‘Sexy Kaam Kam kiya karo….' Shefali Jariwala's iconic Kaanta Laga song was disliked by THIS actor, he even scolded the directors, called them…, his name is…

Actress and model Shefali Jariwala passed away on June 27 in Mumbai at 42, reportedly due to cardiac arrest. She was rushed to Mumbai's Multispecialty hospital by her husband, Parag Tyagi, and was declared dead upon arrival. Her sudden demise came across as a huge shock for everyone in the entertainment industry, along with her fans and admirers. Shefali was best remembered for her iconic remix song, Kaanta Laga (2002) . She became an overnight sensation after the release, and created quite a stir with her bold party girl appearance in the song. However, did you know Bollywood superstar Salman Khan disliked the song when he first heard it? Yes you read that right! Why Salman Khan got angry over Kaanta Laga? In a conversation with Hindi Rush, the music video directors Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru revealed that not everyone welcomed the song's bold and rebellious visuals, including Salman Khan. They said that he was angry with the remix and even scolded them. Vinay recounted, 'A big actor called us to his house, and he told us, 'Main tumhe samjha raha hoon Radhika Vinay, yeh jo sexy kaam hai kam kiya karo, acha nahi hota (I'm trying to make you understand, don't do such sexy songs, it doesn't look good)'. He just said, 'You've got nice, pure minds'.' The actor in question was none other than Salman Khan, as revealed. How Salman Khan became the inspiration behind the Kaanta Laga song? Interestingly, the duo explained that Salman Kahn was a sort of inspiration behind the song. 'We were doing cute and innocent songs with Falguni Pathak. We were doing songs with Jagjit Singh and Pankaj Udhas. As creative people, we wanted to evolve… One day, we went to Salman Khan's house. He was exercising while listening to a Jhankaar Beats remix of a Kishore Kumar song. An idea sparked, and that's what began the remix trend in India. We made 'Kaliyon Ka Chaman', 'Kaanta Laga', 'Chadti Jawani'… The sound organically reminds you of a nightclub, to a sensual visualisation.' Radhika and Vinay shared. Shefali garnered instant popularity among the youth following the release of Kaanta Laga. Her mesmerising beauty and peppy dance moves soared her career to new heights. After her rise to fame, she even ventured into the Hindi film industry, and appeared alongside superstars like Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar and Priyanka Chopra in the 2004 romantic comedy Mujhse Shaadi Karogi. She later went on to work with Salman Khan again when she participated in Bigg Boss 13 as a contestant.

When Salman Khan warned the makers of Shefali Jariwala's ‘Kaanta Laga': ‘Yeh sexy kaam kam karo…'

At a time when item numbers were still taboo for many Bollywood actors, Shefali Jariwala carved her own identity with 'Kaanta Laga'. Decades later, she's still known as the 'Kaanta Laga girl'. And now, tragically, with Shefali gone, it feels like we've lost a piece of the 2000s, a time when remix videos changed the face of Indian pop culture. An old video of Shefali has resurfaced, where she talks about never getting tired of the tag. In the clip, the host asks her, 'Aapko sab Kaanta Laga girl, Kaanta Laga girl bolte hai. Aap thak nahi gaye ho isse? (Everyone keeps calling you the Kaanta Laga girl, aren't you tired of it?)' Shefali shoots back, 'Sawal hi nahi hai,' and adds with full confidence, 'There can only be one Kaanta Laga girl in the world, and that is me. I love it and I want to be known as the Kaanta Laga girl till the day I die.' Also Read | Actor Shefali Jariwala passes away at 42 The remix version of 'Kaanta Laga', originally from the 1972 film Samadhi, featured Dharmendra and Asha Parekh. Sung by Lata Mangeshkar and composed by RD Burman, the song already had a legacy. But when the remix dropped in 2002, it shook the country so much that the censor board summoned the makers, accusing them of shaking the 'moral fibre' of the nation. Notably, not everyone back then was happy about the song's rebellious and bold visuals, including superstar Salman Khan. Surprisingly, just a month before Shefali Jariwala's passing, the video's directors, Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru, recalled the time when the Dabangg actor had personally warned them about it. In a conversation with Hindi Rush, the makers revealed how Salman told them, 'Main tumhe samjha raha hoon, yeh sexy kaam kam karo, achha nahi hota (I'm telling you—cut down on these sexy songs, it's not good). You have such pure minds, don't waste them on this stuff.' At the time of its release, 'Kaanta Laga' had caused an instant backlash. Before this, Radhika and Vinay had done videos with artistes like Falguni Pathak, Jagjit Singh, and Pankaj Udhas, still poppy in beats and disco-themed but in a more 'clean' format. But post-'Kaanta Laga', the scene changed, and Indian cinema got a flood of bold remixes like 'Kaliyon Ka Chaman' and 'Chadti Jawani'. But what's more ironic is that the remix idea itself came from Salman only. The directors recalled that they were once at his house when he was working out, listening to the Jhankaar Beats Kishore Kumar remix. That moment sparked the idea of doing something similar. Despite all the outrage, 'Kaanta Laga' made Shefali Jariwala a pop culture icon. She later went on to appear in Bigg Boss 13, hosted by the same Salman Khan who had once asked the makers to tone it down. Salman Khan once warned Kaanta Laga makers about Shefali Jariwala's bold video: ‘Stop doing sexy songs, it's not good'

In the wake of Shefali Jariwala's untimely death at the age of 42 due to cardiac arrest, tributes are pouring in from fans and industry veterans alike. Fondly remembered as the Kaanta Laga girl, Shefali became a household name with the 2002 remix video that redefined the Indian music video landscape. However, not everyone welcomed the song's bold and rebellious visuals back then, including superstar Salman Khan . In a recent interview with Hindi Rush, recorded just months before Shefali's passing, the music video's directors Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru shared how Kaanta Laga created a national uproar, leading even Salman Khan to intervene. 'A big actor called us to his house and said, 'Main tumhe samjha raha hoon Radhika Vinay, yeh jo sexy kaam hai kam kiya karo, acha nahi hota (I'm explaining to you—stop doing such sexy songs, it's not good). You have nice, pure minds.'' The actor in question, they later revealed, was none other than Salman Khan. A remix that 'disturbed the moral fibre of the nation' Radhika and Vinay recalled being summoned by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) soon after the song's release. 'We got a call from the censor board saying, 'You have disturbed the moral fibre of the nation,'' they said. Interestingly, the inspiration for Kaanta Laga came from Salman himself. 'One day, we went to Salman Khan's house. He was working out while listening to a Jhankaar Beats remix of a Kishore Kumar song. That sparked the idea for a new kind of music video,' Vinay shared. The result was a bold departure from their earlier, more traditional music videos for Falguni Pathak, Jagjit Singh, and Pankaj Udhas. What followed was a new wave of remixes like Kaliyon Ka Chaman and Chadti Jawani, complete with sensual styling and edgy storytelling. 'Kaanta Laga girl' aka Shefali Jariwala reveals why she didn't work much after her initial success, actress says she suffered from epilepsy seizures The scandal behind the style Radhika revealed that the video's rebellious vibe was rooted in personal anecdotes. 'I went to a girls' school. One of my friends refused to get a stamp on her hand at a club—she asked for it on her neck instead. That scene made it into the video. The porn magazine? I was once caught reading one in school—so we used that too.' Vinay added, 'Even I didn't know there were adult magazines for women with male models. Our assistants scouted all over Mumbai and found one on Hill Road in Bandra.' They also clarified that the much-talked-about thong worn by Shefali was simply a fashion choice. 'We didn't realise we were disturbing the 'moral fibre' of the country,' Vinay said, ironically referencing the CBFC's words. From scandal to screen legend Shefali Jariwala, who played the fierce, club-going rebel in the video, later went on to participate in Bigg Boss 13, ironically hosted by Salman Khan himself. Despite the controversy that surrounded Kaanta Laga, the song made Shefali an icon of early 2000s pop culture. In an interview recorded just 10 months before her passing, Shefali had said, 'There can be only one Kaanta Laga girl in the whole world, and that is me. I love it. I want to be known as the Kaanta Laga girl till the day I die.'

Disapproving Salman Khan scolded Kaanta Laga directors for scandalous song: ‘Sexy kaam hai kam kiya karo'

Filmmakers Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru recently spilled the beans about how their Kaanta Laga video, which starred Shefali Zariwala wearing a thong and adult content, created quite a stir back then. (Also read: 'He's 60! Let him be chubby': Fans defend Salman Khan amid online body-shaming) The filmmaker duo in an interview with Hindi Rush, disclosed how they received backlash from Central Board of Film Certification stating that they have disturbed the moral fibre of the nation after that video came out. They further added how Salman Khan also called them to stop doing such "sexy" videos. Vinay in the interview said, "A big actor called us to his house, and he told us, 'Main tumhe samjha raha hoon Radhika-Vinay, yeh jo sexy kaam hai kam kiya karo, acha nahi hota (I'm trying to make you understand, don't do such sexy songs, it doesn't look good)'. He just said, 'You've got nice, pure minds'." When asked who it was, they named Salman Khan. The filmmakers said that back then, they had hit a creative road block while doing only cute videos and thought of branching out which resulted in their remix era. 'We were doing cute and innocent songs with Falguni Pathak. We were doing songs with ghazals with Jagjit Singh and Pankaj Udhas. As creative people, musically we needed some change. One day, we went to Salman Khan's house. He was exercising while listening to a Jhankaar Beats remix of a Kishore Kumar song. An idea sparked, and that's what began the remix trend in India. We made Kaliyon Ka Chaman, Kaanta Laga, Chadti Jawani… The sound organically reminds you of a nightclub, to a sensual visualisation,' Vinay said. After the success of their Sanam Teri Kasam re-release in theatres, the director duo are planning to make a sequel to the film. While they are certain to bring back Harshvardhan Rane from the original cast, they have categorically denied to cast Pakistani actor Mawra Hocane due to ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan.

Salman Khan Didn't Like Kaanta Laga Remix: " Yeh Sexy Kaam Acha Nahi Hota"

New Delhi: Back in the 90s, the video of the Kaanta Laga remix - featuring Shefali Jariwala - caused an uproar in the world of pop culture. Shefali Jariwala, as a bold party girl, watching adult content didn't sit well with the Censor Board and eventually the directors Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru received a warning from the board. In a recent interview, the director duo recalled the backlash and revealed Salman Khan didn't approve of the song as well. Vinay recalled, "A big actor called us to his house, and he told us, 'Main tumhe samjha raha hoon Radhika Vinay, yeh jo sexy kaam hai kam kiya karo, acha nahi hota (I'm trying to make you understand, don't do such sexy songs, it doesn't look good)'. He just said, 'You've got nice, pure minds'." Asked to reveal the name of the big star, they named Salman Khan. Ironically, the director duo came up with the idea of making such video when they saw Salman Khan listening to a Jhankaar Beats remix of a Kishore Kumar song while working out. They continued, "One day, we went to Salman Khan's house. He was exercising while listening to a Jhankaar Beats remix of a Kishor Kumar song. An idea sparked, and that's what began the remix trend in India. We made Kaliyon Ka Chaman, Kaanta Laga, Chadti Jawani... The sound organically reminds you of a nightclub, to a sensual visualisation." The music of Kaanta Laga was composed by R. D. Burman. It was from the film titled Samadhi featuring Dharmendra, Jaya Bachchan and Asha Parekh. The song was remixed by T-Series album DJ Doll with an accompanying music video featuring Shefali Jariwala. Shefali became an overnight sensation with the video.
