One person arrested after two attempted carjackings involving firearm in Brantford
One person is in custody after allegedly attempting two armed carjackings in Brantford on Friday night. Brantford Police say officers responded to a 911 call just after 9 p.m. from the area of Tecumseh Street and Strathcona Avenue, where a male allegedly brandished a firearm and attempted to steal a vehicle. They say the attempt was unsuccessful and the suspect fled on foot. Minutes later, a second 911 call came in from the area of Edward Street and Huron Street reporting a similar incident involving a male with a firearm trying to steal another vehicle. Police say the descriptions matched and officers determined both incidents were related. With the help of a K-9 unit, officers arrested a male suspect nearby a short time later. No physical injuries were reported. The investigation is ongoing, but police say there is no threat to public safety. Homeowner in Vaughan thwarts break-and-enter, several suspects in custody: police
Police say as many as six suspects are in custody following a number of break-and-enters in Vaughan on June 12, 2025. A group of suspects that was allegedly trying to break into homes and steal vehicles in Vaughan early Thursday morning was 'interrupted' by a homeowner, police say. York Regional Police began searching the area of Pine Valley Drive and Teston road, northwest of Major MacKenzie Drive and Highway 400, at approximately 4 a.m. Three suspects were taken into custody while three to four others remained outstanding. A police K-9 unit was deployed to the area as the search continued. Police said the group was thwarted by a homeowner, but did not release any additional details. As many as six suspects were taken into custody. Police said no injuries were reported and nothing was stolen. The names of the suspects have not been released. Police said there is no threat to public safety.

Man who allegedly used pipe in Coram beating brought up on felony charge
May 26—Prosecutors have charged a man accused of wielding a metal pipe in a fight in Coram earlier this month with assault with a weapon. Russell Loren Tolbert Jr., 38, of Coram, is expected to appear before Judge Paul Sullivan in Flathead County District Court on May 29 for his arraignment on the felony count. Tolbert remains in the county jail with bail set at $50,000. Flathead County Sheriff's Office deputies began searching for Tolbert after responding to a reported assault on Bear Street about 3:51 p.m., May 12, according to court documents. Responding deputies found the victim struggling to breathe and suffering from injuries to his leg and chest. Medical responders loaded him into an ambulance before he could give them a statement, court documents said. But another individual at the scene showed authorities a metal pipe and said that the victim had earlier identified Tolbert as his attacker, according to court documents. After instructing the individual to stop touching the pipe, investigators examined it and found what looked like dried blood. They also found apparent dried blood in the kitchen and living area, according to court documents. Authorities later tracked down Tolbert, who was hiding near railroad tracks, with a K9 unit, court documents said. He allegedly told them that he lived at the Bear Street home and found the victim irritating. That day marked the "last straw," he allegedly said, and the two fought. He recalled pushing the victim, who then struck him with a handsaw, according to court documents. After being hit with the tool, Tolbert allegedly said he punched the victim in the face repeatedly. But investigators reported finding no marks on Tolbert's face or hands and saw no injuries to the victim's face, according to court documents. A search of the Bear Street residence failed to turn up a handsaw, court documents said. If convicted, Tolbert faces up to 20 years in Montana State Prison and a $50,000 fine. Missing boy rescued from Massachusetts swamp by police, K9 named "Meatball"
Police officers and a K9 named Meatball helped track down a missing boy who was stuck in a Massachusetts swamp Friday night. The 7-year-old was reported missing from his Merrimac home on East Main Street just after 7:30 p.m., and that's when an "intensive search" began involving first responders from Merrimac and Amesbury, police said. Police said three officers and K9 Meatball found the boy 1.3 miles away from home "in a swampy marsh, waist-deep in water and unable to move out of the mud," authorities said. The officers were able to pull him out of the mud, and made their way out of the woods with the help of drone units. "Had this child not been located this quickly, I fear our community might have faced a tragic outcome," Merrimac Police Chief Eric Shears said in a statement. The boy was taken to a local hospital for evaluation and released, and his mother said he is doing well now. K9 Meatball helps track down missing Merrimac boy Amesbury Police Chief Craig Bailey praised the first responders and the K9 team for finding the boy quickly. "We train together for moments such as this hoping we would never need to answer this type of call," Bailey said. "Ultimately, Officer Nichols' track with K-9 Meatball and the support during the track by Officer Hewey and Officer Ryan DeVaney led to this positive outcome." K9 Meatball, who is partnered with officer Tommy Nichols, turned 5 years old in January. He joined the force in 2022 and is the offspring of Amesbury patrol K9 Achilles. Illegal hunter wounded, arrested in Kruger National Park
A 47-year-old Mozambican man was arrested for illegal hunting and trespassing in the Kruger National Park on Monday. 'T he regional ranger of the Marula North section was alerted by field rangers from the Houtboschrand area who had picked up tracks of two individuals in the park,' police spokesperson Lt-Col Jabu Ndubane said. The regional ranger dispatched the K9 unit to follow the tracks and requested helicopter support from Skukuza, with dogs on standby. 'Shortly thereafter, the K9 unit made contact with the suspects. During the encounter, one suspect was shot and wounded while the other fled the scene.' The wounded suspect was found in possession of a hunting rifle, six rounds of ammunition and an axe. The suspect was arrested and transported to hospital for medical treatment. He is now under police guard in hospital. The suspect is expected to appear in the Masoyi periodical court soon where he will face charges of illegal hunting and trespassing. TimesLIVE
