23 HR and 39 RBI he's hitting .295 and carries a 1.037 OPS for the season! We're witnessing one of the greatest players of all time and it's scary as hell to watch him as the opposition but as a baseball fan is an enormous privilege. Look for the unicorn to do something incredible as he seems to on a nightly basis. Advertisement More from
