Survey of land for Sabarimala airport begins
The Revenue department has commenced a manual land survey for acquiring the land for the proposed Sabarimala Greenfield International airport in Erumely across the villages of Erumely South and Manimala. Officials said the first phase of the survey will focus on marking the boundaries as per the sketch prepared during a digital survey conducted earlier. Once this boundary marking is completed, each parcel of land slated for acquisition will be clearly demarcated according to its designated survey number. Alongside, the boundary-setting process for the runway has commenced at Charuveli in the Manimala grama panchayat. The demarcation process will subsequently extend to the Cheruvally estate and the populated areas of Erumely South village. Within four months After verifying the boundaries of the identified land, officials will prepare subdivision documents for each landowner involved in the project. If the weather is favourable, the survey process will be completed within four months, they added. The survey team is led by district surveyor Sreelekha, accompanied by five surveyors on contract. The government is likely to appoint two additional surveyors to assist with the project. While the government had proposed establishing a dedicated office in Kanjirappally to facilitate the land acquisition process, a final decision on this matter is still pending. As per the government order issued in accordance with the provisions of sub-section (1) of Section 11 of the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, a total of 1,001.873 hectares (2,475.68 acres) is required to be acquired for the project in Erumely South and Manimala villages. However, the precise extent of land to be acquired for the project will only be determined, along with its survey numbers, upon completion of the physical survey process. Primary assessment As per the primary assessment, in addition to the 2,263-acre Cheruvally estate, an additional area of 307 acres located outside the estate will also need to be acquired for the project. STUP Consultants Ltd, appointed by the Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation (KSIDC), is in the process of preparing the detailed project report (DPR) for the project. Once the DPR is completed and submitted to the KSIDC, it will be forwarded to the Union Ministry of Civil Aviation for further review.

KSWIFT to aid MSMEs to manage professional tax issues
The Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation (KSIDC) has put in place a system to help Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the State to manage professional tax issues through the Kerala Single Window Interface for Fast and Transparent Clearance (KSWIFT). The system would help small traders avoid physical visits to government offices for purposes related to professional tax. MSMEs can apply for registration through the KSWIFT website set up as part of the government's initiatives to improve Ease of Doing Business. The enterprises can submit the necessary licences and certificates to manage professional tax registration and processes related to it. With this, small business owners will not need to handle cumbersome paper work or make personal appearances at the respective local body offices. Single online system KSWIFT was introduced to make setting up and operating businesses easier, by offering a variety of services to businesses, particularly MSMEs, by quick facilitation of government approvals. It facilitates entrepreneurs to apply for all necessary approvals from different government departments through a single online system, eliminating procedural delays and significantly speeding up the approval process. Under the Industries department's Year of Enterprises initiative launched in 2022-23, around 3.5 lakh MSMEs have been started, generating 7 lakh jobs. Quite a few of the new entrepreneurs are unaware of the processes and paperwork involved in running businesses, making the KSWIFT initiative a much-needed one for many.

MSMEs can now pay professional tax via KSWIFT
Thiruvananthapuram: Micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the state can now register for professional tax through the single-window online platform KSWIFT, launched by the Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation (KSIDC). This new feature eliminates the need for multiple physical visits and simplifies the process, said industries minister P Rajeev. By uploading the required licences and certificates, businesses can now apply for and manage professional tax registration entirely online. This move allows entrepreneurs to focus on running their businesses while avoiding cumbersome paperwork and personal appearances before local authorities. Professional tax is levied by local bodies—municipalities, corporations, and panchayats—on employees, professionals and businesses, and is a mandatory compliance requirement for MSMEs. The Kerala Single Window Interface for Fast and Transparent Clearance (KSWIFT) was developed as part of the state's broader effort to enhance ease of doing business. KSWIFT offers a streamlined interface where entrepreneurs can apply for all necessary approvals from various govt departments in one place. This reduces procedural delays and significantly speeds up the approval process for business operations. Kerala witnessed a surge in MSME registrations following the launch of the 'Year of Enterprises' initiative in 2023. So far, around 3.5 lakh new ventures have been registered in the state. The minister attributed this growth to proactive ease of doing business measures and procedural reforms introduced by the government. "Of the new entrepreneurs, 31% are women-led, and 4% each belong to SC and ST communities. More than 50% come from OBC categories, and even the transgender community has benefited from the scheme," Rajeeve said. He added that enabling professional tax payments via the KSWIFT portal will further support and accelerate this inclusive growth. Follow more information on Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad here .
