Telangana govt to submit KLIP report to Ghose panel; opposes Banakacherla project, awaits HC verdict on panchayat polls
HYDERABAD: The Telangana cabinet, chaired by chief minister A Revanth Reddy, on Monday decided to submit a comprehensive report to the Justice PC Ghose Commission probing the lapses in the execution of Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme (KLIS). The submission will include whether the project received formal cabinet approval during the previous BRS regime, the rationale for constituting a cabinet sub-committee, and the extent to which its recommendations were implemented. In other important decisions taken at the meeting, the cabinet approved the 201-km southern corridor of the Regional Ring Road, extending from Choutuppal to Sangareddy and an IIIT for Mahbubnagar. Telangana Thalli statues will be installed in every district collectorate before Dec 9. Briefing the media after the meeting at the state secretariat, revenue and housing minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, along with ministers Vakiti Srihari and Ponnam Prabhakar, said the govt would submit all requested information on KLIS by June 30. "This includes details on what then engineers-many now retired-recommended, and the basis on which the Medigadda, Annaram, and Sundilla barrages were taken up," Srinivas Reddy said. The cabinet also took a strong stand on the Banakacherla project, vowing to resist it at all costs to safeguard Telangana's share of river waters. Srinivas Reddy alleged that a 'vicious campaign' was being run to blame the Congress govt for the project, even though the foundation stone was laid during the previous BRS govt's tenure. "To set the record straight, the govt will soon give a detailed power-point presentation to all elected representatives," he said. The Telangana state cabinet on Monday vowed to safeguard Telangana's share of river waters. Telangana Revenue and housing minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy alleged that a 'vicious campaign' was being run to blame the Congress govt for the Banakacherla project, even though the foundation stone was laid during the previous BRS govt's tenure. He said the govt will soon give a detailed power-point presentation to all elected representatives. The presentation, scheduled for the first week of July, will cover how the former BRS govt 'surrendered' Telangana's rightful water share to Andhra Pradesh, steps the Congress govt has taken to halt Banakacherla, and the strategy going forward. While sources confirmed that the cabinet also deliberated on holding talks with the AP govt regarding the river water dispute, ministers remained tight-lipped on whether formal cabinet approval was given for such talks. Similarly, they refrained from confirming if the KLIS ever received cabinet sanction under the previous regime. 'All such details will be placed before the Ghose Commission,' Srinivas Reddy reiterated. On the much-delayed panchayat polls, minister Prabhakar said the Telangana high court reserved its judgment after hearing the case on Monday. 'Once the judgment is delivered, the state govt will decide on election timeline and reservations in local bodies accordingly,' he said.

Chief minister A Revanth Reddy, along with deputy chief minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and other ministers, will address farmers at the Rythu Bharosa Vijayotsavam Sabha on Tuesday near the Rajiv Gandhi statue, opposite the Telangana Secretariat. The event marks the state govt's achievement of depositing Rs 9,000 crore into the accounts of lakhs of farmers in just nine days. The Congress-led govt is organising victory celebrations across all Rythu Vedikas, villages, and mandal headquarters. On June 24, the final day of the celebrations, meetings will be held simultaneously across the state to showcase the govt's commitment to farmers and agriculture. The chief minister is expected to highlight the rollout of Rythu Bharosa and other key welfare measures from the main stage in Hyderabad. 'This is the first time in Telangana's history that Rs 9,000 crore has been credited to farmers' accounts in just nine days,' said Bhatti. 'While the previous BRS govt gave Rs 10,000 per acre per year, our govt is giving Rs 12,000 per acre annually. We are not only delivering more, but doing it faster and without discrimination,' he added. Ahead of the event, agriculture minister Tummala Nageswara Rao, chief secretary Santhi Kumari, and senior officials from various departments reviewed the arrangements. Speaking after the review, Tummala said the Congress had a legacy of supporting farmers.

Telangana cabinet to finalise reply to Ghose panel on KLIS and other key issues
HYDERABAD: The state cabinet meeting scheduled for Monday will deliberate on the information to be provided to the PC Ghose Commission, which has requested details of cabinet approvals by the previous govt for the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme (KLIS). The commission, currently investigating the sinking of piers at Medigadda and the damage to the Annaram and Sundilla barrages under KLIS, has cross-examined former chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and former ministers T Harish Rao and Eatala Rajender. Following their depositions, the commission is understood to have written to the govt seeking further details. KCR , Harish Rao, and Eatala reportedly informed the commission that the project was undertaken with cabinet approval. However, Agriculture minister Tummala Nageswara Rao, who served during the first term of the previous BRS govt, claimed that many decisions were made solely by KCR. "The chief minister's office has responded to the Ghose Commission stating that the requested information will be submitted by June 30. The matter will be discussed at the cabinet meeting on June 23," sources in the CMO said. Kaleshwaram dispute: Telangana CM Revanth Reddy says no cabinet approval since 2014; files missing, reply due June 30
Telangana CM Revanth Reddy HYDERABAD: Chief minister A Revanth Reddy on Wednesday rejected the statements of former chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, ex-irrigation minister T Harish Rao and another ex-minister Eatala Rajender (now in BJP) that the cabinet had given approvals for Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme (KLIS). The CM said the cabinet had not approved shifting of locations from Thumiddihatti to Medigadda and other important decisions. He said the Kaleshwaram project came before the cabinet only for revision of cost. "After Telangana state was formed 96 cabinet meetings were held, none of them have any documents on Kaleshwaram project approvals," the CM said during a media conference on Wednesday. KCR, Harish Rao and Rajender, during their cross-examination before the PC Ghose one-man commission, had said that cabinet sub-committee and cabinet cleared all the important decisions pertaining to the Kaleshwaram project. The CM said the one-man commission had written to the Telangana irrigation department to furnish the details by June 30. "The state govt will provide all the cabinet decisions copies to the commission by June 30," Revanth Reddy said. The papers that will be submitted to the commission will expose the ex-CM and ex-ministers, he said.

KLIS probe: PC Ghose commission seeks cabinet approval details from state govt
HYDERABAD: Justice PC Ghose commission has asked the state govt to furnish additional information pertaining to cabinet approvals for the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme (KLIS). The one-man commission, which is probing the sinking of piers at Medigadda and damages to the Annaram and Sundilla barrages under KLIS, cross-examined former chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and former ministers T Harish Rao and Eatala Rajender. Following their depositions, the commission reportedly wrote a letter to the irrigation department on June 13, requesting further details, if any. Sources said the commission sought cabinet approvals and other details after KCR, Harish Rao and Eatala stated during their cross-examination that all the decisions — including shifting of project source from Thummidihatti to Medigadda, cost revisions, approvals for Medigadda, Annaram and Sundilla barrages, and creation of Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Corporation — had cabinet approvals. The previous BRS govt had constituted a cabinetsub-committee led by former minister T Harish Rao, with Eatala Rajender and Tummala Nageshwara Rao as members. The cabinet subcommittee had reportedly recommended the decisions based on the suggestions from a high-level expert committee on the irrigation project. However, Tummala, who is currently a minister in the current Congress govt, claimed that although he was a member of the sub-committee, many issues were never discussed in the meeting and were instead approved solely by KCR. 'The commission only asked for any additional information pertaining to the project, not exactly cabinet decisions. These were provided by irrigation secretary on same day ,' sources told TOI .
