Kerala University registrar denies discrepancies in his appointment
1 2 3 4 T'puram: Kerala university registrar K S Anil Kumar has denied the allegations that his selection and appointment were against university laws and added that he was haunted by certain forces. The Save University Campaign Committee, which petitioned the state governor demanding Kumar's expulsion from the post, had raised the same demand unsuccessfully several times in the past. The university's acting vice-chancellor Mohanan Kunnummal had wondered how the syndicate could revoke Kumar's suspension. Kumar, who now acts as the state govt's face in Kerala university, said the conditions set by the university laws for the appointment of a registrar on deputation were not applicable to full-term and regular appointments, as in his case. "The registrar appointment is in accordance with Statute 12(1) of the Kerala University First Statute, 1977. A selection committee was formed on Jan 11, 2021, for the direct appointment of the registrar and a notification was issued on Jan 19. The notification stated that appointment was direct and the term was four years. An interview was conducted on Feb 22, 2021 and a rank list was prepared based on merit," Kumar said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Đây có thể là thời điểm tốt nhất để giao dịch vàng trong 5 năm qua IC Markets Tìm hiểu thêm Since the appointee is a an aided college teacher, a govt NOC was required and the govt considered this four-year appointment as a deputation to adjust service and pay conditions. Similar procedures were followed for the appointment of the controller of examinations for Kerala university and MG University and Cusat's registrar, he said. On the expiry of his term early this year, the govt reappointed him for another full term.

Government supports suspended Kerala University registrar
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A day after the suspension of Kerala University registrar K S Anil Kumar over the Bharat Mata portrait row, the state government and pro-Left Syndicate members came out in support of the official, terming the action against him as a 'misuse of authority' by Vice-Chancellor Mohanan Kunnummal. Earlier in the day, Higher Education Minister R Bindu said Anil could continue in office as only the university Syndicate has the right to take action against him. General Education Minister V Sivankutty also strongly criticised the VC, accusing him of 'acting like a goon' of the governor. Left-backed Syndicate members, teachers and employees held protests at the university in solidarity with the registrar and accused the Sangh Parivar of creating a situation similar to the days of the Emergency. The registrar came to the university premises later in the day where he was given a rousing reception by SFI workers and members of pro-Left university employees unions. The registrar, who was handed over a copy of the Constitution by the SFI workers, left the university soon after. It is reliably learnt that the registrar is likely to approach the court against his suspension. 'The prayer before the court would be to issue directions to the VC to convene the Syndicate meeting at the earliest,' said a source close to the official. Meanwhile, Digital University Vice Chancellor Ciza Thomas, who was given the additional charge of VC of Kerala University owing to Kunnummal's absence, assumed office on Thursday. She was welcomed by pro-Right wing Syndicate members and employees' organisation representatives. The pro-Right wing Syndicate members termed SFI workers entering the university in protest as a serious security lapse.

Kerala University V-C suspends registrar; on whose authority, asks minister
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The political war between the state government and the Raj Bhavan took a turn for the worse on Wednesday with the Kerala University (KU) vice-chancellor suspending Registrar K S Anil Kumar for cancelling the June 25 event, hosted by a private organisation and attended by Governor Rajendra Arlekar, for displaying the controversial image of Bharat Mata carrying a saffron flag on the dais, at the Senate Hall. V-C Mohanan Kunnummal ordered Anil Kumar's suspension two days after he submitted a preliminary report, which was critical of the registrar, to Arlekar on the incident. Higher Education Minister R Bindu and the Left-dominated Syndicate questioned the legitimacy of the V-C's order, while Anil Kumar said he would take legal recourse. Mohanan suspended the registrar by invoking Section 10 (13) of the Kerala University Act that empowers the V-C to act on behalf of the Syndicate in urgent situations when the apex body is not in session. In the suspension order, the V-C said disciplinary action was being taken against the registrar for his acts which were 'prejudicial to the interests of the university'. P Harikumar, joint registrar (administration) has been given temporary charge of registrar. 'The official has been suspended after it was found that he has shown disrespect to the governor and taken unilateral decisions by bowing to external pressure,' the V-C said, adding the mater would be reported in the next Syndicate meeting. 'The Syndicate has been entrusted with conducting a detailed inquiry,' he said.

Bharat Mata row: KU registrar suspended for ‘insulting' governor
Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala University vice-chancellor Mohanan Kunnummal on Wednesday suspended registrar K S Anil Kumar for allegedly insulting the governor, who is also the university's chancellor. The suspension led to a major showdown between the governor Rajendra Arlekar and state govt. Higher education minister R Bindu opposed the vice-chancellor, alleging that he had no authority to suspend the registrar. She alleged that the VC was acting under the influence of Sangh Parivar forces. University syndicate members also opposed the VC's action. Meanwhile, the registrar made it clear that he would legally challenge the order. The registrar had cancelled an event held at the Senate Hall, where governor was the chief guest, because the organisers displayed the picture of Bharat Mata on stage. The registrar alleged that it was against the guidelines issued for using the hall for functions. However, the VC in his order stated, "K S Anil Kumar decided to cancel the sanction orders issued to Sree Padmanabha Seva Samithi for using the university Senate Hall after the programme commenced and when the governor was on the stage." The image of Bharat Mata with a saffron flag displayed at a book release event organised by Sree Padmanabha Seva Samiti at the Senate Hall became controversial. Even though the registrar cancelled the permission for the event, it went ahead in the governor's presence. Subsequently, the registrar filed a complaint with the DGP, stating that it was illegal and action should be taken. The registrar had cancelled the permission, pointing out that displaying the image at an RSS-affiliated organisation's event was a violation of regulations. The registrar maintained that displaying the image was against university rules. The governor attended the event amidst widespread protests by SFI workers. However, the VC's report at the request of Raj Bhavan contains severe criticisms of the registrar. The accusation is that the approval was revoked due to external pressures, including from syndicate members. The registrar is also accused of showing disrespect to the governor.
